How to Fix Wacom Tablet Driver Problems in Big Sur
If you’re having problems with your Wacom drawing tablet after upgrading to macOS Big Sur, here we show you how to get it working again.
Depending on your model, some pens stopped working properly with graphic design software due to Wacom issues after updating Photoshop and after updating to Big Sur.
Many received an error message on the tablet saying “Security settings prevented the Wacom software from posting an event” or no device appears connected in the Wacom Desktop Center.
Others have found issues with pen tracking no longer working after waking from sleep in Big Sur, lag issues when using the pen or general strange pen stroke behavior.
You May Also Like:
This has particularly affected the Intuos Pro models although it has also caused problems with the Cintiq models and other Wacom tablets too such as the Wacom One and
Although Wacom has released updated drivers for Big Sur, the problem is Apple’s Gatekeeper triggers an “unidentified developer” warning when anything is downloaded outside the Mac App Store and prevents your Wacom device communicating with your Mac properly.
A similar problem happened when Wacom users upgraded to macOS Catalina and the solution for Big Sur is very similar.
You have to make some manual adjustments in macOS to make Big Sur recognize them.
Follow these instructions to make your Wacom Intuos Pro and other Wacom drawing pads work with Big Sur.
Step 1
First, you need to make sure that you’ve fully removed any existing Wacom drivers that are installed. To do this, go to Applications > Wacom Utility and run the uninstaller
Restart your Mac
Download and install the latest available Wacom drivers for Mac. If you receive the warning “Install Wacom Tablet.pkg can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software”, click “Ok” and then “Open”.
If prompted to allow permissions during the installation process choose “Allow”
Restart your Mac
Go to /Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist and delete the com.apple.systempreferences.plist file.
Restart your Mac
Connect your Wacom tablet
For some users, the Wacom tablet will now start working again as it will solve the preference conflict that was causing the problem.
Step 2
In some cases however, the installation process does not prompt you to allow permissions in which case you have to do it manually.
Note that you must grant permissions within 30 minutes of installing the Big Sur Wacom driver otherwise you will have to go back and repeat Step 1.
Go To System Preferences > Security & Privacy
Click on the General Tab. If there’s a message asking to allow Software From Wacom Technology Corp click “Allow”.
Go to the Privacy tab and select Accessibility
Click the lock at the bottom of the panel so that you can make changes.
Select the Wacom IOManager Driver and any other Wacom related component and remove it by clicking on the minus “-” sign.
If you can’t see it, you’ll need to drag it in there from your Mac’s hard drive. To do this open a Finder winder and select Machintosh HD > Library > Application Support > Tablet > Content > WacomTabletDriver and select the WacomTabletDriver.app. Right click (or CTRL-Click) on it and select Show Package Contents. Then Click on Resources, scroll down to the WacomTouchDriver file and drag it into the Security & Privacy window that you’ve still got open.
Select Input Monitoring and add a check mark next to the FirmwareUpdater and WacomTabletDriver.
Scroll down to Files and Folders and find Wacom Desktop Center and add checkmarks to anything that appears.
Scroll down to Automation. If no driver appears, you’ll need to drag it in there. To do this click on Applications > Wacom Tablet and launch Wacom Desktop Center. This will then trigger the setup wizard. Under Devices in the Wacom Desktop Center, select your tablet and select Pen Settings. Click “Allow” on the control request that appears. You should then see Wacom Desktop Center in the Automation window.
Restart your Mac.
You should find that your Wacom tablet now works properly with Big Sur.
In future, Wacom recommends Mac users wait before upgrading to the next version of macOS to ensure that their Wacom drivers continue to work with it.
If you’re still have problems getting your Wacom Intuos Pro to work with your Mac, let us know in the comments below.

My Wacom Intuos Pro does not recognize the Wacom pen since Big Sur update. Been on phone with Wacom all day. Suggestions?

If you want to add the Wacom apps to Full disk Access open the System Preferences> Security & Privacy
Scroll down to Full Disk Access and select it, click on the + button this will open a new window to
your Applications folder. Scroll down to the Wacom folder, open it and select the Wacom apps

Stick with bothering Wacom it is there product it is up to them to supply the drivers necessary
for your tablet and pen.
Have you checked their product support site.
What exact model of Intros Pro do you have?
Feb 6, 2021 1:42 AM
I have been all over the world with this problem. Intuos Pro small, PTH-451. Art Pen. Thanks for the help.
Pen worked for over an hour this am, then disappeared.
Feb 6, 2021 1:56 AM
Did you download this driver for your Tablet and Pen.
Once downloaded double- click to install.
I think the Wacom drivers need to have full Disk Access in
System Preferences> Security & Privacy> Privacy> Full Disk Access,
click the plus button to add the Wacom drivers if asked.
Is it possible your pen is faulty, do you have another one you can borrow
to eliminate that question.
Feb 6, 2021 2:03 AM
Screenshots. Downloaded driver when talking to Wacom yesterday.
In Accessibility but not Full Access.
Feb 6, 2021 3:43 AM
Well you seem to have done everything.
Could the pen / tablet be faulty, can you try them on another mac
either running Big Sur or not.
Do Wacom have a users forum where you can ask a question
or get further advice.

Not in Full Disk Access. How do I input it? What tern=ms do I use.

So far, this am, it’s working fine without Full Disk Access. Thanks for the help.

if you have Clean my mac you might need to go to: Optimization-enable all WACOM
Feb 9, 2021 8:38 PM
Do not install CleanMyMac this has the potential to cause your mac more harm than any benefits it may
pretend to offer. Often it will flag up files as threats which you may be tempted to delete, these files are often
much needed system files that if deleted will cause problems.
If you have it installed go to the developers website and get full instructions on how to uninstall thoroughly.
Macs do not need cleaning or optimisation apps or anti-virus apps, these run in the background using up
system resources giving false information and have the potential to harm your mac rather than protect it.

How to install Wacom drivers on M1 Macs. Instructions.
macrumors 65816
I have seen two M1 Mac reviews on YouTube today that said Wacom drivers are currently unavailable. This is wrong. The installer is finicky because it throws up a permissions warning but the drivers work fine after you reapply permissions.
Install the driver, ignore the permissions warning after install and reboot.
To reapply permissions go to Security & Privacy in System Preferences.
Click on the Privacy tab.
Scroll down to Accessibility and recheck com.Wacom.IOManager. You can also right click on it, show the driver in the Finder and drag it back into the Accessibility section.
Next go to Input Monitoring and do the same thing with WacomTabletDriver.
The drivers should now work fine and you can edit your settings in the Wacom Tablet preference pane.

Nice to hear that .
Really i use more often my Intuos Pro as a touch device rather than a drawing input.

My Mini arrived today. As OP described, the current Wacom Driver work. I had to remove it and install again on Privacy settings, but it worked.
Everything seems OK. Even drawing on iPad apps with my Intuos Pro (Infinite Painter, it’s updated to work with M1 Mac).
Everything it’s pretty snappier, specially Corel Painter 2021 (which on Intel is slow when you have some amount of layers) and Artrage 6 (which have slowdowns in tasks like creating or reordering layers). Clip Studio Paint (it’s M1 native) it’s like a ricochet, it starts almost instantly.
I come from a Mini 2018, but the difference seems more than «only 2 years CPU difference», much much more. And almost all apps are running under Rosetta 2. All apps seems fast as Procreate on iPad. The only software which don’t work correctly is Paintstorm Studio, the entire UI is full of glitches; Realistic Paint Studio (the other app from the same creator of Paintstorm Studio) works ok.
Luna Display/Astropad Standard is also much snappier than before. Now I can use it with Retina resolution at 60fps. Sidecar is also more fast than under Intel, but the difference isn’t as pronounced as is with Luna, and the Pencil pressure is still very wrong; anyway Luna/Astropad is much faster and better, both in Intel or M1. For drawing with iPad as a drawing monitor for Mac, I recommend Luna Display/Astropad.
