Okay but could be better

I was enjoying using the Desktop version of this app, but your most recent update is not working. It just hangs and doesn’t load, and my app store is perpetually showing me that I have one update that can’t be installed. I tried deleting WhatsApp thinking I could reinstall the app and start from scratch, but that’s not working either. It still shows an update and now I can’t reinstall it on my MacBook and I can’t update it either cause there’s nothing on my computer to update. Hope you can fix this problem soon.
UPDATE: I no longer see an «Update» notification on the app page, now I see an install icon, but the app won’t install. It just hangs. When are you going to fix this? Your app pushes out more updates than any other app on my computer, and I don’t see substantive differences from update to update.
Also, why not make it possible to videochat from the computer with your app. That would be a great feature.

Great start, but needs improvement

I love using WhatsApp on my iPhone and like the idea of being able to use the desktop app as well. The only real gripe I have is that the desktop app does not recognize keyboard text shortcuts, nor does it allow you to type seamlessly in another language. In my case, I use WhatsApp a lot to talk to friends and family in Mexico and Spain—in Spanish. The app does not recognize that I am typing in Spanish and marks all words as mis-spelled and underlines them in red. Further, it does not do any auto-correct or suggested text features. A big request I would have is to incorporate the languages / multi-language abilities that other Mac developers (and Apple) put into their apps. If the app were improved with this upgrade, I would give this app 5 stars!

Very solid desktop client

This app integrates surprisingly well with the mobile app, considering that WhatsApp is end-to-end encrypted. Despite fetching all messages from the phone, it has no lag and seems always reliable in making sure that the message is delivery correctly, even under poor network conditions.

Unlike the WeChat client, the WhatsApp client is even able to load history, in spite of the fact that it is coming from one’s own phone rather than a company server. It’s also able to send stickers. The user interface is a very consistent experience with the mobile app, and I find it much easier to use than any other client.

Странное приложение

По-моему, постоянная привязка к телефону это абсурд какой-то. Телефон лежит рядом, вай фай периодически просит авторизацию на телефоне и в этот момент невозможно пользоваться приложением. Действительно, телеграм в этом случае в выигрыше.

Разработчиков уволили?

Главные претензии:
1) привязка к телефону. Например, если айфон сел, а надо зайти на макбуке в вотсап, то вы в пролете
2) темная тема отсутствует, а интерфейс сам не в стиле мак ос
3) нет пункта в системном меню «поделиться», жутко выбешивает
4) встроенных звонков тоже нет
Короче, вотсапп отстает от конкурентов на пару лет

Позор.

Огромный минус в том, что приложение не может работать без подключенного к интернету телефона! Это очень-очень не удобно! Приложение не может быть автономным… Telegram в этом плане просто незаменим и очень удобен. Мне не понятно, как у такой компании нет д.с. для того, чтобы написать нормальное десктопное приложение.

In dire need of touchbar support!

This app is mostly great, it does everything that all the other paid WhatsApp applications do for free…except one — EMOJIS ON THE TOUCHBAR!

It’s so annoying to have to individually click on every emoji I want to use when plenty of other programs (including 3rd party whatsapp apps) have this function.

I feel my rating is justified because, although a seemingly small issue, touchbar support cannot be that hard to implement, and it makes sending messages (the apps main functionality) so much more tiresome than it needs to be, please devs, how hard can it be to add this in? It’s literally the apps only flaw but it’s such a huge issue and needs fixing, once that’s fixed it’ll be an easy 5 star review.

Too underequipped to be useful

It amazes me that a desktop app could be significantly less powerful and capable than a mobile app. I wanted to use this for video calls from my Mac, which I can’t. I expected to be able to update my status from the desktop app, which I can’t. I expected I could use this independently of my mobile, which I can’t. I wanted to use this seamlessly with the Photos app, dragging and dropping images each way, which I can’t. I thought the desktop app would improve the media browsing, which it does not. Many of the settings available on mobile aren’t available on Mac either.

I don’t understand the point of WhatsApp Desktop — the only benefit I can see is that you can type with a real keyboard. I also use Viber, which has an excellent fully-featured desktop app that syncs with your other devices, but doesn’t require tethering to my mobile. WhatsApp / Facebook really should take a lesson from them. It is exactly the same as the web-based app available via your browser, so why waste disk space downloading this program?

Needs to handle notifications in dock

WhatsApp does a very good job in most respects, but something has gone wrong lately in my MacBook version.
The Dock icon used to show a red number when there were new posts, now it doesn’t, so there is nothing to prompt me to look at it — except my phone.
The number did have an issue between the phone and laptop versions, one had the number of conversations where there were new messages, the other had the total number of new messages.
In addition, the algorithm for identifying when messages had actually been read was flakey, so I could never rely on where I had read to, and had to scroll up and down to check.
Apart from those grumbles, very good.

Внешне приложение похоже на встроенную в операционную систему стандартную программу «Сообщения», отличаясь от нее, на первый взгляд, только цветом. Главное ее окно также разделено на 2 части, слева отображается список чатов (или по другому — собеседников), справа — содержание выбранного чата. Под содержанием — маленькое окошко для ввода сообщения.

В функционале различия более существенные — через мессенджер не получится отправить смс на реальный номер телефона, зато получится написать или отправить вложение любому пользователю ватсап из своего списка контактов. И это не все его возможности.

Что еще умеет WhatsApp на Mac

• отправка сообщений в существующие чаты и создание своих, индивидуальных и групповых чатов;
• обмен фотографиями, документами и любыми другими произвольными файлами во время переписки. Все отправленное и полученное медиа сохраняется в истории профиля собеседника и может быть загружено заново;
• запись и отправка голосовых сообщений (при первой попытке потребуется дать разрешение на доступ к микрофону);
• просмотр и управление сообщениями во время их показа в разделе уведомлений Mac OS;
• временное отключение всплывающих уведомлений;
• изменение фото, имени и статуса своего профиля.

Чем Mac-версия WhatsApp отличается от версии для iPhone

1. Mac-версия WhatsApp — это несколько облегченный вариант мессенджера для iPhone. Хоть предназначение у них и одинаково (бесплатное общение через интернет), на десктопе доступны не все функции приложения. К примеру, отсутствуют аудио- и видеозвонки. Камера и микрофон при этом работают — можно отправлять селфи и записывать голосовые сообщения. — Функцию уже добавили!
2. Также нельзя отредактировать или добавить новый контакт. Эти действия нужно совершать на телефоне. Сделанные изменения отобразятся на Маке после синхронизации.

Скачать WhatsApp для Mac OS бесплатно можно по ссылками ниже. Как уже было сказано, есть 2 пути установки приложения — через оф. сайт и через App Store. Проще и быстрее — через App Store.

Whoever made this app, I want to say that I like this app but please, I want to use it without my phone having to be online so I wont have to deal with reconecting to your phone. Also please make a videocall and voicecall please I need it. But anyway it is a good app if your lazy to use your phone for Whatsapp
