Icon Changer — заменяем системные иконки в Windows 10

Утилита очень проста в обращении: достаточно запустить её от имени администратора, выбрать нужный набор иконок из списка и воспользоваться кнопкой «Patch» для старта процесса замены иконок. Кнопка «Restore» пригодится для возврата к параметрам по-умолчанию.

В комплекте с Icon Changer поставляется один набор иконок, стандартных для Windows 7, но при желании пользователь может использовать и собственные значки. Для этого нужно собрать их в одной папке, присвоить каждой иконке имя по образцу поставляемого в комплекте набора и поместить всё это дело в папку Icon Changer\Resources.

Распространяется Icon Changer бесплатно, установки не требует. Программа создавалась автором только для Windows 10, работоспособность в других операционных системах не гарантируется.

Внимание! Программа редактирует системные файлы и поэтому перед её запуском мы рекомендуем создать точку восстановления системы. Неопытным пользователям Windows лучше отказаться от использования подобного рода утилит.

Drive Icon Changer helps you customize your hard drive icon shown in My Computer and Windows Explorer to an icon of your personal choice.

To change the icon, simply select the drive from the drop-down menu of which you want to change the icon. Then browse to the location of the icon you desire and click “Save”.

Drive Icon Changer was originally designed for Windows Vista and later, however, we were able to run it as Administrator and successfully change our icons in Windows 10. See screenshot 3 for the thumb drive icon for my C:\ drive in Windows 10.

How to Change your Drive Icon in Vista

Drive Icon Changer helps you customize your hard drive icon shown in My Computer and Windows Explorer to an icon of your personal choice. Like Turn Off LCD, I developed this little tool in C# using Visual Studio 2008 to change drive icons on the fly. It just takes a couple of clicks to customize the icon to your personal choice.

To change the icon, simply select the drive from the drop-down menu of which you want to change the icon. Then browse to the location of the icon you desire and click “Save”.

NOTE: If you want to change the icon of the drive on which Windows Vista is installed then you will need to run the program as Administrator.
Right-click -> “Run as administrator”.

Voila! you are done. You will need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect. You can always go back to the original default icon of your drive by clicking on “Restore Default”.

Now lets take a look at what this app does under the hood: It creates a file named “Autorun.inf” and makes a copy of your selected icon in the root of the drive.

Contents of Autorun.inf:

[autorun]
ICON=[path of your icon]

Both of these files are set to hidden. You can see these files by enabling “Show hidden files and folders” in “Folder Options”.

Of course you can change the icons manually too by creating an *.inf yourself and then adding those lines etc. but with this application, you can change the icon and then can restore back to the original all with just a couple of clicks.

Here is how it looks after you have customized your drives with the icons of your choice. Looks cool isn’t it?

2 Ways To Change Drive Icons In Windows 10

Not all users like the new File Explorer drive icons in Windows 10. Many users want to change the default drive icons of the File Explorer to something that they like.

Luckily, changing the File Explorer drive icons is an easy job in Windows 10. You can get it done with and without the help of third-party software.

In this guide, we will show you how to change the File Explorer drive icons in Windows 10 with and without the help of third-party icons.

Method 1 of 2

Change the drive icon manually in Windows 10

Use this manual method if you don’t like to use a third-party application for the job. This method is easy as well.

Step 1: Copy and paste the icon file that you want to set as the drive icon to the root of the drive whose drive icon you want to change. That is, for instance, if you want to change the drive icon of the “C” drive, copy and paste the icon to C:\.

Remember that the new drive icon file must be in .ico format. If not, use an online converter (there are many) to convert to the icon file to the .ico file.

Step 2: Now that the new icon file is at the root of the drive, copy and paste the following code into the Notepad, click Save as, and then save it as autorun.inf at the root of the drive whose icon you desire to change. Be sure to save it as autorun.inf file.

In the above code, replace the Drive.ico with the actual name of the icon file that you have saved at the root of the drive.

Step 3: Reboot your computer to see the new icon.

If you want to set the new icon for all drives, repeat the above steps for all drives.

To restore the original icons, delete autorun.inf and the drive icon from the root of the drive and then restart your computer.

Method 2 of 2

Change drive icons with Drive Icon Changer

Drive Icon Changer is a little utility designed to enable Windows 10 users to change the File Explorer drive icons with ease. The utility comes with a bunch of cool, free drive icons as well.

Select the drive of which you want to change the icon and then select the icon file. Click the Save button to apply the new drive icon. You need to restart your PC once to see the new icon. If you get the old icon even after the PC restart, rebuild the icon cache.

Note that the icon file must be in .ico format. Needless to say that the tool creates an autorun.inf at the root of the selected drive, and saves the selected icon at the same location.
