WHAT’S NEW:

This build doesn’t contain any new or exclusive feature. It is basically focused on bug fixes and general improvements. This build might be the actual Fall Update (Threshold2) which is going to release to public later this month.

WHAT’S FIXED:

• [Fixed] Any audio playing (like music from Groove or videos from the Movies & TV app) was getting reduced by 75% for a period of time after a notification pops up from Action Center.
• Pressing the power button on your Surface Pro 3 should put your Surface Pro 3 to sleep instead of shutting it down.
• [Fixed] A disksnapshot.exe command prompt window was flashing randomly.
• Windows should now remember your previous login type. For example, if you log in with a PIN, it will prompt you for a PIN next time instead of another type.
• [Fixed] Tab previews in Microsoft Edge web browser were appearing as black if the page was not scrolled to the top and web note clippings were also appearing as black.
• Small form-factor devices, like the Dell Venue 8 Pro, that boot with rotation or virtual mode screen size set larger than the physical screen size should no longer experience a blue screen on upgrade.
• Apps and games should download from the Store more reliably.

KNOWN ISSUES:

• After upgrading from previous Insider Preview build to a new Insider Preview build, Skype messages and contacts will disappear from the Messaging + Skype app. You can get Skype messages and contacts back by using following workaround:
  • Press WIN+R keys together to open RUN dialog box, type appdata and press Enter. Now go to following folder: Local\Packages\Microsoft.Messaging_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache
  • Now delete or rename the «PrivateTransportId» file.
  • Restart Skype video app and sign out of Skype and sign back in.
• The Insider Hub might be gone after upgrading to this build. You can get Insider Hub back by going to Settings -> System -> Apps & features and then click on «Mange optional features» and choose «Add a feature» and then select Insider Hub.

HOW TO INSTALL:

The new build is available for download via Windows Update, so it’ll be automatically downloaded and installed in all computers running Windows 10 Insider Preview soon.

If you want to manually download and install the new build ASAP, you can do this using following simple steps:

1. Open Settings app from Start Menu.

2. Click on Update and security icon.

3. Once you open Windows Update section, it’ll automatically start checking for new builds. Otherwise you can click on «Check for updates» button.

4. Click on «Download now» button to start downloading the new update build of Windows 10.

After downloading the build, your computer will automatically restart to install the new update.

The download size will be around 2 or 3 GB depending upon the computer architecture (32-bit or 64-bit) and system language.

As a result, the new features in Windows 10, version 1909 were included in the recent monthly quality update for Windows 10, version 1903 (released October 8, 2019), but are currently in a dormant state. These new features will remain dormant until they are turned on using an enablement package, which is a small, quick-to-install “master switch” that simply activates the Windows 10, version 1909 features.

To reflect this change, the release notes for Windows 10, version 1903 and Windows 10, version 1909 will share an update history page. Each release page will contain a list of addressed issues for both 1903 and 1909 versions. Note that the 1909 version will always contain the fixes for 1903; however, 1903 will not contain the fixes for 1909. This page will provide you with the build numbers for both 1909 and 1903 versions so that it will be easier for support to assist you if you encounter issues.

IMPORTANT Starting in July 2020, we will resume non-security releases for Windows 10 and Windows Server, version 1809 and later. There is no change to the cumulative monthly security updates (also referred to as the «B» release or Update Tuesday release). IMPORTANT Starting in July 2020, all Windows Updates will disable the RemoteFX vGPU feature because of a security vulnerability. For more information about the vulnerability, seeCVE-2020-1036 and KB4570006. After you install this update, attempts to start virtual machines (VM) that have RemoteFX vGPU enabled will fail, and messages such as the following will appear:

If you re-enable RemoteFX vGPU, a message similar to the following will appear:

“The virtual machine cannot be started because all the RemoteFX-capable GPUs are disabled in Hyper-V Manager.”

“The virtual machine cannot be started because the server has insufficient GPU resources.”
