Windows media files missing

codec missing when running .mov file with Windows Media Player

I’m trying to play a .mov file that was recorded with an iPhone on my windows 10 pc. When it plays, I get the error «missing codec, the item was encoded in a format that’s not supported, 0xc00d5212». I select Close and the audio plays, but no video.

The file is good as it runs under Google Photos and my friends computer (the person who recorded it and shared it with me). I have searched around the web a lot. Multiple places refer to setting the Download codecs automatically option on Media Player under Tools, Options, Player tab, but it’s not there in my version. I am running version 12 that seems to be the latest and I am the administrator, the only user on my PC.

I’ve looked at the file properties in Media Player, but there is no Audio codec or Video codec listed.

I would think this is very common to want to run a video recorded on an iPhone on a windows PC. Please help, how to I get the correct codec installed for iPhone MOV files.

However, I don’t think my problem is the video device driver. The other person couldn’t play mp4 files either and I can. If you research the error code fixes, it says it could be missing codec, video device driver or convert the file. Since I can run other video files (just not MOV) and the files will run from Google Photos, I don’t think it’s the video device driver.

I am asking how to fix it from a codec point of few.

Some places mention downloading from k-Lite, but I’m leery to download stuff I’m not sure of. AND I don’t understand why WMP can’t run common files from iPhones. I would really like that option above to work and wondering if it’s somewhere else and WMP would download what it needs.

Another friend mentioned they had to download other software to run their iPhone videos. 🙁

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hello, I’m Virginia an independent advisor with 20 years of expertise in fixing my own & friends’ PC problems.
Check the Microsoft store for any codecs.
WMP doesn’t play MP4 files so you will require a third party app, K-Lite codec pack includes its own Windows classic media player so it will play these files. Or install iTunes from the MS store & use this to play MP4/iPhone videos.

My WMP does play my MP4 files fine. My problem is that it doesn’t play the MOV files that were video taped on an iPhone from a friend of mine.

The first link you have talks about MP4 files. I need help with MOV files.

I have seen reference to the K-Lite to get the codec that you need, but I’ve also read warnings about being careful of what you download. I have an older desktop (on my list to get a new one next year), so leery of downloading things, I’m not sure about.

One place said to try and run with Photos app. When I run a MOV file within it, it says to install add’l codec to work with this file and directs me to download them from the MS Store and it brings up HVEC video extensions (for 0.99). Now that I read what it says it talks about new devices and such — not sure what that alludes to.

Metadata missing in Windows media player files paying from CD

*Original Title: CD text

How do I get media player in windows 8.1 to display the CD text. All I get is unknown artist and track number.

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

Based on the issue description I understand that you are not getting the metadata (File information) display in Windows media player while playing files from CD. Correct me if I am wrong.

The probable cause for this issue could be because of the Options for metadata not selected properly in the Windows media player.

To understand this issue better I would like to know the following information:

2. Are you getting file information from other existing files in the Windows media player library or from the other source you play the music in Window Media Player?

Lets try the following methods and check if it helps.

If you use Windows Media Player 12, you may notice some of your media is missing information when displayed in the library. The following below procedure will help you to edit and update metadata and cover art in WMP 12.

By default, Windows Media Player will pull metadata, such as the title, artist, album, and cover art from the Internet. If you did not accept that default option during setup, we’ll need to turn the feature on first.

Select Tools > Options from the top Menu bar.

On the Library tab, ensure that Retrieve additional information form the Internet is checked. Click OK.

Editing Metadata

Now we’re ready to update some files. Find a media file with incorrect details or cover art. Right-click on the title and select Find album info.

This will bring up the Find album information window. Here you’ll see the existing information that Windows Media Player interpreted as correct on the left side. The results of WMP’s search for the media information are on the right.

Click on Artists, Albums , or Tracks to scroll through the search results and try to find a match. You can also type in new keywords in the Search box and hit enter (or click the Search button) to perform a new search.

If you find a correct match for your media file, click to select it and click Next.

You’ll be prompted to confirm your selection, then click Finish.

You should now see your media file displayed properly in Windows Media Player.

Manually Entering Metadata

If your search for the correct media information comes up empty, you can always manually enter the information yourself.

On the Find album information window, click Edit under Existing Information.

You can edit the existing information in the text boxes or the Genre dropdown box.

There are a couple hidden text boxes below. Click next to Contributing Artist or Composer to enter that information.

Choosing Your Own Cover Art

If your media file doesn’t pull the proper cover art, or if you simply wish to find a different image, you can add your own. Search online for a suitable image. An ideal size would be around 300 x 300 pixels, give or take. Right-click on the image copy the image.

You’ll need to switch to Expanded title (if you haven’t already) to paste the image.

Paste your new image by right-clicking on the current image and select Paste album art. Note: If the image is not suitable size or type, the Paste album art option will not be available.

Your new cover art will appear in Windows Media Player.

Even though it is pulled from the Internet, cover art is cached on your computer and will still be available when you are disconnected from the Internet.

Hope this information helps, please reply with the status of the issue and the required information for further assistance, we will be happy to assist.

Reset your Pc not working «Insert Media Some files are missing. Your windows installation or recovery medial will provide these files»

I am trying to use «Reset Your PC». After the computer thinks about it for a while it comes up with this error: «Insert Media Some files are missing. Your windows installation or recovery medial will provide these files» Then there is a «Cancel» button. and that is all that I can do.

I have two hard drives. One that has windows on it and windows programs. A second hard drive that has all my other programs on it. I install a third hard drive, and when I did it changed the volume letter of my second hard drive. I have followed the steps to change my volume drive back to the orignal letter, but that letter is not an option on the drop down menu. When I put the hard drive that has had the volume letter change into another computer it comes up as the correct volume letter drive:

Windows media files missing

Microsoft.

Wmdb и LocalMLS _ *.
