Windows Store error «We weren’t able to connect to the Store. This might have happened because of a server problem or the network connection timed out. Please wait a few minutes a try again»

Original Title: Windows Store and Microsoft Services not working

I have been trying for a while to update to Windows 8.1, and whenever I open the Windows Store, I get the following message:

«We weren’t able to connect to the Store. This might have happened because of a server problem or the network connection timed out. Please wait a few minutes a try again.»

I have looked through a lot of topics, and been through the simple solutions, such as checking that the time is synced properly, and clearing the store cache.

Just today, I found another solution posted, which involved making my computer trusted. In order to do that, I had to connect my local account to my microsoft account, which I attempted to do, only to be met with the following message:

«Sorry, we couldn’t connect to Microsoft services right now. If this problem persists, search for «network problems» on the Start screen.»

I did the search it suggested, and nothing came up. When I looked this issue up online, I found the suggestion to create a new user account, which was met with the same issue. The other suggestion involved running a Microsoft Account Diagnosis tool that investigated the issue, which turned up a few «Problems Found», namely an Unfixed «Problems with Microsoft account policy» and a Detected «Rootcauses found and created logs», but it doesn’t tell me what any of this means, or how to go about fixing them.

Additionally, some of the suggested solutions involved an antivirus program, but I don’t have a third party antivirus program installed.

Any help is appreciated, as I would really like to solve this issue.

Microsoft store connection problem

My windows Store has stopped opening, It comes up with an error «Code: 0x80072EFD » and says to «Check your connection, Microsoft store needs to be online. It looks like you’re not.» But the computer is connected to a trusted internet connected that is strong and fast. some of my apps also stopped working correctly, apps that I got off of Windows Store, one in particular, Twitter.

I would be apperciated if you help me?

Your Windows applications are unable to connect to the Internet. To troubleshoot this, kindly follow these steps;
Press Windows + R to open Run.
Type inetcpl.cpl and press Enter to open Internet Options.
Go to Connections>LAN settings.
Uncheck Use a proxy server for your LAN and save the changes.
If Use a proxy server for your LAN is already unchecked and the Windows apps are still unable to connect to the Internet, uncheck Automatically detect settings.
Save the changes and check if your issue has been fixed.

Hi Keyvan. I’m Greg, an installation specialist and 9 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

It’s not a LAN issue it’s a store issue.

To repair the store:

Try running the Windows Store apps Troubleshooter at Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.

If that fails go to Settings>Apps and highlight Microsoft Store, choose Advanced Settings, then Reset. After it resets, restart PC.

If that fails then Try running the Windows Store apps Troubleshooter at Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.

If that fails then reinstall Store. Type CMD in Start Search, right click Command Prompt result to Run as Administrator, copy the following code and paste it into the box using the Edit tools from Box’s top left dropdown menu, press Enter:

If these all fail then go over this checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki.

Start with Step 4 to turn off Startup freeloaders which can conflict and cause issues, then Step 7 to check for infection the most thorough way, then step 10 to check for damaged System Files. Then continue with the other steps to go over your install most thoroughly.

If nothing else works then do a Repair Install, by installing Media Creation Tool and then choosing to Upgrade Now. This reinstalls Windows while keeping files, programs and most settings in place, and is also the most stable method to advance to the latest version. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it’s resolved.

Since your other apps are working, may we know what you are trying to do with Winzip? Windows 8 has a built in Winzip application which you can use it to extract and compress large files, it does not require you to sign in to your Microsoft account. However, if you are trying to download Winzip Universal, it does require you sign in to your Microsoft account since it is on the Windows app store. Upon checking Winzip Universal is not compatible with your Windows 8 device, kindly check this link for more information about it.

[SOLVED] Windows 10 Store — Login Error: «We encountered an error. Please try signing in again later.»

I just upgraded to Windows 10 and everything seemed to upgrade just fine, but when I went to the new Microsoft store I was unable to login to get anything from the store. I would be asked to put in my login credentials, which I did, it would think for a few seconds, and then simply come back with an error that says, «We encountered an error. Please try signing in again later.»

I can use this same username and password on other Microsoft login areas, just not the new Windows 10 store. I have also tried a couple different logins, but they didn’t work either. I even tried creating a new account with an alternate email, and the confirmation email was never sent. Seems like there is something seriously buggy with the Windows 10 Store login.

How do I get logged into the Windows 10 Store?

UPDATE 8/13/2015: I FINALLY FIGURED OUT A SOLUTION! The problem seems to be with the Local Account.

1 — I followed the instructions here to login with my Microsoft Account:

Go to Start , then select Settings  > Accounts > Your account.

Select Sign in with a Microsoft account instead.

Follow the prompts to switch to a Microsoft account. You may need to verify your identity by entering a confirmation code.

Your local account will switch to your Microsoft account. The next time you sign in to Windows, use your Microsoft account name and password. Your apps and files will not be affected.

2 — I then logged out of my Local Account (completely out of windows) and now in the lower left hand corner there are two accounts, including a new one showing my email address for my Microsoft account.

3 — I then clicked on the Microsoft Account (with my email address) and logged in with my Microsoft Account credentials (instead of my normal Local Account windows credentials I used when upgrading from Windows 7).

It setup my new account for a few minutes and when it finally came up, Windows 10 now recognized my Microsoft Account as connected to my Windows account, and I was finally able to log into the Windows 10 store!

«We are unable to connect right now. Please check your network and try again later.»

I have a user who, when attempting to open the Outlook 365 application from a remote location through our VPN, receives the error: «We are unable to connect right now. Please check your network and try again later.»

Troubleshooting steps taken:

  • Rebooted
  • Ran Outlook in safe mode
  • Ran Outlook /resetnavpane
  • Reinstalled Office
  • Ran Office Repair
  • Applied (A) and (B) fix from https://teamventi.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/4000106581-fix-error-when-you-activate-office-from-office-365

Applying the (B) fix from the last bullet point and running an Office repair resolved the issue until the user rebooted. Reapplying this apparent fix did not re-resolve the issue however.

Greetings, based on the error message, please check if the registry key has been changed, please try the following steps to check and change it. to protect your data, I highly suggest you back up your registry in advance.

  1. Open your registry editor: win+r -> type regedit
  2. Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\NlaSvc\Parameters\Internet, it should be like following image. if it’s different, please manually change it to EnableActiveProbing»=dword:00000001.
  1. Open Outlook to see the result.

If it doesn’t work, please remember to restore back up registry. Meantime, I need to collect more information for further investigation.

  1. How many connections do you find in Internet network? Is VPN uses proxy connection? Is VPN the default connection?
  2. Please go to Start > Apps and Features > find and click the Microsoft Office 365 business application and provide the version for us.
