Thank you for using Windows 10.
I suggest you to uninstall and re-install the fingerprint drivers in compatibility mode and check. Here is the steps:
- Go to your manufacturer’s website and download the Driver’s setup file for your computer.
- Press Windows Key + R on your desktop screen to go to run box.
- Type devmgmt.msc and hit Enter.
- Under Driver, expand, then right click and select Uninstall.
- If you are prompted to Confirm then Confirm.
- Go to the location where you had saved your downloaded setup files of the drivers and right click, then select Properties.
- Select Compatibility Tab.
- Place a check mark next to Run this program in Compatibility mode and select the operating system accordingly from the drop down list.
- Let the driver to install and then check the functionality.
Keep us informed about the status of the issue and let us know if you need further assistance and we’ll be happy to help you.

Thank you Navneet Anand! Although all of what you have suggested was tried by me earlier. Everything like deleting, reinstalling, picking up driver, compatibility and rest but it didn’t work. Just want to clarify, initially I upgraded windows 7 professional to windows 10 pro after that I did refresh this PC. Still Microsoft or HP driver was not working. Few days back I had to do clean install of Windows 10 from USB (sorry for mistake in question) and after installing all necessary windows updates along with fingerprint driver provided by Microsoft, it is working like a charm! I could use Windows Hello feature now.
Although I am not sure why it didn’t work earlier? Is it because windows 10 still does not handle driver installations properly, I am not sure. Anyway thanks for looking into this.

Ryuzai_L, when you say you did a clean install, do you mean to a fully formatted drive starting from the ground up? I had the same problem and also rolled back to Windows 7 in order to get my fingerprint reader to work.

CyclingSmiths , let me elaborate what I did-
- I have two partitions on hard drive, one is system drive C, another is for all other stuff.
- I upgraded to win 10.
- As having traces of windows 7 in windows 10 after upgrade, it made my system slow and buggy, I am not sure why.
- tried all the options to install and make fingerprint reader work with windows hello but nothing worked. Believe me, I am very much into computers and could not make it work.
- So I used—> settings—> update and security —> Recovery —> Reset this PC
- Again I tried making fingerprint work but failed.
- Finally made a bootable USB and formatted and installed Windows 10 pro again on my system drive C. I did not format whole hard drive just system drive.
And after necessary windows updates fingerprint reader started working the way it should! I have not tried installing any HP driver for fingerprint reader afterwards. I do not want to take any chances, you see! One thing peculiar I noticed about windows 10 is your hardware works fine if you install it clean not just upgrade and let Microsoft decide drivers through windows update. Just to make sure, I observed same thing worked on DV6-3043TX!
Hope this helps!

Hello world!
validity fingerprint sensor (wbf) vfs301 works fine in this bunch of hplite32_build_ 6.0.100.252 + http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp56501-57000/sp56957.exe (driver version 4.3.304.0 under vindovs7) but when http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp58501-59000/sp58900.exe (driver version 4.4.234.00 under vindovs8) get code 10 device cannot be started.
both versions in the archive have a folder containing the driver for my wbf_301_drv equipment, with the sp58900.exe package (driver version 4.4.234.00) even sets a new validity wbf ddk, but the driver version 4.4.234.00 does not want to work.
When you put the http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp56501-57000/sp56957.exe driver (version 4.3.304.0 driver), the runs even with the software of the validity of a new version of the ddk wbf 4.4.234.00, a young driver and later software.
experts, please what could be the difference of these packages sp56957.exe and sp58900.exe for the driver (wbf) vfs301.
operating system Windows 8 x 64, laptop hp pavilion dv7-3133er, Eid problematic equipment usb\vid_138a & pid_0005
Thanks in advance for the help.

From what im seeing HERE HP has no drivers for windows 8 on this model.
Looks to me this notebook isn’t supported yet.
You can go HERE and find out if they’re testing the notebook or not.
Also, THIS might help you out trying to upgrade to 8.
Now to answer your question about the drivers.
Looks like 1 drivers is for windows 7 and the other is for 8.
For the windows 8 drivers, like i said above they haven’t been released so where ever these drivers came from this could be giving you the issue.
Until the drivers are available on the HP website i would stick with the drivers that are working for you.

All this is interesting, but .
if (wbf) vfs301, it is in Africa (wbf) vfs301 and equipment is primarily supports the developer.
An older version of the driver (but newer than the ones on the support page of my notebook) (wbf) vfs301 works fine, no new works.
And the fact that HP offers on a page of my device, the driver 2010 model year, and this time it’s not true.
It is a pity that HP does not care about the continued support of its products and does not support in the future and therefore have to look for the driver in direct developers, such as intel, NVIDIA, Realtek, and others.
And thank God that the developers of equipment and support equipment issued to its OEM partners.
And now I have a perfectly working windose 8 x64 and all the equipment, but so far HP has not tested a lot of laptops with the new OS, shame
Even tell there is a hardware ID USB \ VID_138A & PID_0005 & REV_0 Even tell there is a hardware ID USB \ VID_138A & PID_0005 & REV_0 Your answer is fine, but seems to have to seek support from the hardware manufacturer.

You can use the Valdity Sensor for your system that is rated for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1
You cannot use the old AuthenTec Series 6 (any version 6.x) of the HP SimplePass program with Windows 10.
If you want to continue to use HP SimplePass, you must switch to the Softex HP SimplePass program.
At writing, the latest (new) version is:
- Series 8 (any version 8.x) of HP SimplePass is NOT an update to Series 6 HP SimplePass
- The programs are not compatible and cannot be on the computer at the same time
- There is no conversion program for the Export .tsd file to the Vault .opi (website / passwords backup)
Remember that Windows 10 fingerprint logon requires a PIN number.
Windows 10 > Settings > Account > Sign-in Options > PIN number >> PIN assignment is mandatory
- Windows Hello and the Windows fingerprint logon

Validity Sensor (VFS301) not working dm4 notebook

Just purchased a Pavilion dm4 notebook that came with the Validity Fingerpring scanner. As soon as I bought the laptop, I was quick to install Windows 7 Pro 64 bit as my work requires the extra features in Win 7 Pro. The stock OS that was pre-installed was Win 7 Home Prem.
So here is my issue, the fingerpring scanner wont work. I have the proper driver installed from hp’s website (found here) and after rebooting, it still does not work. I have installed the hp Support application that scans my notebook for the latest drivers and found no updates needed. I have not tried rolling back the driver as the option is not available (only one driver was ever installed anyways) and I have also tried uninstalling the driver, rebooting, reinstalling the driver, rebooting, and it still will not work. I have also tried doing the same just previously mention but this time running the installation as an admin (right click, «run as administrator»). Still nothing. I also tried navigating to the driver folder on C:\ and then runing the application as an admin, but still come up short handed.
Sometimes the light will come on like its working, but when I go to use it to enroll my fingerprint it just won’t do anything.
Is there another piece of software besides the drvier that I need to install to get this work?

Hello, i am trying to get my Biometric Validity Sensor to work, but i can’t find drivers/software anywhere for my device/windows version.
Is there any way how you can help me?
In device manager the Sensor driver is the default one by Validity, dated 9/12/2013.
General tab, «This device is working properly»
Details tab, » Validity Sensor (VFS471)
Events tab, «Device USB\VID_138A&PID_003C\00b0b6f80589 requires further installation.»

For some reason the validity fingerprint sensor drivers are gone from every 6x60b, and 8x60p/w support page.
I was able to find a driver online that should work for you.
Please see this discussion for the solution.

You can’t use the ProtectTools software on W10.
Uninstall it, restart the PC and use the HP Client Security Manager software for W10, which superceded the HP ProtectTools security software.
HP Client Security Manager provides enhanced Windows login and website single-sign-on capabilities. Security Manager is also the host for HP Client Security plugins, and therefore should be installed before other Client Security modules. This package is provided for supported models running a supported operating system.

I am running Windows 10 64-bit on the HP ProBook 6460b. I followed instructions to install a different driver for the VFS471 fingerprint scanner. As soon as I did, windows hello immediately started working. Note, I did not have to uninstall the old driver or remove the device from Device Manager. Simply performed «update new driver» and directed Windows to the «wbf_vfs_003c.inf» file. Worked like a charm.
See the last post on the link below:
Today I had the exact same experience on Windows 8.1 64-bit with an HP EliteBook 8460p (VFS471 sensor, VID_138A&PID_003C&REV_0086). After that I tried it with v.4.4.232.0 and this version seems to work OOTB. It’s no more necessary to uncheck «allow the computer to turn off this device to save power». I hope the following solution also works with Windows 10.
