Which games will work on windows 10
So basically, I want to buy W10 (not upgrade it from W7 just buy). And there is my question, will my games work fine on W10 or should I stay with W7.
My comp:
CPU: Intel Pentium G2130 3.2 GHz
RAM: 4GB
Graphic card: ATM Radeon HD 4850 512 Mb
Games in steam version I want to work:
Borderlands 2
CS : GO
Dead Space 2
TES: V Skyrim
GMOD
L4D2
Mirror’s Edge
PAYDAY 2
Portal 2
Primal Carnage
SE: Nazi Zombi Army 2
TF 2
Withcer 2
Tomb Raider
Games in non steam version I want to work:
BF 3
BF 4
AC 4: Black Flag
Also pls mind, that I don’t want Ultra super uber graphics with FXAA or other. I usually play on normal or low settings so there is more FPS.
Please tell me about your expierience with games on Windows 10
Why would you buy as opposed to upgrade . you’re not exactly getting anything different and truth be told you likely already have the upgrade files on your pc already.
But yeah W10 breaks a lot of games I would recommend waiting until next year for that upgrade.. for the simple reason thaaaat. all windpows os’s since 95 require a settling in period.

Dude, do you know that 30% of people are pirates and doesn’t have original W7. I’m in this 30%. So I JUST CAN»T UPGRADE, i have to buy.
«They are not working worse» And that is an answer I needed. BTW what is CPU and GC ?
CPU is the power of the proccesor, GC i dont know
and save the money about buying windows 10 and download it from microsoft website
Sadly I don’t have the option to upgrade. I have to buy. And don’t make this topic about W10 more longer. I just want to know, that will Payday 2 work on W10.
Dude pls. Stop. First I’m adult. Second I saved money. Third, stop forcing me to upgrade. I said I don’t want. End of discussion. If you don’t have anything more to say about those games on W10, then please, leave that discussion.
How did you save money by purchasing something that is being given away for free. I mean MS pretty much said it doesn’t care if your previous version was pirated or not. That was part of the whole reason they did it for free so they could bring the poirates udner the legal umbrella and gett better true counts of usage.
SO again. why Buy now when the update is free?
But to the question. It’s always best to wait. This is the other reason MS did the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ out the know people have learned to wait until the release bugs get ironed out before they buy for home. and corporate and business clients know to wait for the first service pack release before they beign upgrading. MS is incentivising earlier adoption which. is not working too well due to all the other isses. Early adopters are paying quite literally.
Aside from the spying, there’s the data usage. MS updates will download and instal regardless of whether you want to or not which has been playing havoc with people’s metered internet.
Games no longer work on Windows 10
I have roughly 10 PC games that are older, heck some used DirectX 8 :-).
However, they all worked perfectly on Windows 8.
After installing Windows 10 here is what happens
1. First attempt to run, it tells me I need to run it as administrator (they all do this)
2. I set it to run as administrator and then, nothing happens. Well I double click, I get the «app starting cursor» then nothing..
3. I set it to Windows 8 compatibility + run as administrator, nothing
4. I set it to run at 640×480, no DPI, run as admin, Windows XP / 8 / Vista oh.. the screen blinks, as if it is creating a DirectX window to actually play the game, but then it just goes back to the desktop and no errors, nothing in the event logs. Nadda.
Really sucks, these are some of my favorite games 🙁 and I was so thrilled they worked on Windows 8.
I will also add, just for a note.
That my daughter has a copy of the games and when we would try to start them on hers (same issues) on Windows 10, except that she has PowerDVD and it’s suite installed. When we set it to 640 bla bla, same as above it would give us an error saying PowerXXXX couldn’t run in this DPI / Resolution setting.. which I tried to resolve, but realized. (or guessing) that is only does this because instead of Macro Media running the game, PowerXXX was attempting to do it (probably a mime type)
Anyhoo. I am not even sure what to collect or how so that I can try to debug this. I guess I could run it under a debugger but I have no symbols or I guess maybe filemon / etc to see what it tries to access?
Lastly, I tried all the different options under troubleshooting compatibility, let it do its thing and nothing worked either.
This is really a let down as I have to back out of Windows 10 now unless I can resolve this. Since they ran on Windows 8.1 Pro, just fine. I don’t expect them to not work on Windows 10
P.S. I even downloaded the NVIDIA Windows 10 video drivers and still the same problem. Installed DirectX 9C (because I play everquest) and so that was there too.

Without knowing what games you’re referring to, it’s impossible for anybody to help you out.
One suggestion I can give is to make sure you have .Net framework 2.0 and 3.0 installed. Windows 8 had 3.0 installed by default IIRC, but not 10. You can look under Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features on or off. The applications may need some of the associated files that come with the frameworks, if not the whole frameworks themselves. Otherwise, that’s all I can suggest, and even my suggestion is purely a shot-in-the-dark.
I’m fighting my own game compatibility issues, mainly with x360ce.exe. It’s a program that lets me use my old USB controller with games. It works fine under 7, but it had problems under 8 and I haven’t had luck getting it to work under 10 yet.

The games are actually from originally different vendors, but were sold (I bought them in Europe LOL), by Sold Out Software.
Games like SpellForce, Might and Magic 4, Sonic etc
I actually didn’t realize that in fact the event log was giving me an error (because of the spam of some other things).
The SecDrv service failed to start due to the following error:
This driver has been blocked from loading
I know in some cases this can happen with 32 bit drivers on 64 bit machines etc. However I was specifically running Windows 8.1 Pro 64-Bit Edition and Upgraded to Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit
So, not sure why this only happens on Windows 10 (aside I know from some stricture security), but other than turning off signing validation. I have no idea how to get around this.
Sort of dumb that it works on 8.1 Pro 64 bit but not Windows pro 10 64 bit, so clearly something changed because the game is exactly the same game.

Yes I have the same problem as well ! All my old games like Microsoft Flight Simulator X and EA Sports does not work !
I hate Windows 10 — If they don’t come up with a patch for this problem I am going back to windows 7 or 8 and also my printer does not work too! You think they would have had some people try this out before sending out to the public to buy or upgrade ? I though Apple was bad but I thinking of maybe going to the other side ?

I am creating this guide after getting a new Windows 10 laptop and having to jump through the same hoops to get Games for Windows Live to sign in. The following information has worked successfully to re-download my GFWL profile on my new device. These instructions should also apply to any game using GFWL.
If this guide ends up helping you in any way, here are a few places where you can help me out:
Follow me on Twitch here. [www.twitch.tv]
Follow my Steam Curation page here.
If after reading everything below and you have a question or you want to add something to the guide, feel free to make a comment below. These comments have brought up the more obscure issues with GFWL and benefits those reading the guide today, your comment might do the same for those reading this in the future.
Now before you get started trying to troubleshoot or get GFWL installed, I’m assuming in advance that you are on the latest updates on Windows 10, if you are not, you will need to update before moving forward.
You’ll need install the GFWL\xlive prerequisites before sign-in to GFWL in-game will work. Otherwise, the sign-in prompt will just sit there attempting endlessly after you put in your credentials.
Now obviously you can get the gfwlclient from Microsoft, however I have run into issues in the past because the gfwlclient download that Microsoft provides doesn’t come with xliveredist. There are also a few GFWL games that require the GFWL Marketplace client installed to work. The PCGamingWiki community has been kind enough to package all 3 in 1 zip file and I’ve personally confirmed that they work on Windows 10 with no issues.
Download the zip file for all required GFWL files hosted on the pcgamingwiki here. [community.pcgamingwiki.com]
The zip file also includes the Sign-In Assistant install. However, you would only install the Windows Sign-In Assistant if you are still on Windows 7, I don’t have any Windows 7 devices anymore but in theory everything else should apply. Once you’ve installed gfwlclient, gfwlsetup, & xliveredist successfully, you can launch the game and attempt to sign in.
BE PATIENT, it took around 5 minutes after signing in with my Microsoft credentials before I was prompted for the CD KEY. Once that is done, you’ll need to wait around the same time for GFWL to download your profile from its servers. If everything worked successfully, you’ll be able to play onllne and get Xbox\GFWL achievements normally.
The notes below are a culmination of some fixes I remembered years ago, possible fixes mentioned by those who have commented on the guide across various GFWL games on Steam, & some random info that I’ve come across. If there is an additional fix that you ran into which isn’t mentioned here, please comment with that information and I’ll take a look to possibly include it for the guide.
Fixes that I’ve personally confirmed to work:
An old fix from years ago off the top of my head has been confirmed to work and this is specifically a GFWL problem. The instructions below are assuming you have followed the directions I’ve stated above.
If you have confirmed that you can log into any other Microsoft site but can’t log into the GFWL in-game client, this could be caused by your Microsoft password. If it is longer than 15 characters, this will prevent sign in. Once you have changed your Microsoft password to something lower, it should allow you to sign into the in-game client.
Possible fixes from the Steam community:
I personally didn’t have to do this but others have informed me that this was an additional fix for them when running into the «Please Wait» issue when trying to sign into GFWL in-game. There’s no harm in adding this step and there’s no harm in adding this small step. Before proceeding with the steps above, uninstall all forms of GFWL on your PC if it’s not working. Then run all 3 installation packages as administrator by right clicking on each file, clicking on «Run as Administrator» and proceeding normally.
Recently it was mentioned that 2 factor\Multifactor Authentication may also cause a problem during sign-in. I personally have not run into this issue but it might be something worth trying if you’ve tried all other known fixes. Specifically, you would have to disable 2FA\MFA to allow the initial sign-in to download your profile. Theoretically once that’s been completed and you signed in successfully, you can then turn 2FA\MFA back on since you should be able to auto sign-in to any other GFWL game on your local device once you put in the GFWL game in for that game. It was also mentioned that the app password option that Microsoft provides on the Microsoft Account page doesn’t work. I suspect that’s probably true since I believe that was created after GFWL was created.
Random information from the Internet:
While this is random information that I haven’t really looked into, it seems that enough people use 3rd party firewalls that it’s at least worth mentioning. You’ll need to make sure that GFWLClient.exe is allowed both incoming and outgoing traffic.
Your router configuration can also play a factor in this. If for some reason, you aren’t using UPnP, then this last possible fix may be for you. GFWL (apparently?) uses TCP port 3074, UDP port 88, and UDP port 3074. You’ll need to make sure that those ports (or whatever ports that GFWL uses if this port info isn’t correct) are open if you’ve checked everything else.
This guide has and continues to be tweaked and refined with additional information from me and the Steam community. I’d like to thank everyone who has been open in sharing what they’ve run into when trying to sign-in and helping to centralize this information.
I’d like to mention one more thing for those who run into DLC problems with GFWL games like Fable 3 or those who bought games\DLC on the GFWL Marketplace in the past and can’t see their download history.
