Windows10 crashing after update
I bought win10 last August when I finally accepted XP was not that usefull. But. I have had to re-install Win10 like 4 times this far. It fights with my graphics card.
I really don’t care what your problem is with NVIDIA, but if I pay for the 10, I want the operating system to work.
After some update this June the 10 just shows me th BSoD with codes 0xc0000225 at first and after a clean install 0xc000021a. I can re-install the 10 but after updates it does the BSoD again.
I really don’t want to re-install my operating system every month. And if you cannot deliver an operating system for older hardware, don’t shut down the working OSs. I don’t want to trash my computer (working just fine) just because the industry wants more profit.
I would like to ask the guys doing the coding, why? What can I do? Is there an option to only install the driver for the graphics without windows updates?

HI Susanna. I’m Greg, an installation specialist and 9 year Windows MVP, here to help you.
Check for a newer Display driver on the PC or Display adapter Support Downloads webpage. While there check if there are other newer drivers to Update, including BIOS, Chipset, Sound, Network, USB3, Bluetooth and all others. Compare to the one present installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu.. You can take your time until they are all updated.
If there is no newer Update then check for what’s available from Nvidia using their driver updater here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Scan.aspx?lang=e.
There is a known issue of incorrect Display driver being pushed by Windows Update which requires rolling back the driver. Right click Start to open Device Manager, choose Display device, then Driver tab, then Roll back.
If there is no Roll Back or that doesn’t help choose Update Driver on Display device Driver tab, then Browse Computer, then Let Me Pick to see a list of all previously installed Display drivers, work backwards trying each to find one that works.
If necessary you can also go to Settings>Update & Security>Windows Update to look for the driver under Installed Updates and Uninstall it form link there. Then you can hide the driver so it isn’t pushed again using the Hide Updates tool downloaded from here: http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2/2/f2.
If none of those work try to System Restore to a point before the problem began: http://home.bt.com/tech-gadgets/computing/how-t. . Make sure System Restore is always enabled for C with plenty of disk space apportioned (5-10%) in its Configuration settings.
I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it’s resolved.

Reinstall windows 10 after crash during update
A few weeks ago during a windows update the power went out at my home (someone hit a pole in the area) and now my computer won’t boot up. I checked my hard drive and it still functions properly but I believe that my Windows 10 files have become corrupted or something. I can access BIOS and have created installation media from another computer but it seems to get stuck while trying to reinstall or repair. Is there something more I need to do?

Hi Andrew, you can reinstall Windows 10 at any time and it will not cost you anything !
Then, Boot your PC from the Installation Media you just created (change Boot Order in your BIOS) to begin installing Windows 10
If you have problems booting from a boot disc, you may have UEFI BIOS:
Insert the Bootable Installation Media, then go into your BIOS and make the following changes:
1. Disable Secure Boot
2. Enable Legacy Boot
3. If Available enable CSM
4. If Required enable USB Boot
5. Move the device with the bootable disc to the top of the boot order
6. Save BIOS changes, restart your System and it should boot from the Installation Media
Since you previously had Windows 10 installed and activated on that PC during the installation process skip the steps which ask for a product key and select the option ‘I am Reinstalling Windows 10 on this PC’, and activation will not be an issue, your PC will have a digital entitlement stored on the Microsoft Activation Servers
Make sure you install the same Edition of Windows 10 (Home, Pro . . . etc.) you previously had installed to avoid Activation issues

When you upgraded from a previous version of Windows or receive a new computer preinstalled with Windows 10, what happened is the hardware (your PC) will get a digital entitlement, where a unique signature of the computer will be stored on Microsoft Activation Servers. The Windows 7 or Windows 8 genuine license you were previously running will be exchanged for a diagnostics key.
Anytime you need to reinstall Windows 10 on that machine, just proceed to reinstall Windows 10. It will automatically reactivate. You will prompted to enter a product key a couple times through the installation, click I don’t have a key and Do this later.
There is no need to know or get a new key, but if you have issues with Digital Licensing or the Activation Troubleshooter, you can utilize an existing Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 product key you already own to reactivate if necessary. or use the reset function in Windows 10.
Go to a working computer, download, create a bootable copy, then perform a clean install.
Step 1: How to download official Windows 10 ISO files
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki.
Review the following guide for instructions and details about configuring your BIOS or UEFI boot settings for DVD, CD, USB or SD Card.
a
BIOS/UEFI Setup Guide: Boot from a CD, DVD, USB Drive or SD Card
https://www.groovypost.com/howto/bios-uefi-setu.
Once your computer is set to boot from the DVD, you should see this option. If you are installing from a retail Windows 10 USB thumb drive, you will be asked to select either 32 or 64 bit Windows 10. Learn more here https://www.groovypost.com/howto/choose-windows.
The Windows logo will appear on screen, this might be here for a while, as long as you see the animating dots, everything should be ok.
Select your Language, Time and Keyboard method then click Next.
Click Install now
Windows 10 setup will prompt you for a product key during installation a couple times. If you originally upgraded from Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 click the option ‘I don’t have a key’ and ‘Do this later’ . If you have a Windows 10 product key, you can proceed to enter it.
Setup will also prompt you to select the edition you have a license for — Home or Pro. Please make sure you choose the right edition. If you choose the wrong edition, your only option will be to perform a clean install again.
The copy of Windows 10 you download and upgrade from will correspond with the edition of Windows you have installed, if it does not, this is why you might be experiencing problems activating:
Windows 7 Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Windows 8.0 Core, Windows 8.1 Core should install Windows 10 Home
Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 8.0 Pro, Windows 8.1 Pro should install Windows 10 Pro
Wait while setup prepares to copy files
Accept the license terms then click Next
Click Custom: Install Windows only (advanced)
NOTE: Sometimes Windows 10 setup can become confused if it see’s a thumb drive. You might get a driver missing error or something to that effect. If you do, restart setup, but this time, when you arrive at the following screen, disconnect your thumb drive then go through Custom options. When setup is ready copy files, it will prompt you to reconnect the installation source (your USB).
Select the drive then click New
NOTE: If you have multiple partitions listed, select each one (starting at the bottom), then click delete until there is only a single (one) unallocated drive displayed in the window.
Select the unallocated drive listed, click New, click Apply then OK
This will split the drive into multiple partitions, select the Primary partition then click Next.
NOTE: The System Reserved partition is where recovery files are kept for diagnostics and repairing damaged Windows 10 files; or even reinstall Windows 10.
Wait while Windows installs
When this phase of setup is complete, Windows will automatically restart then reboot into setup again.
Windows is detecting and installing your hardware. After this is complete, Windows will restart one last time.

Several programs crash after updating windows 10
Hi, I recently update windows and since then several programs crash at launch. I get the same error described in this thread (when I launch battle.net for instance):
If I start my windows image in vm-ware, I get a BSOD on my host and my computer restarts. I deleted the update and the problem is gone. The problem is that windows wants me to update and whenever I do that, it keeps crashing again. Can someone help me?

Applications crash after updates on Windows 10

If you recently updated from one version of Windows to another, it’s possible that the current video and graphics card driver is for the previous version of Windows. An outdated driver might cause issues with your device and apps performance. For us to troubleshoot your issue with apps that are crashing, here are the things that we can perform:
- Update your video and graphics card driver. This will help your drivers to be updated and compatible with your system. To do so, refer to the steps provided on this link. If Windows doesn’t find a new driver, you can try checking for one on your device manufacturer’s website.
- Perform a clean boot in Windows. In a clean environment, Windows is using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This is designed to eliminate software conflicts that occur on your computer. To do so, refer to the steps provided on this link and check the «How to perform a clean boot» section. If the issue doesn’t occur, it means that there are system processes or application that’s causing software conflicts. Afterwards, check the «How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting» section to start your device normally.
- Create a new user account. This will help us isolate if your account is corrupted. Refer to this link for the steps on how to create a new account.
Feel free to post back if you need further assistance.
