1. Modify the registry

Press Windows Key + R and type regedit. Now press Enter or click OK.
In the left pane, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows .
Right-click Windows and chooseNew >Key.
Set Personalization as the name of the new key.
Right-click the newly created Personalization key and choose New >DWORD (32-bit) Value.
Set NoLockScreen as the name of the DWORD and double-click it to open its properties.
Now change the Value Data to 1 and click OK to save changes.

How do I get my startup lock screen back?

Please follow the steps below to turn On or Off either Password or PIN in Windows 10:

Press Windows key + i to open Settings, then click Accounts.
In the left pane, click Sign-in options.
Choose from the list you want to use as your sign-in option, then click Add.
Follow the instructions.

Note: You may also use the Fingerprint option if your device has a fingerprint scanner. If you want to show the account details (e.g. email address) on sign-in screen, just turn on Privacy.

Nice try, but I had already tried that and it is not as advertised. I open settings, go to accounts, click on sign in options, but the only options listed are are 1) Require Sign in, which gives me the option of either never or when the machine wakes up from a sleep, which does not include log on: 2) Windows Hello: 3) Pin, where I can change or delete a pin: 4)Picture Passwprd: and 5)Dynamic Lock. Nothing there about a lock screen on log in. It was there last week before the hard drive went down, but not there now.

Type netplwiz, hit Enter.
Check Users must enter a username and password to use this computer.
Enter the password you set in Sign-in options.

I am not trying to be disrespectful, but I am really frustrated. I am referring to the login screen when starting the computer first thing every morning. If I follow the steps that Riel Alc gave me, there is nothing that has anything to do with that screen. His steps ONLY work on the «wake up» screens. If I set the wake up screens to ask for the pin it does NOT set up the logon lock page. My computer had the log in page prior to the new hard drive. Now it does not. I did not have the lock page set for wake ups. Now it seems that is all I can get.

My laptop which also has Windows 10 has the start up lock screen, but I cannot find any controls for it to try and back track how to start it. Someone out there must know how this is done. I hope whoever it is finds his or her way here!
