WinXP installation hangs at «Setup is starting Windows. » after loading all mandatory drivers from CD.

My Pentium III 1.0 GHz computer (394MB RAM, 500GB hard drive) crapped out on me after I loaded Nikon’s PicturePerfect app. For some reason, the Nikon software screwed up my registry. Now, whenever I turn on my PC, I get the BSOD with the error «Page Fault in non-Page area». I cannot start my computer in SAFE mode or «Start Windows normally» as I will get the same error msg almost immediately without seeing the Windows logo & progress bar. I can start my PC using the «Last Known Good Configuration» and it will boot-up to the Microsoft Windows logo with the small progress bar at the bottom, so I know the hard drive is fine. Then the screen goes black while WinXP is loading something from the hard drive, and then the BSOD with the page fault error comes up. I suspect that there is bad data in a critical area of the drive where Windows needs the data to start-up properly. In the meantime, I cannot start Windows at all because all of the Windows options lead to BSOD with the page fault msg.

I’m resigned to re-loading WinXP from scratch, but I cannot seem to get my original install CD to work either. I re-configured my BIOS for CD-booting, then boot up the original WinXP CD. It reads and load everything fine, then it hangs at «Setup is starting Windows. » I thought it was testing the hardware, but it stayed in that state for 3 hours! The «Welcome to Windows Setup» screen never came up.

I was thinking about applying FDISK to the new 500GB drive, and formatting out the errors on the hard drive, but I cannot do that since I cannot terminate the Setup process. I feel stuck in a bad situation where I cannot get into DOS to FDISK and FORMAT my C: drive.

Hello, I recently purchased parts to build my own computer. However, I have encountered a major problem. That is when I try to install Windows 7 64 Bit Clean Install on my computer, it hangs at Setup is starting with the spinning circle cursor.

My specs are:
i7 2600 3.4 gHz
32gB Ram(4*8 corsair vengeance)
850PSU Corsair
eVGA GTX 580
Intel DP67BG Motherboard
Cooler Master fan
Intel SSD-120 gB(for OS)
Generic 2TB Hard Drive(for data)

I also bought the WIndows 7 from the Microsoft Store(319.99 full download)

Try disconnecting all non-essential devices you might have attached to the machine, they might be interfering with setup.

Try reducing the amount of installed RAM to a single stick and attempt the installation to see if it completes. If it completes successfully, you can proceed to re-add the additional RAM.

If you have more than one internal hard disk attached to the system, detach all except the target hard disk where Windows 7 will be installed.

If you have any external storage devices such as external hard disks or thumb drives attached to the system, disconnect them, they might interfering with setup.

If you downloaded Windows 7 from the Internet as a digital download and burnt it to a blank DVD disc, it might be corrupt, try burning again at the lowest speed supported by your DVD burner.

If the problem occurrs again, try downloading another copy and burn to a blank DVD disc again.

Other things to try: according to Microsoft:

Installation might stop if the system cannot copy files. Here are some possible causes and solutions for this problem:

Your Windows installation disc is scratched, smudged, or dirty. Clean the disc with a soft cloth, insert it in the CD or DVD drive, and then begin the Windows installation again. If your installation disc is damaged, you might need to replace it. For more information, go to How to replace lost, broken, or missing Microsoft software or hardware on the Microsoft website.

Your CD or DVD drive is not working properly, or the disc might be vibrating too much for the laser to accurately read the data. For more information about this problem, consult your hardware documentation, or contact the CD or DVD drive manufacturer.

If your computer has multiple CD or DVD drives, your computer might be trying to locate files on the wrong drive. If your computer has a feature to disable CD or DVD drives that are not being used, disable the drives that you aren’t using. Otherwise, try inserting the disc into a different drive, and then start the installation again.

This is usually caused by hardware or software that is incompatible with Windows 7. If you have this problem, follow these steps:

Wait about 10 minutes to see if the installation continues. Watch the hard disk indicator (often a small light on your computer that blinks when your hard disk is running) to see if there is any activity. If your hard disk appears to be working, the installation should be in progress. If your hard disk does not appear to be working, go to step 2.

Uninstall all antivirus software, and then restart your computer. Don’t forget to enable antivirus software after you install Windows.

If the installation fails again, there might be a hardware incompatibility problem. Go to the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor on the Microsoft website to see if your computer can run Windows 7.

If you have compatible hardware and your computer still stops responding, disable any unnecessary hardware. Remove universal serial bus (USB) devices; remove or disable network adapters, sound cards, and serial cards; and then restart the installation.

If the computer still stops responding during installation, contact your computer manufacturer or retailer.

Setup is starting services and «press any key to boot» not showing.

Since the Windows 7 installation was interrupted, you will have to start the process of installing windows 7 again. You need to make sure that the boot order in the BIOS is set to boot from CD\DVD 1st. Follow the steps to change the boot order.

a) Turn on your computer, insert the Windows 7 installation disc or USB flash drive, and then restart your computer.

b) Newer computers often display a startup (or boot) menu. On the startup menu, choose «BIOS setup,» or «BIOS settings,» or something similar.

Procedures vary depending on the BIOS manufacturer. Usually, you must press a key (such as F2, F12, Delete, Esc) or a key combination immediately after you turn on your computer but before Windows starts. If the Windows logo appears, you need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then shutting down and restarting your computer again.

c) The BIOS setup screen appears. On the BIOS setup screen, choose the option called «Boot order,» or something similar. Boot order settings might also be listed under «Advanced settings» or something similar.

d) Select your DVD drive or USB flash drive as the first startup device. (The USB flash drive might be listed under «Removable devices» or something similar.)

e) Save the setting changes, and then exit the BIOS.

f) Restart your computer, and then start Windows 7 from the installation disc or USB flash drive as previously described.

If you are not comfortable in working with the BIOS then you may contact the computer manufacturer to install Windows 7 on the computer.

В вашем случае может быть название флешки или CD-носителя. Выбрали устройство – жмем «Enter».

Шаг 7. Выходим из вкладки «Boot» – клавиша Esc. Так изменения сохранятся и вступят в силу после перезагрузки. В выскочившем окошке выбираем «ОК» и жмём «Enter».

Компьютер автоматически перезагрузится. Проблема решена – система Windows начнет «чистую установку» без зависаний и вылетающих ошибок. Именно при помощи работы с BIOS решаются проблемы в духе «не устанавливается вин 7!! вис при начале установки».

Первое, что требуется сделать – произвести поиск причин медленной установки Windows 7. Разберемся с частыми источниками неполадок:
