How can I uninstall Microsoft Edge?

I have Windows 10 and generally use another browser (Google Chrome). Every time I try to install Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Bing quickly show up. Now my toolbar looks and functions like Microsoft Edge. Google Chrome Browser attempts to open up then, quickly closes and crashes. This problem seems to be bleeding over to other devices as well. I do use Microsoft Office Home 2016. I’m not ready for 365 yet.

I don’t have any viruses or malware from the system checks.

If you are referring to the new version Microsoft Edge, you may still try to remove it if the update is not yet permanent. Kindly follow the steps below.

1. Click on the Start button and click on Settings (gear icon above the power button).
2. Click on Apps and click on Apps & Features.
3. Navigate on the App list until you see Microsoft Edge.
4. If the Uninstall button is available, you can still uninstall it. But if it’s already greyed out, it means that the update is permanent and can no longer be uninstalled.

But if you are referring to the legacy version of Edge, you won’t be able to remove it since that is the built-in browser of Microsoft Windows 10. Can you please show me what happened to your Google Chrome browser so I can help you out with it.

Thanks for the solution. The uninstall for Microsoft Edge is greyed out. I’m sad that I’m stuck with Edge. Not a fan. My only option is to add Google Chrome as an extension for Edge. My computer is unable to successfully load Google Chrome outside of edge.

I had a Microsoft support person try to assist me but I found that the Windows update didn’t fix the problem to launch Google Chrome independent of Microsoft Edge.

Any other suggestions are welcome. I may have lost the battle though.

Since Microsoft enforces us to have installed the Microsoft Edge, which I believe is in breach of the European directions, will they reinburse us if we uninstall Windows 10 due to that, or provide us with assistance and updates if they want us to return to Windows 7, free of charge?

I believe this action of Microsoft, to have permanently installed a browser software that the user does not want and cannot uninstall, is an infliction upon us that was never apriori mentioned (when we bought the software). I would be very happy to use a Linux operating system, which is also free of charge.

I would appreciate a response that would not include the typical «The Windows 10 Operating System was built around Microsoft Edge». This was a Microsoft desision, after being pushed by EU in their last operating system, to enable the user to decide on their browser of choice.

Furthermore, if I am given the opportunity to get my money back for the 2 licences of Windows 10 that I have, I would also appreciate being given back the money for the Microsoft Office licence that I have, since I will not be able to use it.

So how did you get rid of Microsoft Edge?

I looked up options and help online, but nothing helped.

I want my Internet Explorer back which is need to connect me to important venues. I also use Yahoo

You can still have Internet Explorer. Just open the Start Menu, type Internet Explorer and then pin it to Taskbar. 2nd go to settings, Apps, Default Apps, Web Browser, and make IE your default browser.

You can clean install Windows 7 any time you like. Just be sure to backup all of your important Files and Folders first. As to being not given a chance to uninstall Edge if you received Edge through Windows update you are right- it can’t be uninstalled. If you explain your issues with Edge maybe we could help you solve them.

You need to develop a program similar to windows 7 for people and businesses that don’t have to depend on hieroglyphics to understand what to do.

Eliminate all but the essentials and keep the speeds up. Junk can always be added later IF THE USER WANTS IT.

Поскольку Microsoft Edge — встроенный браузер в Windows 10, удалить его обычным способом система не дает. Для полного удаления Microsoft Edge нужно физически удалить файлы или использовать PowerShell.

Так как браузер является частью Windows 10, его полное удаление может повлечь сбои в работе системы. Альтернативный вариант решения проблемы — использовать маленькую программу Edge Blocker. Эта утилита полностью заглушит всю активность браузера, но при этом нет риска сбоев и есть возможность обратного включения.

Удаление Microsoft Edge через проводник

Самый грубый способ раз и навсегда избавиться от Microsoft Edge — удалить все файлы браузера через проводник. Чтобы Windows 10 позволила удалить файлы, действие нужно проводить в аккаунте администратора.

Зайти в папку C:\Windows\SystemApps. Вместо C:\Windows\ может быть другой адрес, в зависимости от места установки системы.

Найти папку с названием Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge и буквами с цифрами в конце. Цифры на конце не имеют значение и могут отличаться в зависимости от версии сборки. Кликнуть по ней правой кнопкой мыши и перейти в Свойства.

В свойствах установить галочку Только для чтения (применимо только к файлам в папке), нажать Применить и Ок для сохранения изменений. Если галочка уже стояла, то ничего делать не надо.

Удалить файлы MicrosoftEdge.exe и MicrosoftEdgeCP.exe — приложение для запуска браузера перестанет существовать. Если Windows не дает удалить файлы, их можно попросту переименовать (как в примере с .exe на .old) — браузер перестанет запускаться.

Для удаления файлов MicrosoftEdge.exe и MicrosoftEdgeCP.exe может потребоваться разрешение от TrustedInstuller. Удалять все файлы из папки не советуется — могут возникнуть системные ошибки. Удаления EXE-файлов достаточно, чтобы Microsoft Edge больше никогда не запускался.

Удаление при помощи PowerShell

PowerShell — универсальный инструмент, делающий управление Windows 10 гораздо легче. PowerShell позволяет удалять файлы, с которыми не удалось справиться другими методами. В том числе предустановленные «неудаляемые» приложения, в списке которых есть Microsoft Edge.

1. В поиске меню Пуск ввести PowerShell.
2. В «лучшем соответствии» должно появиться Классическое приложение Windows PowerShell. Нужно кликнуть по нему правой кнопкой мыши и Запустить от имени администратора.

В открывшемся окне PowerShell ввести команду Get-AppxPackage. Дождаться появления информации о всех установленных системных приложениях.

Найти в списке приложение с названием (графа Name) Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge.

Найти строку PackageFullName и скопировать полное название версии браузера: что-то типа Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_20.10240.17317_neutral_8wekyb3d8bbwe.

Ввести команду для удаления приложения, подставив свое полное название браузера: Get-AppxPackageMicrosoft.MicrosoftEdge_20.10240.17317_neutral_8wekyb3d8bbwe| Remove-AppxPackage.

После выполнения команды браузер будет деактивирован. Microsoft Edge не будет запускаться как браузер по-умолчанию или включаться в принципе. Системных ошибок после такого метода удаления быть не должно.

Блокировка браузера при помощи EdgeBlocker

EdgeBlocker блокирует любую активность браузера Microsoft Edge. Последняя версия программы — Edge Blocker v1.4. Программа бесплатная, как и все остальные решения от этой команды.

Загрузить EdgeBlocker v1.4 с сайта разработчика (https://www.sordum.org/9312/edge-blocker-v1-4/).

Разработчик предупреждает, что перед использованием программы нужно сделать браузером по-умолчанию какой-нибудь другой браузер. В противном случае Windows будет пытаться по-старому запустить Edge, но сделать этого не сможет, что приведет к системным конфликтам.

Запустить загруженную программу — это один EXE-файл, установка не нужна.

Нажать кнопку Block — работа браузера будет остановлена, программу можно закрывать.

При необходимости можно заново открыть EdgeBlocker и нажать Unblock для снятия блокировки.

Программа не удаляет файлы браузера, а лишь блокирует действие приложения. Включить Edge обратно можно в любое время, открыв Edge Blocker и нажав на кнопку Unblock.
