You may wish to Easily Back Up The Registry in Windows [www.howtogeek.com] before performing the steps below.
NB: The settings may be in one or both sets of locations listed below depending on if Steam was installed and used on the same Windows account and/or was used on a different Windows account.
For example: Steam could be installed and used on Windows account X and then also used on Windows account Y.

Before this fix, Steam was opening slowly, freezing frequently and hanging on «Preparing to launch. » for games. In addition, Team Fortress 2 froze for 10 seconds whenever the backpack, class loadout or server browser was opened.
After defragging, scanning for errors and scanning for viruses, the issue was still present. It was only after Windows stated that compatibility settings had been applied to «GameOverlayUI.exe» that the cause was found: In regedit under the compatibility layer keys, several items were listed with Steam, including the Steam client itself, which Windows had failed to mention before.
After removing all entries related to Steam, the client opened and logged in almost instantly. The «Preparing to launch. » window appeared for a much shorter duration before playing games too.
Later, after I bought new PC and installed a fresh copy of Windows, Steam was freezing while opening again. The cause once more was that Windows had applied compatibility settings without warning to SteamService.exe, with no warning from Steam either.
In addition, each time Steam is removed from: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Compatibility Assistant\Store\ and then Steam is opened, the entry is added again, although none of issues listed above reoccur after this single entry is re-added.

This should work:
Right-click the shortcut you use -> click «Properties» -> go to the «Shortcut» tab if it didn’t open there by default -> click «Advanced. » -> check «Run as administrator» -> «OK» -> «Apply»
You should be able to copy that shortcut into the startup folder, then. First you’ll have to disable steam’s own automatic startup:
Steam -> Settings -> Interface -> Uncheck «Run Steam when my computer starts» -> OK
If you’re still on win7 like myself, then all you have to do is drag your modified shortcut into the «Startup» folder on your start menu. On win10, you’ll have to open the folder itself, which by default should be at:
then same thing, just drag and copy the shortcut to that folder. Should probably double-check that it keeps the run as admin setting, too, just to be sure.

I made it as i had problems with my Windows 8.1 crashing on some games and i seen Compatibility mode helps some times. but some games do not have a .exe file and these helps to move them as well to Compatibility mode

Ok so first thing you want to do is go to your library in Steam and then go to the game you want to active Compatibility mode on right click the game and select proprieties from the drop down menu:
Then in the proportions windows that will open select Set launch options:
Then these window need to open:

And you are done
If you like to use these with the Compatibility mode, make sure to add them in these order:
So first I recommend you try to find a crack and run it with that, see if that helps to run the game, its possible my issues is something else, my PC is piled up with stuff that can make a crash happen, as I use it some what as a development enviremnt and what ever the case that will likely be the first step to get it running
I also tryed to use it in a Virual Machine of Windows 7 and it just did not run, possible becouse the Virtual GPU is not supported, so may need to find a fix that way if cant find a way to make it really work on Windows 10, that sadly will be the first game like that so far for me
O that matter, making a Virtual Machine is basiclly download an ISO, select the ISO in the virtual Machien software, install the OS and you should be set to go

I have changed my steam.exe’s property -> compatibility to make it so that it runs in administrator mode everytime, but whenever I open steam it opens up a pop-up saying that it’s running in compatibility mode.
Help on making so that steam always runs on administrator mode without the compatibility pop-up?
I have the same problem in windows 8.1.
I tried something:
In steam.exe’s properties -> compatibility tab, I selected administrator inside another menu, from the «all users», in the bottom of the compatibility tab.
For me, it worked, try it.
-OBD.: In windows 10, my recent upgrade, this problem returns, without solution.

I have installed MMORPG games that I would like to be accessed via my steam but some of them needs for steam to be running in admin to be launched properly.
I haven’t found any other solution for running these games using steam without having it run as admin so that’s why I’m running it as admin.
