В последних сборках Windows 10 появилась новая функция «Полноэкранная оптимизация«, направленная на улучшения игр.

При включении этой функции система может оптимизировать производительность игр и приложений, которые работают в режиме полного экрана. Однако, некоторые пользователи заметили, что оптимизация может работать неправильно и не повышает производительность приложения, а наоборот понижает. Если вы наблюдаете побочные эффекты от этой функции, то можно попробовать ее выключить. Как это сделать описано ниже.

Функция Полноэкранной оптимизации появилась в сборках Windows 10 17093 и выше и включена по умолчанию.

Как вы уже знаете, Windows 10 поставляется со специальной функцией режима игры, которая сделана специально для геймеров. Когда он включен, он повышает производительность и приоритет игр. Why you should disable Fullscreen Optimizations on Windows 10

Microsoft wants Windows 10 users to enjoy smooth gaming experiences on their computers.

For this reason, the company has optimized the operating system so as to find the perfect balance between users’ hardware configurations and the system requirements of the games they’re running.

There’s a Windows 10 gaming-oriented feature that’s still pretty controversial among users. It’s called Fullscreen Optimizations and its role is to boost gaming performance and deliver a borderless full screen for you to enjoy your games.

Unfortunately, many reports suggest that, paradoxically, this feature triggers FPS drops.

Windows 10 Full-screen Optimizations: ON or OFF?
Googling around and reading other posts on this sub, it seems like this is a very controversial subject. […] I’ve seen posts saying to most definitely disable it on games like Overwatch and CS:GO.
On the other hand, I’ve seen posts from MSFT engineers and comments expressing how great the feature is and how it’s actually supposed to improve performance slightly.

To use full screen optimizations or not – that is the question

Judging by user reports, it seems that the best solution is to simply disable full screen optimizations. Many gamers described this option as a strange hybrid Fullscreen Exclusive/Borderless display mode that’s not as great as Microsoft says.

Moreover, certain games are particularly affected by low FPS issues when players enable full screen optimizations.

If you often play Overwatch, CS:GO, Sundered, and other CPU demanding games, turning this feature off may actually improve your gaming experience.

Here’s how yo can disable Fullscreen Optimizations:

1. Right-click on the .exe file of your game > go to Properties
2. Go to the compatibility option
3. Check the ‘Disable fullscreen optimizations‘ box> hit Apply.

How to enable or disable Full-screen optimizations on Windows 10

Full-Screen Optimizations is a feature on Windows 10 devices that help them function better. It is enabled by default for applications like video players and games. When this feature is enabled, the gaming or video playback experience is enhanced by prioritizing the CPU and GPU resources for that particular process. But sometimes, it results in a drop in the frame rate (FPS) when in full-screen mode. The solution to fix these frame drops would be to disable these full-screen optimizations. But unfortunately, Microsoft has removed this features for Windows 10 in the recent releases – but there is still a way you can get this done.

Enable or disable Full-screen optimizations

In this guide, we will cover the following ways:

1. Using Windows 10 Settings.
2. Using the Registry Editor.
3. Applicable to a particular set of users.
4. Applicable for all the users.

1] Using Windows 10 Settings

For earlier releases, you can follow this method. This method is not available for releases starting Windows 10 v1803.

Launch the Windows 10 Settings app. Now, navigate to System > Display. Scroll down a bit and click on the Graphics Settings link. This will open the Advanced Graphics settings page.

Under the section labeled as, Fullscreen optimizations, uncheck the option labeled as Enable Fullscreen optimizations to disable the feature.

2] Using the Registry Editor

Hit the WINKEY + R button combination to launch the Run utility, type in regedit and hit Enter. Click on Yes for the UAC or User Account Control Prompt that you get.

Once Registry Editor opens, navigate to the following key location-

Now right click on Explorer. Select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.

Name the newly created DWORD to GameDVR_DSEBehavior and hit Enter to save it.

Double click on the GameDVR_DSEBehavior DWORD and set its value to the following depending on your choice,

• 2: Disable Fullscreen optimizations.
• 0: Enable Fullscreen optimizations.

After you are done setting a value, close the Registry Editor and Reboot your computer for the changes to take effect.

3] Applicable to a particular set of users

Start by locating the main executable file of the application or game for which you need to enable or disable the fullscreen optimizations.

Right-click on the located executable file and click on Properties. Switch the tab labeled as Compatibility. Under the section labeled as Settings.

Check the option labeled as Disable fullscreen optimizations in order to disable the feature and vice versa for the opposite.

Click on Apply and then click on OK for the settings to be applied.

4] Applicable to all the users

Start by locating the main executable file of the application or game for which you need to enable or disable the fullscreen optimizations.

Right-click on the located executable file and click on Properties. Switch the tab labeled as Compatibility.

Click on the button labeled as Change settings for all users on the bottom part of the mini window.

Under the section labeled as Settings.

Check the option labeled as Disable fullscreen optimizations in order to disable the feature and vice versa for the opposite.

Click on Apply and then click on OK for the settings to be applied.

Do you love playing games on your Windows 10? Do you hate experiencing a lag in the game just when you are about to make the kill? Some of my friends have been complaining about how the new Borderless Display Mode, which is enabled by default in Windows 10, is causing the lags.

The new Borderless Display Mode was designed by Microsoft to enable users to change tabs quickly, improve performance, and use Focus Assist easily, all the while playing their favorite games. It replaces the old Fullscreen Exclusive Mode.

Instead of boosting gaming performance, it induces FPS lags for many users. Irony? A setting called Fullscreen Optimizations controls this new mode. When enabled, you will notice your games opening in a hybrid view where it is running in a borderless fullscreen mode. And it’s not just limited to games, I experienced it with a number of Windows apps.

Let’s see how you can disable it.

1. Disable Fullscreen Optimization App-Wise

This method is more suitable for disabling Fullscreen Optimization for a particular game. I would recommend it to Windows 10 users who experience lags while playing FPS games like CS: GO and PUBG. Depending on the make and model of your computer as well as the game settings, disabling the said option can provide you a glitch-free experience.

Launch the file explorer by clicking on My Computer on your desktop or press the CTRL+E keyboard shortcut. You can now locate the folder where the game is installed. By default, it is always in the C drive, but you may have chosen a different folder during installation. Look for the game’s .EXE file that launches it.

I am doing this for Tencent’s PUBG because it lags and fails to open correctly for me. Right-click on the launcher file and select Properties. Alternatively, you can use the ALT+ENTER keyboard shortcut to bring up the file’s properties. Click on the Compatibility tab and click on Disable fullscreen optimizations checkbox. Click on Apply and OK when you are done.

If you are running Windows 10 with more than one user account and want to change fullscreen optimizations settings for all users, then under Compatibility tab, click on Change settings for all users first.

Now, select Disable fullscreen optimizations option and save all settings.

You can do this for any game that is lagging and causing problems in the fullscreen mode. Note that the lag is more evident and frequently reported for apps that are not downloaded and installed from the official Windows 10 store. Now, open the game and check if you are still facing lags and whether the window opens in an exclusive fullscreen mode or not.
