Question
It has taken me all day yesterday, all night and until now to work out how to remove this bloody inconvenience, i tried to the whole putting the ‘copy to’ and ‘move to’ which didn’t work with 7, also i found another registry that puts a ‘gain full access’ as well which also gave no luck. I was realy sure you could do it with the permissions so i spent the whole night working it out.
This is what you have to do:
Right Click on your ‘C drive’ and go to ‘Properties’. (here we are going to remove any permissions that were installed by the windows install)
Click the ‘Security’ tab at the top and then ‘Advanced’ at the bottom of that tab
Then go to the ‘Owner’ tab, at the bottom of the tab click on the ‘Edit’ button.
In the new window that appears click on the user name you have created for your login, however make sure it isn’t the one that has administrator after it.
Once you have selected the user at the bottom there should be a select option to ‘Replace owner on subcontainers and objects.’ You want to SELECT this option.
Once selected click apply and wait for the box to finish loading.
Ok now click ok, and come out of all the windows that have been opened. (to save confusion)
Once again right click on your C drive and go to ‘Properties’
Then go to the ‘Security’ tab.
At the bottom click on ‘Advanced’
Now you should automatically be on the ‘Permissions’ page, if so click ‘Change Permissions’
Then in this new window what you want to do is to ‘Remove’ all things here APART FROM the one that says ‘Administrators/yourusernamehere’
Once this is the only profile left click on it and then click on the ‘Edit’ button below.
‘Permissions entry for local disk (C:)’ should appear, ok now click on ‘Full Control’ and then click ‘OK’
Then it will take you back to the permissions page where you deleted the other profiles, select the profile you just gave ‘Full Access’ too, tick the box underneath that says ‘Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object’
Then click ‘Apply’ and wait for it to load through your C drive if your like me and have only just installed 7 it shouldn’t take too long.
Now what you need to do with some of the folder you may see a lock that appears, for some reason they have used the ‘Sharing’ feature like it is someone on a network in an office, so you can only access certain things, well if its your pc then you should be able to do what you likek with it.
With some of the folders you can just right click and then select homeusers etc, with others you will need to go into ‘Advanced Sharing’ and then give full access to people you share with to be able to move/delete/edit the folder and things within it.
Another thing you will want to do is type UAC in the start bar search and then pull the bar to the bottom and apply.
Now you should be able to do what you like with your C drive. Hope this helps other people!! If anyone has any questions or i wasn’t clear please let me know 🙂

How to restore default security permissions for C drive
I messed with the Security settings in the proprieties of my C drive. First I denied myself access to it by mistake. Then I managed to give every user full access somehow. Since stuff wasn’t working right I messed with the drive owner a bunch of times and got a ton of errors and warnings in the process, all of which I’ve ignored.
I also reset Windows a couple of times. But selecting the option to keep my files also kept the weird settings I’ve made for the C drive, so that didn’t work.
Tried some SubInACL solutions that I found online, those didn’t work either. I’m getting a lot of ‘access is denied’ errors even though every user has full permissions according to my settings.
Now, while I can access my files just fine, apps like Edge and Mail aren’t opening up and the system just doesn’t feel solid.
Anyway, I’m super aware that I messed up big time. Is there any way to reset these permissions to their defaults? Maybe like a trusty third party tool?
Or maybe there’s a way to reset all windows settings somehow, but without deleting my files?
Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.
I understand you concern in this regard.
In Windows, access control lists (ACLs) give you extremely fine control over the ability of users and processes to use resources such as files and folders. Managing ACLs can be one of the more complicated tasks related to protecting the security of your users’ systems.
Suggest you to try the below mentioned steps and check if it helps.
Open the properties of the main User Profile (I.e. C:\Users\. ) folder where the files are located (such as Documents, Pictures, etc.). You can open the properties of a particular folder by Right-clicking on it and select Properties from context menu.
Go to the Security tab and click Advanced.
Check the box at the bottom of this window. It is labeled «Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object» and then click Ok.
This action will replaces the security permission on all the files/subfolders. It’s one-time, so you won’t find that box checked if you peek at it later. Please let us know if it’s working
Do refer the article on Back Up and Restore NTFS and Share Permissions and see if it helps you.
Warning: Some steps in the article tell you to modify registry. Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

c drive not accessible , administrator permission required ;
c drive is not accessible, locked c drive from properties>security> denied all permissions:
can anyone help.
Are you the administrator on the computer?
First, boot into safe mode.
Steps to boot the computer in safe mode:
1. Restart your computer if it is powered on.
2. Tap the F8 key after your computer initially powers on.
3. Once you see the Advanced Boot Options menu you can stop tapping.
4. Use the up/down arrow keys to highlight your selection.
5. Select Safe Mode and press Enter.
6. You should see drivers loading, and then please wait.
7. You should then be at the Welcome Screen.
8. Logon to your computer using an account with Administrator privileges.
Follow these steps in safe mode to grant yourself full permission to access the drive:
You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps
1. Click on start and then click on computer.
2. Right click on C drive and click Properties, and then click the Security tab.
3. Click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.
4. Click Edit, and then do one of the following:
· To change the owner to a user or group that is not listed, click Other users and groups and, in Enter the object name to select (examples), type the name
of the user or group, and then click OK.
· To change the owner to a user or group that is listed, in the Change owner to box, click the new owner.
5. If you want to take ownership of the contents of the folder, select the Replace owner on sub containers and objects check box.
6. Click OK, and then click Yes when you receive the following message:
You do not have permission to read the contents of directory folder name. Do you want to replace the directory permissions with permissions granting you Full Control?
7. Click yes.
All permissions will be replaced if you click yes.
NOTE:
-> An administrator can take ownership of any file on the computer.
-> Assigning ownership of a file or a folder might require you to elevate your permissions using User Access Control.
