It’s no secret that the Mac platform has never been Microsoft’s priority. This is why versions of Microsoft products on Mac are usually way behind their PC counterpart. Windows Media Player was no different. While the PC version is now onto 11, Windows Media Player for Mac stopped on version 9 and has now been abandoned. It has been replaced by Flip4Mac which is the Microsoft officially endorsed Windows Media Player for Macs.

Windows Media Player for Mac was always somewhat technologically behind compared to other media players for Mac like Quicktime. It could not handle the latest audio and video codecs and streaming videos resulted in substantial buffer times. The brushed metal feel which looked alright a while back, looked very dated too.

Windows Media Player 9 did not offer Intel support either meaning that only Power PC were able to use it.

If you want to reinstall Windows Media Player, try the following:

Click the Start button, type features, and select Turn Windows features on or off.

Scroll down and expand Media Features, clear the Windows Media Player check box, and click OK.

Restart your device. Windows Media Player should be uninstalled.

Restart your device. Windows Media player should now be reinstalled.

История создания

Первая версия утилиты планировалась как коммерческий продукт, но в процессе создания релиза, автор под ником Gabest, решил сделать программу бесплатной. Свои затраты он планировал вернуть внедрив систему пожертвований автору приложения. Первый релиз Media Player Classic Home Cinema вышел в 2002 году.
Так как программа разрабатывалась для платной дистрибуции, в нее был заложен очень приличный функционал с качественной реализацией. Это и обусловило огромную популярность утилиты, которую мы предлагаем скачать. Донором интерфейса послужил встроенный плеер в ОС от Microsoft — Windows Media Player. Распространение программы происходит по условиям бесплатной лицензии GPL.

Функционал

Основной задачей, которую выполняет мультимедиа плеер является проигрывание видеофайлов любых форматов (mpeg, avi, 3gp, Blu-Ray и т.д.). Выпуск Home Cinema имеет отличительные особенности от обычного Медиа Плеер Классик, став логичным развитием проекта. К новому функционалу следует отнести:

• Добавление поддержки видеодекодеров нового поколения: H.264, VC-1.
• Поддержка всех доступных операционных систем для домашних платформ;
• Полная совместимость с системами визуализации EVR и madVR;
• Поддержка экранного меню на видеозаписях;

Media Player classic для MAC на данный момент не выпущен и скорее всего не будет. Первоначальный разработчик прекратил поддержку своего продукта в 2017 году. Дальнейшее обновление происходит за счет работы фанатов утилиты. Media Player Classic официальный сайт предлагает последнюю версию 1.7.13, после нее идут только фанатские разработки. Недостатки программы

Проигрыватель для ПК имеет небольшие недостатки, но для объективности надо о них упомянуть. Первым в списке идет отсутствие поддержки метаданных CUE. Данные которые несет в себе мета-тег отражают длину и название трека на оптических носителях (CD, DVD дисках). Также некоторые записи в формате MP3 содержат данные CUE. Мак также использует данные метки.

При сохранение плейлиста используется простой текстовый формат, что исключает поддержку символов кириллицы и прочих специфичных знаков. Если название содержит неподдерживаемый символ, то отображается символ ошибки. Избежать этого можно, если пересохранять плейлисты в формате Unicode. Особенно это актуально для владельцев MacBook Pro, так как им приходится запускать сторонние файлы, что приведет к некоторым проблемам с отображением.
