All Icons and Files has changed into windows Media Player icon in windows 7

I have a windows 7 computer. I never faced any such issue before. However, All Desktop Icons has been changed into Windows Media Player Icon which never opens. It happened when, I tried to open some of my files with Windows Media Player. What should I do to fix it?

You will have to change the Default program from Windows Media Player to something other than that. The procedure for doing the same are as follows:

1. Click on «Start» button.
2. After that, Click on «Control Panel».
3. Move to «Default Programs».
4. Click on «Set as Default Programs».
5. After that, Click on «Windows Media Player».
6. Once done, Click on Choose Defaults for this program.
7. Now uncheck all the option for programs, You don’t want to open with Windows Media Player.
8. Once done, Click «OK».

If you are still facing the same Issue, I will suggest you to make some changes to the Registry. Registry is always an important part of Windows OS so don’t forget to take a backup before making any changes to it.

1. Press «Windows Key+R» to open the Run Command. Type “regedit” in the Run Command Box and Hit the Enter button.
2. Now, Navigate to «HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ FileExts \ .exe \ UserChoice»
3. Delete the «UserChoice» key.

Don’t worry about it, your system got effected with virus or malware.

Download an anti virus program make sure it is a complete version and updated too.

Once you download, install it on your system and update it.

now restart your computer and scan entire system.

By this should remove all the virus from your system.

Now remove all the icons from your desktop and re create shortcuts. this will help you for sure..

Sometime by mistake, when you try to open files with Windows media player, all the icons on desktop can be selected such as when
you click first icon on your desktop and not click on desktop to deselect the menu and during this you have pressed shift key and have
chosen another files to play with window media player.

The simplest solution to this problem is use of Tuneup utilities in the following way:
> Download and install Tuneup utilities and open Tuneup utilities.
> In the “fix problems”, click on —Fix common problems menu.
> In the Tuneup repair wizard, select —Icons are displayed incorrectly in the display issues menu list.
> Click on Next, and let Tuneup utilities to finish the repairing process.
And you have done.

To resolve the issue

First press windows key+R and type control folders and click OK

then tap on VIEW tab . and choose Show Hidden files option

after that press again windows key+R and type appdata and click OK

then open the local folder . after that delete the IconCache option from the list

then change the Folder options to default mode

and now restart the PC .. and after hat it will be solved

To solve this problem follow these steps

• First of all go to the start
• Then type run in search and select the Run
• Now type regedit and press enter
• then navigate to the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ FilesExts \.exe \UserChoice
• Delete the UserChoice key.

This will solve your problem.

dear friend please use as the following to solve your problem
click on the start button >> control panel >> default programs >> set as default programs >> window media player >> once done click on the choose default for this program.

now you will un check all the option for programs you dont want to open with window media player

then once done click on OK

if you are stil facing the sane issue i will suggest you to make some change to the registry is always an important part of window OS so dont forget to take a backup before making any change to it.

then you press window key+R to open the run command . type regedit in the run command box and hit enter button .

now navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \microsoft\window\ current version \ explorer \ fileExts\ .exe \ userchoice

then you delete the user choice key.

One way to solve this problem is that you can go to any media file,right click there and click properties. There you can click on Previous version.

Another way to solve this problem is that go to properties of that file by right clicking there and make the «opens with option» as you desire.

Now all the files of that type in the folder will open with same player which you have selected.

If you are facing this problem then go in the system restore in recovery, control panel and restore to an older point it will led you to solve your problem .
OR
The programs which are opening with wmp and they should not open with that then right click on it and change the default program for it. and you can also change the default program in control pane and in windows media player change the settings

I think this can be due to many possible reasons.
It can be due to the action or effect of virus or malware .
So download antivirus which is complete and updated version .
Scan your computer and clean your computer .
If does not help then you goto control panel default programs and change the default programs.
If this does not help then you must restore your computer to the last restore point .
