Sometimes there are applications that have disabled objects that you cannot access, such as buttons and menus. They’ll appear grayed-out to indicate you cannot click on them.

In many cases, this is probably a good thing because it means a certain action or circumstance does not exist yet. However, there will be cases where you need to access these grayed-out objects. The only way to enable them is to use an object enabler tool like Winabler.

This tool is not complex to use at all. It is simply designed to activate grayed-out objects, such as menus and buttons, in certain applications that support it. Successfully enabling objects is not always guaranteed, but it can happen. Why not give it a try? It won’t hurt anything if you do.

Capturing and Accessing Menus with Winabler

If you’re using an application with an inaccessible menu, then you could possibly activate the menu if Winabler supports the application. When you open the Winabler program, it shows you a window with a list of other windows and their menus. You can simply choose which menu you want to enable. This will capture the menu.

Как правило, такие программы устанавливаются в Windows в отдельную папку \Program Files (x86) и их запуск осуществляется в 32-разрядном режиме.

Если в процессе запуска программа выдает ошибку или вообще не запускается, а в Windows 32 bit она работала без проблем, есть шанс запустить ее в специальном режиме, который разработчики назвали «Режим совместимости».

Для этого в Windows 7 щелкните правой кнопкой мыши на ярлыке нужной программы, а затем выберите в контекстном меню «Свойства». В открывшемся окне перейдите на вкладку «Совместимость» и установите флажок «Запустить программу в режиме совместимости с …» и в выпадающем списке укажите вариант системы для запуска.
Нажмите кнопку «OK». После этого попробуйте запустить вашу программу.

Кроме того, в контекстном меню Проводника также имеет смысл попытаться автоматически решить задачу, кликнув по строке «Исправление неполадок совместимости» — в Windows 7.

В Windows 10 при настройке запуска в совместимом режиме на вкладке «Совместимость» имеется отдельная кнопка «Запустить средство устранения проблем с совместимостью». После чего вам предложат либо использовать рекомендованные параметры, либо провести диагностику программы.

Если и после этого программа не запустилась, то стоит подойти к проблеме более основательно и попробовать варианты, указанные на официальном сайте Microsoft.

Tweaking the operating system and especially gaining access to functions that are normally unavailable in applications are surely high on top of the list of things any user would like to be able to do on a regular basis.

Nonetheless, when we come across a grayed out function inside a program or an inactive menu entry, few would think that they can be actually used, with a bit of help from a tiny friend. It’s name is Windows Enabler and its existence is dedicated to making those unavailable commands work.

From the get-go you should note that it will not work for absolutely every single application you will try it on. Also, extra care is required when using Windows Enabler because the behavior of some programs for which you use the disabled controls may be erroneous.

The small utility runs minimized in your system tray and waits for you to click its icon in order to activate its functionality. While Windows Enabler is working, you will see that over the tray icon is written ‘ON’. This means that you can now use those otherwise inactive buttons, menu entries or tick boxes.

Since installation is not necessary for this application and no modifications will be made to the registry, you can simply place it on a portable storage device and run it on any system. The only requirement is that you keep together the executable and the DLL library and Windows Enabler will work just fine.

All in all, this lightweight program can be a true gem for anyone who is in dire need to use a control that for some reason is not normally accessible.
