I’m trying to install MATLAB but every time I initiate the installation there is «command line option syntax error» for Microsoft visual C++ 2005 Redistributable. I have installed » Microsoft visual C++ 2005 Redistributable» but still this error continues. I have also modified variable value but still problem continues. I am facing above problem since 1709 update of windows 10.

Error message when you try to install an application on a Windows Vista SP1-based or Windows 7 computer: «Command line option syntax error.»

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario.

You are running a Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3), Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) or a Windows 7 based computer

You use a user name that includes a double-byte character set (DBCS) character.

When you try to install an application that uses the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package, you receive the following error message:

Command line option syntax error. Type command/? For help.

This problem occurs because the Win32 Cabinet Self-Extractor tool cannot handle the DBCS characters in the user name.

Let me fix it myself

Click Start, right-click Computer, and then click Properties.

In the Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings area, click Change settings.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.

Click Change Settings and then selct the Advanced tab. Click on the Environment variables button

In the User variables area, click TEMP, and then click Edit.

In the Variable value box, type C:\Temp, and then click OK two times.

Click Apply, and then click OK.

Follow steps 4 through 6 for the TMP environment variable as well.

Confirm that C:\Temp folder exists, if not create one.

Restart the computer.

Attempt to install the application again.

1. What is the make and model of the computer?

2. Are you trying to install Bluetooth driver update from Windows update or manually from manufacturer website?

I see that you have checked Temp Settings if you have not tried these steps, I would suggest you to perform the steps and check if this fixes the issue:

a. Press “Windows key + W ” from the keyboard.

b. Type “System ” without quotes in the search box.

c. Select “System ” from the left panel.

d. Under “Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings” section, click “Change settings ”.

I would appreciate if you could answer the following questions to help you better.

1) Have you made any recent hardware or software changes to your computer prior to the issue?

2) Have you been able to install other applications successfully?

IMPORTANT : If you have installed previous pre-release versions of Visual C++ 2005 or Visual Studio 2005, such as Beta 1, Beta 2 or Community Technical Preview (CTP) builds, then you must uninstall these versions via Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel before installing the final released version.

Method 1: Install the latest version of the Microsoft Visual C++

To check the latest supported versions of Visual C++

Method 2: I would suggest you to perform the Clean Boot and install the Autodesk Revit 2013 and see if it works.

Perform Clean Boot.

To help troubleshoot error messages and other issues, you can start Windows 8 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a «clean boot.» A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Important : Reset the computer to start as usual.
