What is the get windows 10 button

Windows start button not working since latest Windows 10 Update

All of a sudden my windows start button has stopped working. I cannot launch windows or any apps on my Toshiba Satellite Laptop.

I have tried to perform some of the suggested fixes but to no avail. I launched settings using a right click from the start button to check for updates but eventually that froze. I have also tried to check for problems using the troubleshooting tool for start button but that just went around in circles for hours, nothing seems to be helping this very frustrating situation. The calendar/clock won’t open, the taskbar just isn’t working!I can’t right click anything on the taskbar apart from the start button and even then it doesn’t launch what I ask it to! Getting worried I won’t be able to shut the laptop down soon if this goes on 🙁

I am not techy and cannot understand why this has happened — Any suggestions please?

Is there a fix coming from Microsoft?

So, my windows start button and X doesn’t work. I can only get to settings by right clicking the start windows button and then I have to click it again to make settings load. I then select the setting and it freezes but eventually I located and discovered that all updates have been successful. What I can’t do is open windows defender (I uninstalled a free anti virus programme to enable it).I just get the blue screen with the shield in the middle!

Tried uninstalling the display driver, that didn’t work.

I ran the trouble shooting option in and tried to fix windows problems via the button and it found a problem ‘ Potential Windows Update Database error detected’

Whilst writing this I have tried to check other settings by right clicking the start button, right clicking it again to make settings load, then selecting the setting. then it keeps freezing so can’t proceed and I just close it down.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L50-B. It came with windows 8.1 and I’ve checked my windows version, it is Windows 10 Version 1709.

Can you recommend anything else please? — The Laptop was fine until very recently, although a bit slow.

Do I need to try and re-install windows? Why does the settings work for a minute and then freeze? I’m no techy but something is seriously wrong here.

Windows 10 Start button and search not working in windows 10 on quite a few computers

We have quite a few computers that over the past days the start button and search does not work. Did you push through a update that might have done this?

The start menu is built like the other «Windows 10 Store apps».

Here are some tips on how to fix problems with these apps

2016 07 19- 5 TIPS TO FIX WINDOWS STORE AND APP ISSUES IN WINDOWS 10
https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/5-tips-fix-window.
1. Win Store Trouble Shooter
2. Clear store Cache
3. Reset Windows update (use the tool in the following link)
4. Reg hack for Connection errors
5. Re-Register the Store

#1 MS DOWNLOADABLE WIN 10 STORE APP TROUBLE SHOOTER
http://aka.ms/diag_apps10

Note: both of these links above should take you to download the same diagnosis “CAB” file.

Use the built in Trouble shooter

Go to Settings > Update & security > Troubleshoot
Scroll down to the bottom
Click Windows Store Apps

Run it 2 or 3 times.

#3 MANUAL RESET WINDOWS UPDATES
the problems remain, you have to revert to a manual process to reset Windows Update
Check that System Restore is turned on and configured
https://www.pcworld.com/article/2955023/windows.
https://www.tekrevue.com/how-to-enable-system-r.

Create a System restore point. (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/402753. )
Use the following process to effectively delete the folders used by Windows Update:
#1 Start a command prompt in Administrator Mode:
In start menu search for CMD
Right click on it
Select “Run as Administrator”
#2: Stop various Windows Update Service, Cryptographic, Background Intelligent Transfer Service, and MSI Installer Windows services.
To do this, disconnect from the Internet. That means turning off Wi-Fi and disconnecting from a wired connection. If you don’t, Windows 10 will indicate some files are in use and cannot be modified or the command will be non-responsive. Restart your computer after disconnecting from the Internet.

Then type the following commands at a command prompt. Press the “ENTER” key after you type each command.
net stop wuauserv
net stop cryptSvc
net stop bits
net stop msiserver

#3 Rename the folders used by Windows Update:
Ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
Ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old

Reconnect to the internet

#4 Restart the services:
net start wuauserv
net start cryptSvc
net start bits
net start msiserver

#5 Restart the computer:
Reboot the computer
open Windows Update
click Check for updates.

RESET ALL STORE APPS / REREGISTER / APPS MISSING FROM WIN START MENU
Re-register all store apps, so they appear again in start menu. For that, open a PowerShell window as Administrator. Copy and paste the following line into the PowerShell window and press Enter:

Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers| Foreach

Note: if you re-register all applications, all your apps are back, however all your pinned apps will be reset (the right panel will be empty) so you need to re-pin everything that you want. Personnaly I did a screen capture before, to remember what I pinned and where (use the “snipping tool” in startmenu/windows accessories, with a delay to be able to open the start menu before the capture)

Windows Store Get Button doesnt work

Well, as the title says, the get button doesn’t work, it just reloads the page.

I was trying to download a OCR app because i need to copy a lot of text off a image.

Here’s a video of the issue:
Youtube

WSreset also does nothing.

I really hope there’s a solution that doesn’t require me to edit the registry and restart, can’t do that every time windows 10 goofs, i have lots of programs open and work to do.

Please try these options one by one and check after each option.

1. Open MS Store > Click on your profile picture on top right and sign-out. Then sign-in again.

2. Run Windows App Troubleshooter
Windows Key+X > Click Settings > Click Update & security > Click Troubleshoot > Scroll down to the bottom > Click Windows Store Apps > Click Run the Troubleshooter

3. Reset Windows Store through Command Prompt
Type cmd in Windows Search box > Right click on Command Prompt > Run As Administrator > Type WSreset.exe and click Enter > Reboot your computer

4. Re-register All Store apps
Right click on Windows Start > Right click on Windows Powershell (Admin) > Copy the following from below and right click in Powrshell to paste ? Enter > Restart your computer
Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach

5. Uninstall & Reinstall Store
Right click on Windows Start > Right click on Windows Powershell (Admin) > Copy the following from below and right click in Powershell to paste > Enter

Get-AppxPackage -allusers *WindowsStore* | Remove-AppxPackage

Copy the following from below and right click in Powershell to paste > Enter > Reboot your computer

Get-AppxPackage -allusers *WindowsStore* | Foreach

Let me know if you have any more question or require further help. If above didn’t work, I will supply more troubleshooting steps to solve this problem.

How to Change Start Button in Windows 10

Windows 10 comes with a start button which has Windows icon on it. It looks quite plain and boring. Having a different start menu button doesn’t seem like a bad idea in this case. So that is what this article is about, how to change start button in Windows 10.

To change the start button in Windows 10, you will have to download a third party software. There in no option within Windows 10 which let’s you change the start button. So the best and simplest option I came across is Classic Shell. Classic Shell is a free software which lets you change start button in Windows 10 easily. Apart from changing the start button it also lets you customize the start menu in Windows 10, but we will only be discussing the start button change in this article.

How to change start button in Windows 10 using Classic Shell:

Changing the start button using this software is a piece of cake. Let’s follow the steps below to change start button.

  • Install this software from the link provided at the end of this article.
  • After installing, run the software program. Upon running you will see a window like the one shown in the screenshot below.
  • Look at the bottom of this window, you will see an option for “replace start button”, highlighted with red box in the above screenshot.
  • From this option you can select the Aero button, Classic button, or you can select a custom image to be your start button.
  • Once done click the ok button and your Windows 10 start button will change to one of your choice. As can be seen in the screenshot below.

When selecting a custom image keep in mind that the size of the custom image should be fixed before selecting it. Otherwise, a big custom image will occupy most of the corner space of the screen.

I did come across other software to change start button like Startisback++ and Start10. But both of these are trial versions and become paid after 30 days. So I did not include them in this article.

Conclusion:

Classic Shell works great when trying to change start button in Windows 10. If it was something you have been looking for, then go ahead and try it out. You can easily change the start button and get the button you have always wanted.

How you can still get Windows 10 for free

Technical Level : Basic

Windows 10 was released with a free upgrade offer that lasted for 1 year. Now, the free upgrade promotional period is officially over. However, you can still snag yourself a free license of Windows 10, perfectly legally, if you know how.

It is a good idea to secure your important data before proceeding with any upgrade or installation.

Use a Windows 7 or Windows 8.x product key

While the free upgrade offer ended last year, Microsoft will still let you install Windows 10 and activate it using a valid Windows 7 or Windows 8.x product key. When you download Windows 10 this way, your PC will receive a digital license valid for the life of the device, exactly the same way as if you had taken advantage of last year’s offer.

First, you’ll need to find your product key. See my article » How to recover your Windows product key » for more information.

When you’ve found your product key, head over to the Download Windows 10 website and click the Download tool now button.

When the tool finishes downloading, open it, accept the license terms, and hit Upgrade this PC now. If you prefer, you can also select Create installation media for another PC to download an .iso file and clean install Windows 10.

If you choose to create installation media, make sure to download the correct version of Windows 10.

Either way, after Windows 10 installs, you can use your Windows 7 or Windows 8.x product key to activate when you are asked.

Assistive Technologies Offer

Microsoft is offering Windows 10 for free for customers who use «assistive technologies». All you have to do is visit their Accessibility website and hit the «upgrade now» button.

A tool will be downloaded that will help you upgrade your Windows 7 or 8.x machine to Windows 10. The process is the same as last year’s free upgrade process. When you download Windows 10 this way, your PC will receive a digital license valid for the life of the device, exactly the same way as if you had taken advantage of last year’s offer.

According to the terms, anyone who uses «assistive technologies» qualifies for the upgrade. These technologies can range anywhere from magnifiers and content readers to simply using a high contrast Windows theme or mouse pointer.

Despite the terms being clearly laid out, Microsoft is not checking that whomever downloads Windows 10 this way uses assistive technologies. And despite confusion when this loophole was discovered long ago, Microsoft has not hidden or withdrawn the offer. They also have not specified when it will end.

Reinstall Windows 10

If you took advantage of the free upgrade offer, or you obtained Windows 10 using the methods in this article, you can reinstall Windows 10 on that same machine however many times you’d like without providing a product key. This is because Windows 10 registers your hardware IDs with Microsoft’s servers, so that when you reinstall Windows, your hardware is automatically matched with the servers and activated.

Windows 10 also allows you to upgrade various hardware components like RAM or storage devices without requiring reactivation. This is also thanks to the ID matching system.

Now on to my next machine, my daughter’s Lenovo S10-3 netbook, running Windows 7 Starter.

I let it follow the whole upgrade process as Microsoft designed it by reserving a copy of Windows 10 and waiting for it to prompt me that Windows 10 was ready to install. AS part of this process, the checker tells me

It takes a long time on such a slow machine so I cant be sitting next to it for the whole process.

I have let it try to upgrade twice by following the prompts and once by using the USB.

In all cases, the black installation percentage dial has gone well over 50% and maybe higher and then and then – «Restoring your previous version of Windows» screen appears. If I am not around, ( I went o bed last night), I don’t even see this message. This morning I just woke up to a Windows 7 Starter system again.

When my old Windows 7 starter re-boots, the whole automatic background download starts again and then I get asked to commence the upgrade again. Having now had 3 downloads on this one machine, I am not going to bother starting the next upgrade until I can resolve what is preventing this upgrade from happening.

I cant even get the first upgrade to complete to take a clean install option.

Windows Update History shows it failed with error code of C1900101, which indicates some sort of incompatibility. Any ideas about how I can narrow it down.
