Thanks for your feedback.

First, try restarting your graphics driver:
Press Windows key + Ctrl + Shift + B

If that does not work.

Press Windows key + X
Click Device Manager
Expand Display adapters
Right click the current display adapter
Click Properties
Click Driver tab
Click Rollback driver if the option is available

If not
Right click the current display adapter
Click Uninstall
Check the box that says, «Delete the driver software for this device.”
Exit Device Manager
Restart

Go to Start -> Settings -> Update & security, then Check for updates and install any available updates.

You might need to update the display driver from the manufacturer of your computers website.

If you have an nVidia, AMD ATI video card or Intel HD graphics installed, you can download the latest drivers from their website.

First, determine what type of graphics you have installed.

Press Windows key + X
Click Device Manager
Expand Display adapters

Once you have determined the graphics driver, go the vendors website and search for the driver in the download section:

Intel — Downloads for Graphics Drivers — Drivers & Software — Intel
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/80939/.

Some of these sites offer autodetect options.

As future Windows 10 feature updates are released it will introduce incompatibility with older devices and PC’s. Certain components will not support these changes as observed by some users not seeing transparency anymore or brightness functions missing. Recommendations include, rollback, block the upgrade or consider upgrading components in your system such as graphics, storage, BIOS, motherboard or purchase a new Windows 10 PC.

There seems to be some early adopter issues at this time with Windows 10 1803, if you can, I recommend you downgrade to your previous version until the Spring Creators Update matures with future cumulative updates.

Open Start > Settings > Update & security > Recovery > under Go back to my previous version of Windows 10, click Get started.
or
Press Control + Alt + Delete
Click Sign out

At the Sign In screen, hold down the shift key on your keyboard while clicking the Power button on the screen
Continue to hold down the shift key while clicking Restart
Continue to hold down the shift key until the Advanced Recovery Options menu appears

Click Advanced options

Click Go back to the previous version of Windows

Window focus is lost and cannot be recovered after moving window between monitors #548

Comments

HalfVoxel commented Jan 8, 2021

Describe the bug

  1. Open Material Shell settings
  2. Press meta+right to move it a monitor to the right
  3. Press meta+left to move it back to the original monitor.

Expected behavior
The window still has focus and can be interacted with

Actual behavior
The window does not have focus and no matter how much I click it I cannot get it to receive focus again. However using alt+tab to select the window brings back its focus. Of note is that the title bar for the window looks greyed out (indicating that it does not have focus).

To Reproduce
I can unfortunately not reproduce this reliably. I could at one point. I reproduced it maybe 10 times in a row with the above instructions. However, a few minutes later something must have changed because I could not reproduce it anymore.

  • Occurs on:
    • X.Org
    • Wayland (not tested)
  • GNOME Shell version: 3.36
  • Distro: Ubuntu 20.04

Current commit
The latest on the gnome extensions store as of 2020-01-08 (I think a new version was released that day, version 10?)

Log data
I note that in the log there is some funky focusing going on. This is from a case where I could not reproduce it. However things still look weird in the log.

Output from journalctl /usr/bin/gnome-shell :

Window focus lost after confirming file deletion from Windows Explorer in dual monitor setup

This morning, I installed the Windows 10 upgrade from Windows 7 Pro. I’m already experiencing an incredibly annoying bug when deleting files. This seems to be the case because I am using multiple monitors. What happens is the Explorer window from which I initiate the deletion loses focus after confirming the deletion. Instead, Windows seems to focus the most recent window that had focus on monitor #1 instead of going back to window the most recent window regardless of which monitor it was on. Note then when I say monitor #1, I mean #1 as seen by the video card, not the monitor that is set as the ‘main display’ in Windows. In my case, monitor #2 is my main display while monitor #1 is the slave. If I do this file deletion in an Explorer window on monitor #1 then the issue is not present things seem to work as expected. I have an NVIDIA Quadro 600 video card.

Here are the steps I can take to reproduce it every time. This requires that you have a dual monitor setup!

1. Open another program, such as a web browser, and position it completely on monitor #1 (to determine which monitor is #1, right-click on the Desktop and click on «Display settings» and the monitors will be numbered in the graphic).

2. Open a Windows Explorer window on monitor #2 to a directory where there are several files you wish to delete.

3. With the mouse, click on any file in that directory to apply focus to the file list portion of the window.

4. Optionally, use the arrow keys to navigate to a different file if the one you clicked on is not one you wish to delete.

5. Press the Delete key on the keyboard.

6. The ‘Delete File’ confirmation comes up. Press the Enter key to confirm that you wish to delete the file. The confirmation window closes and the file is deleted.

7. At this point, the window focus is _supposed_ to return to the list of files in that Explorer window on monitor #2 and keyboard navigation should work without any further interaction. I.e. I should be able to arrow down to the next file immediately after deleting a file. However, what actually happens if I arrow down is that I find that focus has been shifted to monitor #1, in my test case to a web browser window. The web page scrolls down. If I Alt+Tab, focus is back on the Explorer window and I can delete another file.

For a user like me that uses the keyboard more than the mouse, this is a pretty annoying issue that I’m hoping will get patched quickly.

WIN 10 — window keeps losing focus and ALT + TAB not working properly

After windows 10 update from win 7, I have been facing the following issues.

1. ALT + TAB to switch between multiple windows doesn’t work properly especially when a web browser is involved. When I switch only the current window loses focus but the other window doesn’t appear, even if I manually click the needed window from the taskbar using my mouse. I had to press windows+D to go desktop and then select the needed window. This happens especially when the switching happens between a web browser and another window like explorer etc.

2. When the internet connection is off(WIFI) any window that I look into currently loses focus in few seconds but when the internet is ON, this doesn’t happen.

Thanks for any support.
