Hello I am hoping for some help. I have had this HP Pavillion p6516fb Since July 2010. In March I had to have the motherboard replaced. Fortunately I had an extended warranty from staples. I thought all was well until this Monday. I logged in to the machine to find the error message that my copy of Windows was not Genuine. I know this is a oem installed version and I went to HP for help but they wanted to charge me more than it would cost to buy a new version of Window. Also I still had warranty coverage with Staples but they wanted to reinstall windows to factory settings and that would mean a lot of time to reinstall all needed software. This machine is an office machine and has business software as well as financial. I was hoping to maybe do a repair but no one seems to think that can be done with an oem version. So I started looking around and found that quite a few people have dealt with this issue. I am working with Win 7 service pack 1. I have the activation code but it will not register as a legitimate code. I ran some test including the win advantage and this is the result. I have also done a disk check, run Malwarebytes and my antivirus. I am hoping someone can help because I am waiting on Staple’s 3rd party vendor to see if they can do anything other than a full re-install. Thanks — Oh I can’t call Microsoft for phone verification. Tried that but no option since it is oem install.
