How to use multiple monitors in Windows 10

After you’ve connected your Windows 10 PC to external displays, you can adjust the settings for each one.

Before you start

Before changing settings for your external displays, make sure everything is connected properly. Here’s what you can do:

Make sure your cables are properly connected to your PC or dock.

Check for Windows updates. To check for updates, select Start > Settings > Updates & Security > Windows Update > Check for updates.

Tip: If you’re using a wireless display adapter, connect to an HDMI port on newer TVs, then wirelessly connect your PC to it. After connecting your wireless display adapter to your TV, go to your Windows 10 PC and select Start > Settings > System > Display, then select Connect to a wireless display.

Rearrange your displays

You’ll see this option when Windows detects more than one display. Each display will be numbered to help you identify them more easily.

Identify a display

To see which number corresponds to a display, select Start > Settings > System > Display > Rearrange your displays, then select Identify. A number appears on the screen of the display it’s assigned to.

Detect a display

If you connected another display and it isn’t showing in Settings, select Start > Settings > System > Display > Rearrange your displays, then select Detect.

Arrange your displays

If you have multiple displays, you can change how they’re arranged. This is helpful if you want your displays to match how they’re set up in your home or office. In Display settings, select and drag the display to where you want. Do this with all the displays you want to move. When you’re happy with the layout, select Apply. Test your new layout by moving your mouse pointer across the different displays to make sure it works like you expect.

Change display options

After you’re connected to your external displays, you can change settings like your resolution, screen layout, and more. To see available options, select Start > Settings > System > Display.

Change orientation

Windows will recommend an orientation for your screen. To change it in Display settings, go to Scale and Layout, then choose your preferred Display orientation. If you change the orientation of a monitor, you’ll also need to physically rotate the screen. For example, you’d rotate your external display to use it in portrait instead of landscape.

Choose a display option

To change what shows on your displays, press Windows logo key + P. Here’s what you can choose.

See things on one display only.

See the same thing on all your displays.

See your desktop across multiple screens. When you have displays extended, you can move items between the two screens.

See everything on the second display only.

Если для тех или иных задач вам требуется выключить экран ноутбука, не отключая его, то есть так, чтобы ноутбук продолжал работать, сделать это можно несколькими различными способами: как средствами Windows 10, 8.1 или Windows 7, так и с помощью сторонних утилит.

В этой инструкции подробно о нескольких способах выключения экрана ноутбука без прерывания его работы: с помощью кнопки питания, простого скрипта или ярлыка на рабочем столе или панели задач, а также путём использования сторонних программ для этих целей. Выключение экрана ноутбука кнопкой питания и другие возможности в Windows 10, 8.1 и Windows 7

Вы можете использовать встроенные настройки электропитания Windows, чтобы:

• Выключить экран при нажатии кнопки питания на ноутбуке либо при его закрытии (без выключения или перехода в режим сна самого ноутбука)
• Настроить автоматическое выключение экрана после какого-либо периода бездействия

Сделать это очень просто, потребуется выполнить следующие простые шаги:

1. Зайдите в параметры электропитания. Для этого можно нажать правой кнопкой мыши по значку батареи в области уведомлений справа внизу и выбрать нужный пункт контекстного меню, либо зайти в «Панель управления» и открыть пункт «Электропитание».
2. В настройках электропитания слева обратите внимание на пункты «Действия кнопок питания», «Действие при закрытии крышки» и «Настройка отключения дисплея».
3. Каждый из этих пунктов позволяет настроить отключение экрана ноутбука при определенном событии. Например, зайдя в «Действия кнопок питания», мы можем сделать так, чтобы экран ноутбука выключался при нажатии кнопки питания, причем сделать это можно отдельно для случая, когда ноутбук работает от батареи или сети.
4. В настройках отключения дисплея можно задать время, через которое экран ноутбука будет отключаться автоматически при бездействии со стороны пользователя.
5. Те же самые параметры можно найти (но не на любом ноутбуке, некоторые пункты могут отсутствовать), если выбрать пункт «Настройка схемы электропитания» для выбранной схемы, затем перейти в «Изменить дополнительные параметры питания».

Дополнительно, при использовании подключенного к ноутбуку внешнего монитора, вы можете настроить вывод изображения только на внешний монитор, при этом экран ноутбука выключится. В Windows 10 соответствующий пункт вы найдете в параметрах экрана, как на изображении ниже.

Скрипт или ярлык для выключения экрана ноутбука

На сайте Microsoft Sysinternals представлен простой .bat скрипт, выполняющий выключение экрана ноутбука или ПК при запуске. Загрузка доступна на официальной странице https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/Turn-off-screen-4d173e0a

Содержимое скрипта очень простое:

И вы можете самостоятельно создать bat-файл с этим содержимым. Также есть возможность создать ярлык на рабочем столе, в панели задач или ещё где-то. Для этого нажмите правой кнопкой мыши в пустом месте рабочего стола, выберите «Создать» — «Ярлык» и введите следующий код в поле «Укажите расположение объекта»:

Остальные параметры ярлыка и вид значка можно задать на своё усмотрение.

Включение экрана после выключения каждым из этих способов выполняется простым кликом мышью или нажатием любых клавиш на клавиатуре.

Сторонние программы

Существует множество сторонних утилит, которые также позволяют выполнить выключение экрана ноутбука без его отключения или засыпания, например: ScreenOff, Turn Off Monitor, DisplayOff, BlackTop и другие.

Например, ScreenOff, доступная на странице разработчика https://www.thewindowsclub.com/screenoff-turn-off-windows-laptop-screen — очень маленькая утилита, которая при запуске просто выключает все мониторы до следующего нажатия клавиши или кнопки мыши.

Некоторые утилиты предоставляют более широкие возможности. DisplayOff (официальная страница для скачивания — https://sourceforge.net/projects/doff/ предоставляет более широкие возможности: при простом запуске утилиты, она просто выключает экран, но, если запустить с определенными параметрами (на снимке ниже), можно также выполнить блокировку компьютера, добавить значок выключения экрана в область уведомлений, запустить заставку (скрин-сейвер).

Кроме этого, утилита в комплекте имеет не только исполняемый файл .exe, но и файл заставки (скрин-сейвера) .scr, который можно установить в Windows (обычно достаточно нажать правой кнопкой мыши по файлу и выбрать «Установить»), затем выбрать в параметрах заставки и, вместо включения заставки у вас в указанное время будет просто отключаться экран. А как сделать чтобы движения мышкой из 1 способа не включали дисплей обратно?
Чтобы как на ПК сделать, пока дисплей сам не включишь, двигай мышкой не двигай, а экран не включится.

Ещё один способ. Скачиваем прогу nircmd.exe (гугле в помощь). Закидываем прогу в c:\windows.
Делаем из этого вот текста reg файл.

На выходе мы получаем в контекстном меню рабочего стола пункт: Отключить дисплей

Для выключения экрана в ноутбуке надо нажать кнопки fn+screen. Экран погаснет, но продолжит работу.

как погасить основной монитор на ноуте при этом оставив подключенный монитор работать?

Я обычно крышку просто закрываю (выставив в параметрах питания чтобы при закрытии он не выключался, при этом монитор все равно выключится).
Ну а второй метод — в параметрах двух мониторов выставить вывод только на нужный экран, тогда «ненужный» сам погаснет.

Screen Mirroring on Windows 10: How to Turn Your PC Into a Wireless Display

Windows 10 has offered the ability to mirror your screen to any dongle or device (streaming box, TV) compatible with the popular Miracast standard since its launch in 2015. Microsoft’s OS now lets your PC become the wireless display, receiving Miracast signals from a phone, tablet or other Windows 10 laptop or desktop.

If you have a small Windows 10-powered computer hooked up to your TV, it can now double as a wireless display dongle for your phone or laptop. When you’re mirroring from a Windows 10 computer, you can extend rather than duplicate the screen so you can, for example, play a movie on the receiving display while you send emails on the primary one. Just imagine taking a Windows 10 tablet, propping it up next to your laptop and using it as a second monitor on the road.

While most modern devices with Wi-Fi have the ability to send out a Miracast signal, compatibility is spotty at best. Sometimes you have to try casting your screen three or four times before the process works. So be patient. If you accidentally rotated your screen while attempting to extend your display, we have a quick fix for that.

Looking to do screen mirroring on Windows 10? Here’s how to turn your Windows 10 PC into a Miracast-capable wireless display:

1. Open the action center. It’s represented by the speech bubble icon in the lower right corner of the screen.

2. Click Connect.

3. Click Projecting to this PC.

A settings window appears.

4. Select «Available Everywhere» or «Available everywhere on secure networks» from the top pulldown menu.

5. Select «First time only» or «Every time» under «Ask to project to this PC.» I recommend picking «first time only,» unless you’re really worried that some rogue person is going to grab your phone and project to your computer without your permission.

I recommend leaving «Require PIN for pairing» off since you have to grant permission on the receiving computer anyway. You can also decide whether you want your PC to receive projection requests only when it’s plugged in.

6. Click Yes when Windows 10 alerts you that another device wants to project to your computer.

The Windows connect app will launch in its own window. You can drag, resize or maximize the window. We found that videos played smoothly in a connection between a Surface Pro 4 and a ThinkPad T440s. Also, if the sending device is a Windows 10 PC and allows it, you can use the keyboard and mouse on the receiving computer to remotely control the sender.

How to Mirror Your Windows 10 Screen to Another Windows 10 Device

Here’s how to broadcast your screen from the sending device, if it’s a Windows 10 computer. Android devices have different wireless display menus.

1. Open the action center.

2. Click Connect. A list of available receiving devices appears and your other computer should be on it.

3. Select the receiving device. You may have to wait a minute or longer for the devices to pair. It may also fail and you’ll need to try again.

4. Toggle «Allow input» to on if you want to let the receiving device control your PC with its keyboard and mouse.

5. Click «Change projection mode» and select «Extend» from the menu that appears if you want to use the wireless display as a second desktop, rather than a mirror of your current desktop.

6. Click Disconnect when you want to terminate your connection.
