Настройка подключения VPN на Mac
Apple»
> «Системные настройки», нажмите «Сеть», нажмите раскрывающееся меню «Действия» , затем выберите «Импортировать конфигурации». Выберите файл, затем нажмите «Импортировать».
Введите настройки VPN автоматически
На Mac выберите меню Apple

PPTP VPN on MAC OS X Sierra, High Sierra and Mojave for FREE
PPTP VPN for Mac OS X
Update: For Mac OS X Catalina
For PPTP VPN on Mac OS X Catalina continue here.
Introduction
PPTP VPN is no longer supported on macOS Sierra and High Sierra and that is just fine, because there are some security issues. What is not fine that in corporate environment the inertia is so big, that this can take years to stop using PPTP VPN.
So you have basically 4 options:
- change your job
- use some of third-party software for example shimovpn (€49)
- use my custom made PPTP VPN for mac (☕️)
- DIY (free)
PPTP VPN ON MACOS SIERRA AND HIGH SIERRA IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE
DIY Solution
Here is video tutorial reproducing following steps.
I’m going to cover the third one here and its quite simple. Open terminal and create file with name of your vpn server in /etc/ppp/peers/
If you get error, because the peers folder doesn’t exist, create it with mkdir /etc/ppp/peers command). Then edit this newly created file
Copy paste and fill your details
And finally run pppd deamon
If you get PPTP error when reading socket : EOF just try run the command again, or comment out the the line with ms-dns 8.8.8.8
Alternatively you can create this file anywhere and run it as
Automator
You can automate it with Automator. Just drag and drop “Run AppleScript” from left pane. And insert following line:
Now save it to Application folder and you can run it as regular app. It will ask you for administrator privileges every time because it runs pppd command. When you run it you can see little gear in you status bar indicating VPN runs and get error prompt any time VPM fails.
Download VPN.app
If you want to have nice shiny app that let you connect to VPN and that you can control from menu bar, instead of writing commands again and again in terminal, you can download this one for price of 1 coffee.
After you download, you have to right-click and open to run it.

Hi. for this diy script, I added it to automator and ran it from applications. It worked and the VPN connection was made. While it’ running, the gear remains spinning, then when I stop it, the connection remains. Is there a way to stop it manually, or add to the script to stop the connection when I stop the script? I tried killall pppd and with sudo as well. Thanks!
Androidena
The Shimo VPN app supports all major VPN protocols: CiscoVPN, OpenVPN, L2TP, PPTP, and all standard-compliant IPSec connections. Shimo also enables you to set up split tunneling on Mac or to establish encrypted SSH connections, including port forwarding for secure web browsing.
I installed Shimo! Couldn’t help on osx 10.14.6 connect to pptp. A general error occured. Please get in contact with the support from Mailbutler.PPTP received unexpected message type = 6699

i have a problem with pptp, on windows works without problem, but on mac when operator router address is same as gw on vpn it wont find any remote address.
Can this be fixed in your script?
As i said on windows works without problem.
Hi is it running for Catalina now V10.15.5? Need it for Parallels WIn 10 vpn to Winserver Pls advise asap
Vincent
I just bough the App (v.1.1.1), it works to connect to my VPN, but I have two requests: could the icon change color or otherwise indicate that the connection is made? Also, would it be possible to have an option in the App to disconnect the VPN? Right now I have to start Terminal and kill pppd manually. I see in the App’s menu a toggle button, when I click it, it becomes “waiting…”, and once the connection is successful, the button reappears, still in an “off” state, yet I can connect to my VPN resources and the Log shows that the connection is successful.
I am running Mojave with the latest security patch (10.14.6 with Feb. 2020 patch).
Vincent
And now it works (icon becomes black, toggle switch goes to green, toggling it again disconnects). I moved the app file to the Applications folder, maybe that was what was missing? Looking good for now, thanks!
RickkeeC
For Catalina, the only thing we found to work is VPNTracker.com for $99 per year. (Comes with free 3 minute access 🙁 so you can check it works) You have to be able to enable MPEE? MPPE? encryption on your VPN Router. Maybe better to get a cheap VPN router that supports L2TP/IPSEC…. Anyhow, they use a custom module to add back the pptp functionality.
David
Hi, I bought the app a few days ago – Is it possible to set up split tunneling with this app? When I connect to the VPN I can access the VPN resources, but I can’t access the internet.
I’ve downloaded the software – it said it was trying to install a helper agent, asked for my password which I input. Running the app does nothing and doesn’t bring up any window? 🙁 OS Sierra 10.12.6
Hmm ignore that – after 3 restarts for some reason my machine decided to allow it! Random.

I can’t connect because of username :
rcvd [CHAP Failure “E=691 R=0 V=3 M=Authentication failure”]
Mon Mar 23 10:34:29 2020 : MS-CHAP authentication failed: Authentication failure
when I put domain\user , it removes the backslash : domainuser
when I try double backslash : domain\\user , it keeps the double backslash : domain\\user

PPTP VPN ON MAC OS X CATALINA FOR FREE
Introduction
PPTP VPN is no longer supported on macOS for some time but in last release the PPTP.ppp plugin, that was still part of the OSX and we were able to reuse it to connect was also removed.
Solution
Please note that PPTP is outdated and you should not use it. Also I have limited chance to test is so it may not work at all.
You can try build this library http://pptpclient.sourceforge.net/howto-debian.phtml and put the output binary into /usr/local/bin. You can build it on your own or download my build (http://filipmolcik.com/releases/pptp/pptp.zip).
Then create pptp_config_file in /etc/ppp/peers/ and edit it as is below (change REMOTE_ADRESS, USER_NAME and PASSWORD to fit your needs). Also note the first line that is different from the previous script.
And finally run it with command

Hey, does anybody try it on Big Sur?
I spent some days trying, but the result it that the mppe is not included in the kernel, and no success.
Any ideas?

Any solution for Catalina giving connection termination ?

Hello. Have anybody fixed error:
MPPE required, but kernel has no support
My server VPN require it.
spectroman
So is there any suggestion to fix the “MPPE required, but kernel has no support.” on Catalina ?
epeus
To deal with this I have to use pppd from Mojave ( 847.200.5 ). I renamed it to mpppd and put it in /usr/local/bin/ then when I need to connect to my VPN server I will type sudo mpppd call pptp_config_file . You can download my Mojave’s pppd here: https://github.com/anhnd/PPTPMacOS10.15 or try to get it yourself
admin
I have tried it, but still getting “MPPE required, but kernel has no support.”…. Didn’t you forget to mention any other steps? For example to also use locale/bin/pptp file from Mojave?
Hey,
it seems the link is not valid anymore, may i ask you to share it again in order to try your solution please?
Thanks in advance!

You need to change REMOTE_SERVER to your remote vpn server address.

I’m having the same problem now…
Hope someone will find a fix !
Eddie
I connected to VPN but then I got no buffer space available, then I’ll lost my connection with VPN and also internet.
How could I solve this problem?
Do_alex
Sorry, I posted on the other page at first… my bad.
I was able to connect with the first method, when I was on macOs 10.14.

ToughGuy
I had the same issue as Do_alex until I moved into the directory with the config file and executed from there. So, in Terminal.app:
cd /etc/ppp/peers
sudo pppd call pptp_config_file
After doing this, I started getting rcvd info and then encountered an “auth eap” authentication issue. Got around this by opening the config file and added the following lines below “noauth”:
refuse-eap
refuse-chap
refuse-mschap
Bingo, I’m now successfully connecting. After making the connection, pptp surged to using about 90% of the cpu, but has since settled down. Thanks, Filip and Do_Alex! I posted the steps I used, here:
François
Doesn’t work on Catalina, I still have connection terminated after timeout 🙁
Sohail
I built the pptp myself and tried connecting. Here is what I get:
sudo pppd call pptp_vpn_config_file
Sohail
Forgot to mention that the same happened with the built file I downloaded from your link.
Stranger
Make sure when you run “sudo pppd call pptp_config_file” instead of “sudo pppd call pptp_vpn_config_file”, the filename in “/etc/ppp/peers/” should matche the call command.
admin
Thanks, I have updated the text.
I thinks its works. isn’t?
sudo pppd call VPNpptp
