Windows Live Mail Error 0x80041161
I have been using Windows Live Mail with no problems until a few days ago. I tried to start WLM and got the error message 0x80041161. I checked the internet for solutions to the problem and was surprised at the number of people who are experiencing the same problem. I tried the various solutions that other users posted without success. These included:
— Using Wlarp.exe to repair the problem.
— Using the WLM repair utility to repair the problem.
— Making sure that WLM sign-in assistant is running.
— Going back to a previous restore point.
— Re-installing WLM.
— Re-installing the entire suite of Windows Live Essentials.
— Removing Windows Live Essentials, and re-installing same.
— Creating another User Account and installing WLM and then copying my data and apps from my old User Account to the newly created User Account.
NOTHING HAS WORKED .
I, as well as many others, have spent a lot of time trying to troubleshoot this and I am about ready to dump WLM for an mail program that actually works. It really ticks me off that Microsoft is well aware of this problem (just by the sheer number of users who have posted the same problem), and have done nothing to formally address and correct it. It makes me even madder thinking of all the hours that users have wasted trying to troubleshoot this problem for Microsoft.
If there is a Microsoft engineer who truly understands this problem, and actually knows how to fix it, I would love to hear from him or her.
I am using WLM with Windows 7 (64 bit ).
4/7/12 — I received a private reply from a Helene_C (Microsoft Tech Support, I assume), who said she would help me with this problem. She instructed me to download a log capture program called FiddlerCap and email her the logs from my computer. As instructed, I downloaded the program, created a log capture and emailed it to her on 4/7.
4/9/12 — After not hearing anything from Helene_C, I sent her another email asking her what the next step is to solving the problem. I get NO REPLY.
4/14/12 — Still not hearing anything from Helene_C, I sent her another email asking her what gives? She said she would help me, I did as she asked and sent her the requested logs, and still she DOES NOT REPLY !!
4/24/12 — I am still awaiting a response from Helen_C as I still have not received one from her or anyone else at Microsoft. Microsoft Customer Service really sucks.
5/14/12 — I am still awaiting a response from Helen_C or anyone else at tech support. Have not had any replies. Microsoft customer service is just awful. I think I have no where else to go but to dump Live Mail and go with a competitor’s product.

I finally had to establish a windows live mail account using the email address that I was my default in windows mail then verify it via mail logging into an online system to access it. Then I went into Windows live mail and entered in the email and password and it worked.
I had a mail account already with a different email password but it did not work. Just so you know to try this.

What others? The other problems you’re having may well give clues to what’s wrong.
Windows Live Mail will not open with 0x80041161 error.
That error usually means that the Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant Service is not running, but the program needs it to be running at start-up.
Removed/installed/repaired Windows Live Mail REPEATEDLY
Removing/re-installing on the one hand and repairing on the other are two quite different procedures. They are both carried out using wlarp.exe, the Windows Live Add/Remove Programs applet in Control Panel.
It’s not at all clear what this means. You have checked that the required service — wlidsvc.exe — is indeed running before you attempt to launch the program, yet you still see an error message giving error code 0x80041161?
Changed suggested Internet Explorer «SSL» and «Certificate Revocation»
I’ve no idea what this means, nor what it has to do with the error you’re seeing.
Do you have any sort of security or performance-enhancing software running that might be interfering with Windows and other programs on your computer? Here are some of the more common varieties of this type of software:

The other problem I am having is that Bing is trying to hijack my Internet Explorer.
Performed Update, downloaded IE 11 (I knew better, but did it anyway), Could not disable tabbed browsing, Uninstalled it, downloaded and installed IE 10. Now, every time I open IE, says «Browser de fault, Bing, Bla Bla Bla. Opens Options, cannot remove Bing Browser.
«wlidsvc.exe» does not come up in task manager, I found it, started it through task manager, «wlidsvcm.exe» comes up also, Mail still won’t open, has same error.
«wlmail.exe 32*» does come up in task manager, but goes away once you «ok» the error.
Yes, I first «repaired» Windows Live Mail through uninstall/repair on programs, twice, said «Windows Live Mail has been successfully repaired», try to start, NO. Uninstalled it, re-downloaded it and installed, same thing. Repaired again through uninstall/repair, again,»repaired successfully» again, no.
Have done this 4 times.
«Services»- went into ‘services’, made sure that Windows Live Sign On Assistant is set to Automatic, as repeated throughout the error forums.
One recommended change I read in one of the replies for this error stated to change in internet options-
Check box «SSL 2.0» and «SSL 3.0», also to uncheck «Check for Certificate Revocation»
I am trying most anything, I would like to continue to use Live Mail, but if I can’t get it to work.
The ONLY security I am running is Windows Firewall and Windows Defender. That’s it.

Have been fighting this error since I updated my computer, I cannot open Windows Live Mail, so Don’t ask me to open it to chance something.
I have done EVERYTHING I was told in the previous post, along with everything everyone else was told on this forum.
Repaired/reinstalled 4 times
turned off firewall.
Please, if you are not a Microsoft forum moderator, do not answer my post. I am tired of everyone guessing how to fix my problem.

Welcome to the Microsoft Community Forum!
I understand that you’re having issues on your Windows Live Mail with the error 0x80041161. Let me find a solution for you.
First, please verify if your computer has enough space for the program to run properly. If yes, kindly uninstall then re-install the program since it’s possible that a corrupted data within Windows Live Mail is causing this issue.
Please uninstall your Windows Essentials using a CMD (command) line parameter. Note that this is different from the regular process of uninstalling a program as this process deletes all sub folders on your system resetting every set up you made to default. To do this, please follow the instructions on the article below:
How to uninstall Windows Essentials via CMD
Afterwards, reinstall Essentials using an offline installer. The offline installer differs from the regular installer that constantly uses internet connection which can be halted by the computer’s firewall or other third party software. The procedures and where to download the installer is in the article below:
How do I install Windows Essentials while offline?
After uninstalling and reinstalling the program, kindly visit the article » How do I add an account to Windows Live Mail? » for the steps on how to configure your account in Windows Live Mail.
Let us know how things turn out.
Thank you.
