You can install or upgrade VMware Tools on a macOS virtual machine using an installer assistant.
If you use VMware Fusion or ESXi on a computer with an Apple label, you can create Mac OS X Server (10.5 or later) virtual machines and install VMware Tools.
Prerequisites
- Power on the virtual machine.
- Verify that the guest operating system is running.
Procedure
- Select the menu command to mount and open the VMware Tools virtual disc on the guest operating system.

You need to install VMware Tools to get more performance from the virtual machines you installed on VMware Workstation, to use the VM in full-screen mode, and to exchange files between the VM and the physical computer by dragging and dropping.
If you want to install Guest Tools for Mojave running on VMware, you can do so by clicking Install VM Tools / Install VM Tools from the VMware menu. However, it is recommended that you build VMware Tools using the Darwin.iso file downloaded with VMware Unlocker , which is used to run MacOS systems on VMware.
It is the ideal way to install VMware Tools using the darwin.iso file on the VM.

How to Build VMware Tools on macOS Mojave Virtual Machine
After you setup macOS Mojave with VM Workstation, you will need the darwin.iso file to install VM Tools. You can find the Darwin.iso file in the Unlocker 2.1.1 folder. If you want to download the VMware Tools file for macOS Mojave directly to your computer, click the button below.
Follow the steps below to setup Guest Software on Mojave.
Step 1
In the image below you can see that VM Tools is not installed. You can set the screen resolution of the VM automatically by clicking View / Fit Guest Now.
Step 2
Right-click on the CD/DVD of the macOS virtual machine, and then click Settings.
Step 3
In the VM Settings window, select the CD/DVD (SATA) option and then the Use ISO image file option on the right, then click the Browse button.

Select the darwin.iso file you downloaded to your computer and click the Open button.
Step 5
Check the Connected option and click the Close button.

After adding the darwin.iso to the Mojave 10.14 VM, the VMware Tools installation window will open. Click Install VMware Tools.

Click on the Continue button to install VM Tools on the Mojave.

How to Share Files from Windows PC to macOS Mojave Virtual Machine
After you install Guest Software for Mac OS Mojave 10.14, you need to allow access to VM Tools when copying files from the Host PC to the virtual machine.
Follow the steps below to share files between Mac OS Mojave 10.14 and Windows PC.
Step 1
Create a new text document on the Windows 10 Host PC and then drag and drop it onto the virtual machine.
You will receive an access error as shown in the following image. In the warning window that appears, click on the Open System Preferences button.

To make changes in the Security & Privacy window, click on the symbol in the image below.
Step 3
To continue processing, type your password and click on the Unlock button.
Step 4
In the Privacy section, select vm-tools-deamon.
Step 5
Once you have enabled the VM Tools application, close the window.

Restart your virtual machine.

After restarting the macOS virtual machine, try to drag and drop the file you created to the virtual machine. As you can see in the image below, you can now successfully share files between the Windows Host PC and the virtual machine.
