Windows 7 Hangs on Welcome Screen !! Help

Replies (2) 

Try to unplug all the external devices except keyboard and mouse then check if the computer starts.

If the above does not help, backup all your data to any external drive, refer to the following step.

a. Insert the Windows 7 installation disc into the disc drive, and then start the computer.

b. Press a key when the message indicating «Press any key to boot from CD or DVD …» appears.

c. Select a language, a time and currency, and a keyboard or input method, and then click Next.

d. Click Repair your computer.

e. In System Recovery Options menu, click Command Prompt.

f. When you see a Command Prompt, type notepad and press Enter to launch a Notepad window. Click File and select Open in the Notepad window.

g. Ensure you select the All Files option at the bottom of the window, and then click the Computer option.

h. You can use this Open dialog as if it were a Windows Explorer window – select files and you’ll be able to copy and paste them elsewhere. If you connect a USB drive or removable hard drive to your computer, you will be able to copy-paste files onto it.

Now you can reinstall the Windows 7 operating system using the instructions from this link.

Note: You will need to reinstall the applications that you have installed earlier.

Let us know if it helps. If the issue persists, please reply, we will be happy to assist you further.

Windows 10 hung on Welcome

Replies (5) 

Thank you for your interest in Windows 10.

Method 1

Disconnect all the external devices (printers, scanner, USB (universal serial bus) drives, etc. ) Except mouse and the keyboard and then boot up.

If this corrects the issue then add the devices back one at a time until you discover the piece of hardware causing the issue. Then get updated drivers software for that particular device.

Method 2: Safe Mode

I suggest you to boot the computer to Safe Mode and check if the issue occurs or not. In Safe Mode computer starts with minimal set of drivers and files.

Refer the article to boot to Safe Mode:

Windows Startup Settings (including safe mode)

If the issue do not occur in Safe Mode perform a clean boot and check.

Method 3: Clean boot

Putting your system in Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. You need to follow the steps from the article mentioned below to perform a Clean Boot.

How to perform a clean boot in Windows
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135/en-us

Note: After clean boot troubleshooting steps, refer to the section » How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot » in the provided link to return your computer to Normal startup mode.

Also try to access the computer manufacturer website and install the latest display and chipset drivers.

Hope this will fix the issue, if not let us know with the updated status and we will be happy to assist you further.

Windows hangs on welcome

Thanks for the reply.

I have the event viewer window open but don’t know what to look at. I’m guessing this would be for more advance users. Is there anything in particular you want to see to troubleshoot? Let me know and I will post it.

Post copies of error reports from the System log for the last time it happened.

Have you looked in Event Viewer?

To access the System log select Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, from the list in the left side of the window select Windows Logs and System. Place the cursor on System, right click and select Filter Current Log. Check the box before Error and click on OK and you see only Error reports. Click on the Date and Time Header to sort. You may need to click a second time to see the latest Report at the top.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click on the error you want to copy. Click on the Copy button to place a copy on your Clipboard and close Event Viewer. Now start your message and paste into the body of the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer.

Hope this helps, Gerry Cornell

I just realised that I might have to get the error log straight after it happens so I can post the right error log. Please remember the problem doesn’t occur everytime, just randomly.

I had a look through the event viewer and can’t see an error report for 9:16:48 AM. The error before the one I pasted above is for 9:09:46 AM, a totally different error I’m guessing.

It happened again tonight and the error is at 8:06:40 and then 8:07:05. Seems to produce 2 error each time «Event 6008, Event Log» and «Event 7000 Service Control Manager».

I’ll paste both from the latest error:

1. Restart and go to boot menu via F8.

2. Try to start Safe Mode. If you manage to get into it, see what errors are in Event log and make sure, that there is no problem in Device Manager.

3. Then again restart and go into boot menu. This time use logging boot processes. Restart and return to Safe Mode and inspect boot log. Analyze it.

B. Hardware meet the requirements:

1. Always upgrade one component at the same time and check proper functionality just after upgrade.

2. Make sure that you are working with proper components. I mean checking components agains qualified vendor list.

3. Check memory (I check HDD too )

4. Make sure that power supply provides enough power.

5. Use additional cable for graphics card. You will find connector on graphics card (upper edge)

6. Make sure that all parameters are correct in BIOS.

I thank you for that reply I have done all of this and here’s why I think its a windows 7 fault as of now as I type this my cpu in bios reads as 5050ghz my mem is 1600 but is running 1647ghz and windows 7 see’s my cpu in device manager as 4.70ghz so I believe it’s clearly a windows 7 fault it refuse to recognise my cpu as 5ghz all my hardware is top stuff from named manufactur asus motherboard crosshair v formula-z amd cpu 9590, corsair vengeance mem 16gb graphics cards have power going to them i’m running sli evga 660 gtx cards both exact same and one week old as is motherboard and cpu and mem all brand now psu evga 1300watt bought 2 days ago cause I thought it was a power issue.
