Ahh but when I left clicked on it I got an error that xed could not identify the coding.
so I did a bit of a search and found I need to make the file executable
So I used this to fix the problem
chmod +x gog_the_witcher_2_assassins_of_kings_enhanced_edition_2.2.0.8.sh
and then finally this to run it.
It is installing now and I assume that is going to take a bit of time since it took me over 3 1/2 hours to download the file. (satellite is a solution to living in the middle of no where just not a fast one — I so miss my fiber optic connection)
I looked and didnt see how to give you a + vote or thumbs up but you deserve both for taking the time to help me out. I included what I did in case someone else runs into some type of problem in the future and needs the same type of help.
Oh and I am running Mint Linux 18 I dont know why yours reacted different but not matter your help was most excellent.
Thank You so very much once more.
Edit: I kept looking and did find the rating button. You got your plus. Dont know it that helps you somehow but at least it is some type of acknowledgement.
Glad to hear you got it sorted out 🙂 And thanks for the +. Not sure what it actually does, apart from if many people give the same post +, it will eventually show up with a tiny + in the thread. Maybe it increases the Rep count as well, no idea.
I’m playing through the game a 2nd time now, on Linux, and it’s really good (apart from some stupidly hard boss fights, which you will get to in due time). Delve into it, do side quests as well, and you’ll have a great time.
I’m on Linux Mint 17.1 btw. Haven’t bothered to upgrade to 17.3 because everything works and I’m worried something will break. And I heard that to use 18 it was best to make a fresh install, because there are so many changes between the 17.x and 18.x code base. Upgrading can work, but it’s not really recommended from what I read. Mint is an excellent version of Linux though, and I’m so glad I found it and could finally toss off the Microsoft shackles (2-3 years ago now).
I have come across references that Mint 18 did have some problems vs Mint 18. Not sure of all the problems but no matter it is what I have and intend to make it work.
My only problem with the game so far is the lag/low fps. I am sure there are some tweaks I need to do just havent done them as yet. Have turned down the graphics to the basement level but still lag. I must say though that the graphics are still a step above anything else I have ever played with the graphics all turned off or at bare minimum.
I am too am finally glad to be away from MS at last. Games were the only reason I kept it. They just kept getting more and more aggressive over the years. Now if I could only get Warframe to work on Linux I would be a happy man and never look back.
Hello im having issues trying to install this.
Im on:
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS
Release: 14.04
Codename: trusty
i have downloaded the game with lgogdownloader and it seems to have been downloaded ok since status report says its ok, is this the hash I should be seeing? 3fff5123677a7be2023ecdb6af3b82b6
Installations seems fails when I reach file «witcher2.vpfs» and its at 96% and it says «fatal error — file creation error» or sometimes instead of that file it says metadata and mojosetup
I have installed all the packages specified in this thread and on the store page
What can I do??
Hello everyone, I am running with the same problem again and again, to the point where I’m close to just try to run it with wine or playonlinux, or just download the damn windows version and run it like so. Every time I run my sh, or the icon on my desktop, I get really hopeful with a launcher, that shows me:
Launch the game,
Options
Register game.
I launch the game and then I get something that states that it failed to start due to the some dependancy problems. I am running on ubuntu 14.04.06, 64bits, no longer LTS. I have tried to download all the libraries that I’ve read are necessary, most don’t download or something happens. Dear community, please help me travel with the white wolf and the damn Elven prince. (saw the movie on youtube)
Your md5sum matches mine that installed and plays correctly. I would contact GOG support to get help from them directly. Perhaps you have faulty RAM or Ubuntu is corrupted.
Open a terminal and run the following commands. Each command separated by a blank line. The ‘sudo’ command gives it root, or administrator privilege so it will ask for your administrator password. If you can’t use sudo, try ‘su’ without the quotes, press enter, and then enter the root password. This switches to root privilege for the terminal. Then enter each command minus the sudo command.
sudo dpkg —add-architecture i386
sudo apt update
sudo apt install libc6:i386 libasound2:i386 libasound2-data:i386 libasound2-plugins:i386 libgtk2.0-0:i386 libsdl2-2.0-0:i386 libsdl2-image-2.0-0:i386 libfreetype6:i386 libcurl3:i386
Some of these libraries were already installed, so don’t be surprised if only a few install.
It should run after this. Mine runs beautifully.
What tripped me up is that you have to add the 32 bit architecture, which is the first command. And then I typically do this sort of things through Synaptic Package Manager. What I found out is that Synaptic does NOT show all the :i386 files you need. You have to do this through the terminal commands to install the dependencies.
Then to install the game from the terminal again:
Game-install-file-name is the name of your downloaded game file.
Pangaea666: If you have downloaded the Linux version of the game, then you can install it using the big-ass .sh file you downloaded. You don’t have to do it with PlayOnLinux. That is for getting Windows versions to work on Linux.
Just be sure you have the needed dependencies, which are listed on the game’s info page here on GOG.
Requires the following packages: libc6:i386 libasound2:i386 libasound2-data:i386 libasound2-plugins:i386 libgtk2.0-0:i386 libsdl2-2.0-0:i386 libsdl2-image-2.0-0:i386 libfreetype6:i386 libcurl3:i386 and dependencies.
You can install these by opening the Terminal and typing
sudo apt-get install libc6:i386 libasound2:i386 libasound2-data:i386 libasound2-plugins:i386 libgtk2.0-0:i386 libsdl2-2.0-0:i386 libsdl2-image-2.0-0:i386 libfreetype6:i386 libcurl3:i386
then type in your password when prompted (sudo is kind of god mode on linux). If you run into problems doing this, let us know, and it may be possible to solve. The .sh file should be possible to run though. Maybe you need to right-click on it and mark it as an executable? Depends on what Linux distro you are on, I suppose. I’m on Linux Mint, and can run these .sh files without any hickups. Typically I get a popup box asking if I want to Run in, or Run it in Terminal. Both essentially do the same.
Hi. I’m not an expert with Linux, but this issue looks similar to what I had when installing Witcher 2. Maybe this thread will be of use to you: https://www.gog.com/forum/the_witcher_2/problems_installing_on_linux
As mentioned in there, what got it working for me was to enable level 4 updates in the update manager, and installing mesa , and then the dependencies. The game worked brilliantly after that, and I’ve completed it twice. Excellent game btw.
edit: fixed this with installing everything except libcurl3:i386, and then running
sudo ln -s /home/steam/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/amd64/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libcurl-gnutls.so.4 /lib/i386-linux-gnu/
I’m having some problems installing the dependencies. I added the i386 arch, but apt installing them I get this:
The following packages will be REMOVED:
curl feh libcurl4 libcurl4-openssl-dev libxmlrpc-core-c3 playonlinux rtorrent steam-launcher
obviously I wouldn’t want to do that.. How to fix?
