Stream music from Android & iPhone to Windows 10 PC via Bluetooth A2DP Sink

If you’ve already upgraded to the latest Windows 10, you can now stream music from your Android, iPhone, and feature phone to your PC’s speakers via Bluetooth. In this post, we will show you how you can stream music from Android & iPhone to Windows 10 PC via Bluetooth A2DP Sink.

Windows 10 version 2004 reintroduces support for remote audio sources and you can configure your PC to behave like a Bluetooth speaker. However, you’ll need an app to manage the Bluetooth A2DP sink function as the feature is currently not available via system settings. An easy-to-use Bluetooth A2DP sink app created by developer Mark Smirnov allows you to listen to music from your phone on your PC speakers or wired headphones. It is available on the Microsoft Store.

Stream music from Phone to PC via Bluetooth A2DP Sink

To stream music from your Android or iPhone to your Windows 10 PC speakers via Bluetooth A2DP Sink, follow these steps:

• Upgrade to Windows 10 version 2004 if you haven’t already.
• Enable Bluetooth on your Windows 10 PC and phone.
• Press the Windows key + I to open Settings.
• Navigate to Devices >Bluetooth & other devices.
• Click on Add Bluetooth or other device and select Bluetooth.
• Choose the phone and follow additional instructions, and pair the device.
• Select Done and your phone will appear in the Bluetooth & other devices page.
• Next, download and install Bluetooth Audio Receiver from Microsoft Store.

After installation, launch the app.

• In the Bluetooth Audio Receiver app, select your mobile device.
• Click on Open connection and you can now stream music from phone to PC speakers.
• If you want to end the session, click on the Close connection button within the application.

The app only allows you to stream media content from your phone to PC speakers and you cannot use it to make or receive calls. If you want to manage calls via Bluetooth, you can use the Microsoft Your Phone app or Dell Mobile Connect.

Bluetooth A2DP Sink

A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) describes how stereo-quality audio can be streamed from a media source to a sink. The audio source is the music player and the audio sink is the wireless headset or wireless stereo speakers.

The profile defines two roles of an audio device: source and sink.

• A2DP Source – A device is the source when it acts as a source of a digital audio stream that is
  delivered to the SINK of the piconet.
• A2DP Sink – A device is the sink when it acts as a sink of a digital audio stream delivered from the
  SOURCE on the same piconet.

A2DP defines the protocols and procedures that realize the distribution of audio content of high-quality in mono or stereo on ACL channels.

A2DP profile includes mandatory support for low complexity sub-band codec (SBC) and supports optionally MPEG-1,2 Audio, MPEG-2,4 AAC, ATRAC or other codecs.

With Windows 10 version 2004, Microsoft has restored the A2DP Sink for Bluetooth in Windows 10. It was removed in Windows 8, making Windows 7 the last OS version with A2DP Sink support. Now, things has changed, and it is finally possible to use A2DP for Bluetooth in Windows 10.

In Windows 7 pre-release versions, A2DP source and sink roles were supported natively but this was dropped in the final RTM release version. In the release version of Windows 7, your PC could connect to Bluetooth speakers (act as A2DP source) but additionally, drivers could enable the audio device to work as A2DP sink if supported by the audio hardware vendor.

Starting from Windows 8, the A2DP Sink role is not supported by Microsoft, nor by third party drivers. Microsoft provides native support for Bluetooth audio streaming as A2DP source only.

In Windows 10 versions released before Windows 10 May 2020 Update, Microsoft had implemented support for the A2DP source role, but not for the SINK role for desktop editions. This means you could use Intel Bluetooth on Windows 10 to send audio to other Bluetooth devices, such as a speaker, but you wasn’t be able to receive audio from other Bluetooth devices via A2DP.

Starting in Windows 10 version 2004, Microsoft has re-added the SINK role to Windows 10 for upcoming versions of the OS. However, to use the feature, you need to install a third party app, as the OS lacks the user interface to activate the SINK role.

To Enable and Use A2DP Sink for Bluetooth in Windows 10,

1. Pair your audio source device, e,g, your Android smartphone.
2. Now, open Microsoft Store and install this app: Bluetooth Audio Receiver .
3. Open the app once installed.
4. The app will list connected audio devices. Select the one you want to receive audio via Bluetooth from.
5. Click on the Open Connection button.

You are done. This way, you can use your PC or laptop for casting an audio stream from any Bluetooth source that supports A2DP.

If it’s not working in Android Phone Turn off Developer option.

Doesn’t work. Windows 10 Pro 20H2, build 19042.804.

Bluetooth connects to phone fine, shows connection on both this app and Windows “Your Phone” app. Audio will run on phone, but no sound output through PC.

Windows 10 версия 2004 обратно стала поддерживать «remote audio sources«, что позволяет настроить компьютер или ноутбук как динамик Bluetooth. Это значит, что вы можете транслировать музыку с вашего телефона на Android или iPhone на динамики вашего компьютера через Bluetooth A2DP Sink. Есть один нюанс. Пока что в Windows 10 нет встроенный функции A2DP Sink в параметрах, со временем добавят и я обновлю руководство, но мы воспользуемся приложением, которое позволит нам слушать музыку на компьютере через телефон по блютуз.

Слушать музыку на ПК через телефон по Bluetooth

1. В первую очередь вы должны сделать сопряжение телефона Android или IOS с Windows 10 по Bluetooth.

2. Перейдите в Mcirosoft Store и загрузите специальное приложение Bluetooth Audio Receiver для Windows 10. Версия ОС должна быть не ниже 2004.

3. Запустите приложение и нажмите «Open Connection«, чтобы законнектиться приложению с телефоном. Далее включите музыку на телефоне и динамики вашего компьютера или ноутбука будут воспроизводить поток.

Важно: Выключите «Close Connection», когда не используете потоковую передачу. У меня на ПК был переносной USB Bluetooth и я его резко вытянул, что привело к синему экрану BSOD. Не повторяйте мою ошибку.
