Please restart your computer and allow 20 minutes for the system to run before uploading information required to help me investigate your problem. When examining Event Viewer log files many, not all, problems show in the period immediately after the computer has been booted.

Please provide a copy of your System Information file. To access your System Information file select the keyboard shortcut Win+R , type msinfo32 and click OK . Place the cursor on System Summary . Select File, Export and give the file a name noting where it is located. Click Save . Do not place the cursor within the body of the report before exporting the file. The system creates a new System Information file each time system information is accessed. You need to allow a minute or two for the file to be fully populated before exporting a copy. Please upload the file to your OneDrive, share with everyone and post a link here. Reports in normal mode preferred. Please say if the report has been obtained in safe mode. If the report is in a language other than English, please state the language.

Please upload to your One Drive and share with everyone a copy of your System log file from your Event Viewer and post a link here. Please remove any earlier copies of the logs from your OneDrive.

GDR-DU Updates fail to install

Got five (5) variations of GDR-DU that failed to install. see pic

What are they? How important are they? What should I do?

Looked up the error code explanation and it was no help. Said Failed to install.

I am using Windows 10 version 1709 Build 16299.665

Don’t know if this is what caused me to get a Blue Screen, Can’t load O/S.

But cause me concern about the failed install.

Hi Chas. I’m Greg, an installation specialist and 9 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

What I’d do at this point is install Media Creation Tool from this link, choosing the button to Install Tool Now and then open the installed app and choose Upgrade This PC Now: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m.

This is the most stable way to change to the latest version (which you need anyway) and because it reinstalls WIndows while keeping your files and programs in place, fixes most problems. It also brings all Windows Updates to date.

If there are any hurdles during install then these steps can overcome them: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki.

If these do not help then report back any verbatim error message or behavior.

If you want to temporarily block the update then try running the Hide Updates tool downloaded and installed from here: http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2/2/f2.

If it wont’ find and hide the Update then you can set a Metered Connection to turn off Windows Updates for awhile until the version matures and you can try again using the method I suggest which always works best: https://www.howtogeek.com/224471/how-to-prevent.

Almost everyone with major version upgrade problems who Clean installs the same version does not have those problems. This Clean Install should get you past all difficulties as it has hundreds of thousands of others who have followed the steps in this link and never come back to report another problem: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki.

As far as I’m concerned, win10 and later drivers are related with KBs to the current win10 version; win10 and later upgrade &servicing drivers are included KBs about later win10 version and enable current win10 version to upgrade.

Windows 10 Feature on Demand are Windows feature packages that can be added at any time.

GDR-DU: General Distribution Release. If updates are only delivered from Windows (or Microsoft) Update (including via WSUS), then all the files remain on the GDR branch.

It depends on your requirements, if you don’t need it, you may uncheck it.
