Windows 10 — All Browsers Crashing (No Specific Errors) & Java IDEs Crashing

I have an ongoing issue with my laptop where each one of my browsers crash intermittently. This problem has been coming up with Chrome, Firefox and with Opera. It also doesn’t show any specific error messages, the only thing that comes up is the default pop up that let’s you know that the browser has stopped working. I have attempted updating my Windows installation and I also have attempted reimaging the laptop some four times already, however the problem keeps coming up again. I have attempted running a spyware scanner and used CC Cleaner to clean out my registry as well.

There is also a second problem with my Java IDEs, I am not sure if the two are somehow related but this problem has been coming up as well. It’s a slew of several different error messages that change each time and random crashing, this happens with IntelliJ, NetBeans and with Eclipse. This problem followed me across each Windows reimage and I have reinstalled Java multiple times, tried different versions and done the same with the JDK install. I have also set the Java file path properly and have had similar issues with Android Studio.

I am not sure what might be going on with my laptop, if anyone has any input it would be highly appreciated. Normal browser maintenance and updates don’t seem to help with this and neither did wiping my partitions and reinstalling Windows 10 from scratch. For a while I believed that there might be something wrong with the RAM on my laptop however the memory diagnostic came back as healthy.

  • What were the recent changes made on your computer before you experienced this issue?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far on your end?
  • What are the anti-virus programs you’re using?
  • What is the exact make and model of your computer?
  • Can you create a new user profile and test if the issue will still happen in the new user profile?

Note: If you have other anti-viruses installed on your computer, disable them all completely and enable Windows Defender only. This could get your programs to a conflict with your operating system’s own security features.

If the issue persists can you provide the following information which may help determine any issue(s):

Windows Key + R > type msinfo32 in the «Open» box > OK > File > Save > then save as an .nfo file

Then make the resulting .nfo file available via a public folder on OneDrive or similar site.

Also, can you do the following:

Windows Key + R > type eventvwr in the «Open» box > OK > expand «Custom Views» and then right-click «Administrative Events» > select «Save all events in Custom View As» and save as an .evtx file

Then make the resulting .evtx file available via a public folder on OneDrive or similar site.

The Event Logs show various Application errors many of which seem to suggest a potential issue with graphics.

The Event Logs also show some blue screen errors have occurred.

It may help to look at the minidump files from these blue screen crashes.

Can you zip up the minidump files in the C:\Windows\Minidump folder and make available (provide link) via OneDrive.

If you have problems zipping the minidump files copy the minidump files to another location such as a folder on the Desktop.

A) I have version 1803 (OS Build 17134.285)

B) I do remember using Microsoft Edge and it didn’t seem to crash at the time.

C) Recently I haven’t done much with the laptop, I bought it back in January and I started seeing my browser crash after installing Visual Studio. I tried basic browser maintenance but the issue didn’t seem to resolve itself so I reimaged the laptop because I needed it for school. While at school we needed to install the IntelliJ IDE however I had an assortment of problems with it. The IDE would crash on startup and each time a different error message would come up, I also tried reinstall the IDE but sometimes it would install and other times it would crash on install. The same problem occurred with other Java IDEs like Eclipse which made me think it was a Java issue or something with my JDK, however reinstalling those didn’t help either. Following one of the reimages I noticed that the browser would crash right away, I was using Google Chrome at the time. The install for IntelliJ crashed as well.

D) The troubleshooting that I have done includes: Multiple reimages, multiple reinstalls of Java and JDK (tried different versions), browser maintenance, updates, virus scans, reboots.

E) The one anti virus application that I use is Super Anti Spyware, I haven’t used anything else aside from that.

F) The laptop is a Samsung ATIV Book 9 Pro 15.6″.

G) Would recreating the profile help even after a reimage? I was installing a couple of tools for my job so I was asking because I would have to reinstall everything.

Thank you for getting back to me so soon about this, I tried to compress the Mindidump folder however it’s empty for some reason. The folder is there inside the Windows directory however there are no log files inside it, it’s just empty.

I do remember seeing a couple of BSOD screens, this made me believe that there might be an issue with my RAM however all the status checks came back as healthy. There were also a couple of video games that I had which crashed, which makes me think that it might a graphics issue as well. The laptop came with a NVIDIA GTX 950M onboard and I installed the most recent drivers after reimaging the laptop.

Make sure CCleaner is not set up to delete dump files.

Also, can you try a «clean boot» and see if it helps any with the issues:

If a clean boot does resolve the issue there is a section in the article «How to determine what is causing the problem by performing a clean boot».

Reset the computer to start normally afterward.

As a general precaution create a System Restore Point prior to initiating a clean boot.

Windows 10 Crashing Issues [FIXED] – 2020 Guide

When you’re listening to music or focusing on your deadline work, your Windows 10 computer crashes, and you don’t know what you’ve done to cause the crash. This would be so frustrating.

Why is Windows 10 crashing? There are carious causes for this problem, such as corrupted files or hardware faulty. But don’t panic! There are workarounds to fix the problem. Before throwing your computer out of the window, try these solutions.

7 Fixes for Windows 10 Crashing Issues

Here are the solutions that have helped people resolved the crashing issues. You shouldn’t have to try them all; just work your way down the list until everything’s working again.

Fix 1: Disconnect external devices

If you’ve connected any external device to your computer, it’s possible to cause the Windows system crash, because there may be a problem of the communication between your device and the Windows 10 system.

You should unplug or disconnect the external devices, such as headset, Bluetooth, SSD, then restart your computer to see if it fixes the Windows 10 crashing issue.

If your computer stops crashing, you should have resolved your problem. Then you can connect the external device once a time, and reboot your computer, in order to locate the cause.

The PCI Express option Link State Power Management is a part of the PCI-E Specification, and it works with the active state power management. It’s possible that something is wrong with the power management in your computer, so you should turn off Link State Power Management. Here’s how to do it:

1) Type Control Panel from the search box on your desktop, and click Control Panel to open it.

2) Click Power Options (be sure to view Control Panel bysmall icons or large icons).

3) Click Change plan settings for whichever power plan you have selected. In my case I click Change plan settings for High Performance.

4) Click Change advanced power settings.

5) Scroll down and double click PCI Express to expand it.

6) Double click Link State Power Management, and change its statue to Off.

7) Click Apply and OK to save the settings.

Restart your computer and it should fix the Windows 10 crashing issue.

Fix 3: Update available drivers

A missing or outdated driver in your computer can cause your system crashing, so you should keep the drivers in your computer up to date, and update those that are out of date.

There are two ways to update drivers: manually and automatically.

Manually update the driver: you can go the manufacturer’s website of your hardware device, find the latest driver that is compatible with your operating system, then download and install it in your computer. This requires time and computer skills.

Automatically update the driver: if you don’t have time or patience, you can do it automatically with Driver Easy.

1) Type cmd in the search box on your desktop. Right-click Command Prompt (or cmd if you’re using Windows 7) to select Run as administrator, and then click Yes to verify UAC.

2) Once you see the command prompt, type sfc /scannow and press Enter.

3) Windows will now verify the system files, and automatically fix any issues.

4) Once verification is complete, exit the Command Prompt and try to launch the program that was giving you the error.

If Windows 10 still crashes, don’t worry. We have something else to try.

Fix 5: Check malware and virus

If your Windows 10 computer is infected with malware or virus, the virus will crash your computer every now and then. So it’s necessary to run a full scan through the system.

Unfortunately, Windows defender alone may not be enough, so you should also try a third party antivirus program, like McAfee or Norton.

If any problem has been detected, follow the instructions provided by the antivirus program to fix the problem. Then restart your computer.

Fix 6: Disable fast startup

The fast startup feature enabled can cause your Windows 10 computer crashing, so make sure to disable fast startup. To do so:

1) Type Control Panel from the search box on your desktop, and click Control Panel to open it.

Fix 7: Restore to previous state

If you’ve recently installed a new application or program, or if you’ve upgraded Windows system, it’s likely to cause the Windows 10 crashing issue. So you can roll back to the previous state.

Way 1: Uninstall the programs that are recently installed

If you’ve installed new programs or applications, uninstall them.

1) On your keyboard, press the Windows logo keyand R at the same time to invoke the Run box.

2) Type appwiz.cpl and click OK.

3) Select the program/application that you recently installed, and Uninstall it.

Way 2: Perform a system restore

You can resolve Windows 10 crashing by restoring your system to a previous state. To do so, you should use the System Restore feature.

1) Type recovery in the search box on your desktop, and click Recovery in the list of results.

2) Click Open System Restore.

3) Click Choose a different restore point, and select the restore point before the system crash occurs.

Follow the on-screen instructions to finish the restore.
