Play in Mini View feature in Windows 10 Movies & TV app

Watching your favorite movie or a TV show while working is now possible on your Windows 10 device. The latest Windows 10 Creators Update brought many functionality improvements and new features including ‘Mini View’.

Mini View feature in Windows 10 Movies & TV app

‘Mini View’ is the new feature in Windows 10 machines which lets the user watch their favorite movies and TV shows in a picture-in-picture mode. The feature currently supports only Movies & TV app and Skype.

Read on to know how to use the Mini View feature on your Windows 10 PC.

• As the feature is available only Movies & TV app, you first need to have this default app on your Windows 10 machine. Open the app on your PC normally.
• Now, when the app is launched, open your preferred media, may it be a TV show or any of the movies. Play the media and go to the control bar appearing at the bottom of your screen.
• In the control bar, you can see a new option next to the full-screen button. This new option is Mini View icon which is also termed as picture-in-picture mode.
• Click on the Mini View icon and the playing media will instantly pin to the top right corner of your screen. Click on the icon again and it will leave the Mini View.

The picture-in-picture mode earlier was available only in the television sets where one channel is displayed on the entire TV screen and at the same time another channel can be viewed in inset windows. Thanks to the Windows Creators Update that we can now avail this feature on our laptops and desktop too.

The Mini View (picture-in-picture mode) brings a level of multitasking on your Windows 10 machines and convert your current media window into a movable small window.

While it is available only for the desktop app Movies & TV, for now, Microsoft assures that it will soon be made available for other apps on your machine.

Windows 10 introduced a mini view in the Creators Update. At present, this mini view works in the Movies & TV app, and in the Groove app. The mini view lets you switch to a smaller player in both these apps. This player is then pinned to the top of your screen. You can watch a movie or listen to a song. Mini view isn’t a restricted to just Microsoft’s own apps. Any developer can add support for it if they want to. Users would no doubt love the feature in apps like Netflix but it hasn’t been added. Compact View is a free Windows app that fills this requirement. It lets you watch YouTube, Hulu, and Neflix in mini view.

Compact View is basically a web wrapper app that supports the mini view. You have to visit the website you want to watch inside this app, and play a video. You can then switch to the mini view.

Watch Netflix In Mini View

Open Compact view. By default, it take you to Netflix. Sign in with your account and select something to watch. Click the compact view button in the title bar to switch to the mini view.

The app will switch to the mini view. You can control playback and move the mini player around like you can with the Movies & TV and Groove app.

Watch YouTube And Hulu In Mini View

To watch YouTube and Hulu, or any other website in mini view, you will need to add it. The process is simple but the UI isn’t very intuitive. To visit a different website, click the URL bar at the top. Enter the URL for a video you want to watch or just visit YouTube, or Hulu. Play a video in full screen and then switch to the mini view.

Compact View will switch to the mini view.

Limitations

Compact View is a nice app in concept. It fulfills a genuine need and the developer has added a few well-thought out features like a dark theme you can switch to from the app’s settings. Unfortunately, while the app’s core feature works flawlessly, it has its bugs. The developer has added support for multiple website containers. You can add them all separately so that you don’t have to type the URL every time you want to watch on a different website. Unfortunately, this feature doesn’t work. You can add multiple websites but you can’t switch to them. You’re basically stuck entering the URL again and again. The settings panel is also a bit buggy to open/close.

Compact View as mentioned earlier is a web wrapper. It’s a kind of browser that can switch to the mini view so you can expect to see a few UI problems when you visit a website e.g., UI elements might overlap each other or render incorrectly. Mini View is a Windows 10 Creators Update feature so the app will not work on older versions of Windows.

The Mini View, as of now, only works for the Windows 10 Universal Apps like Movies & TV app, the Groove app etc. When you enable Mini view for the above mentioned apps, the video player is downgraded to a small size player. You can then pin the mini view video to the top of your screen. One of the most important utility features is multi tasking. If you want to watch YouTube and Hulu in Mini view, then follow the steps:
1. Navigating to a different website isn’t that simple. Click the URL bar at the top.
2. Enter the URL of the video you want to watch. You can simply visit YouTube, or Hulu. Play a video in full screen and then switch to the mini view.

The web app is buggy and may not work everytime as expected. So this is a con despite the utility of the app.

Установка нескольких версий Windows:
Реализованна возможность установки разных версий Windows стандартным установщиком, от 7ки до 10ки, как x86(только mbr) так и x64(mbr и uefi). Для этого вам нужно скопировать файл install.wim(.esd/.swm) нужной версии в соответствующую папку, которая находится в папке sources. Т.е. файл install.wim для Windows 7 x86 кидаем в \MIPE\WIM\win7x86\, для Windows 8.1 x64 кидаем в папку \MIPE\WIM\win81x64\, для Windows 10 x64 в папку \MIPE\WIM\win10x64\. После чего, в меню пуск, появятся пункт Установка Windows и подпункт Windows 7 x86, Windows 8.1 x64 и Windows 10 x64.

Как добавить свои программы:
Для добавления своих программ, кидаем файлы exe в папку \MIPE\TOOLS\, в файле \MIPE\EXLOAD.INI пишем следующее:

Установка
Установка только из под BIOS (есть возможность по UEFI). Ключ для установки не требуется. Активация проходит автоматически во время установки.
К сожалению не все настройки можно сделать во время установки операционной системы по этому на рабочем столе имеется программа «Restart_Desktop», которую нужно запустить обязательно от администратора для завершения настройки системы и только тогда система примет конфигурацию заявленную в описании. Система будет автоматически перезагружена.

После перезагрузки система полностью налажена и готова к работе, а эту программу нужно удалить перетащив её на значок корзины.
Программа «Restart_Desktop» была написана мной специально для этой сборки и как она поведёт себя на других сборках не известно.
