No bios or windows loading screen.
finally got my board back from RMA set everything up. working fine for a few boots but now all of a sudden I have no bios screen or windows loading screen. computer sits with a blank screen for like 20 secs then poof into windows.
When I try to get into bios during the start up process I get a boot device led. and nothing starts up. any suggestions ?
Providing any assistance would be rather difficult since I have no idea what hardware you are using.
Please provide a full list of your hardware and if possible the BIOS version.
But quick fix would be to do a full clear CMOS with the battery out and thereafter flash your bios to the latest bios for that motherboard.
— hardware —
mobo: CHV
CPU: amd 8150
GPU: 2 x 580gtx
PSU: ocz 1250w
RAM: 16gb corsair
hd: ocz vertex 3
I Just got the board back from a RMA, so it came back with latest bios. also tried the cmos button, computer will no longer post. just getting the boot device led.. will try the battery in the morning by full cmos do you mean moving the jumper ?

Full CMOS clear is the following for me.
Remove all components from the motherboard.
Remove all power connectors from the motherboard.
Remove the battery.
Reset BIOS.
Clear CMOS — using jumpers (Motherboard dependant)
Leave for at least 20 mins — a couple of hours is better.
Once done — rebuild the system using the minimul amount of hardware.
One GPU, one stick of ram and one hard drive.
Boot and see if the system is stable at stock, memtest for each stick of ram at rated specifications as per the product.
Then CPU stability using your application of choice.
And then and only then would I install my OS that I wished to use 24/7

Can’t see boot UEFI? Windows starts with no BIOS screen? Here’s how I fixed it!
I have a Maximus VIII Hero, and an EVGA GTX980TI-SC graphics board installed. I was working on changing from HDMI to DisplayPort ports, and after moving things a few times, I started panicking!
A restart would work, but would go right from Windows back into Windows. with no UEFI splash ROG screen, etc. At least initially. I panicked because eventually when I’d boot, it wouldn’t boot and gave me a Q-Code that indicated something about «can’t find main display», or similar.
This graphics board has 2 DisplayPorts, so I decided I’d try the «other one». And sure, enough, it all works again. It shows my ROG splash, with the OC value, etc. as it should. It booted right up, and had no bad Q-Code.
It seems that the Maximus VIII Hero board and the graphics board decided that one of the ports was the «main port to use for BIOS». Even if you have a single DisplayPort device plugged in, the system may think your other port is the «system» port.
So, if you have a similar issue, with this motherboard / graphics combo or with another one, try another port of the graphics card if you can!

Black screen after windows 10 update, no BIOS splash screen, HDD light off.
I have a ASUS laptop, recently updated to windows 10. It worked well for two weeks. Then it starts to make constant fan noise. I had to restart it (often once is enough) to make it work quietly.
However, after an update on 22th, Aug., the noise appears as expected. So I restarted, but it left me a black screen, a literal black screen.
- No BIOS splash screen, so I cannot run it with safe mode;
- HDD light flashed for one second, then turned off permanently;
- DVD made a click sound, as normal;
- I tried another screen, no input signal;
- I tried unpluging the charger, removing the battery and held the start button for 2 mins to drain out the laptop, then restarted my laptop. It does not work.
Just back to school, need this laptop for all the work!! Please help!!

The main causes observed so far are driver issues, output to unexpected port, and possibly also issues with the Lock Screen app. Please use these steps:
If you see the black screen only after sign-in and you can see a mouse cursor:
- While at the black screen, try using CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to start Task Manager.
- If it becomes visible, try finding LockAppHost.exe on the Details tab and ending the task.
- If this resolves the black screen, use corruption resolution steps (dism, then sfc), and run the all apps PowerShell command.
If this does not work, use File, Run new task in Task Manager to start an Administrator CMD window. Use this to create a new administrator user with the following commands (changing “
” to something of the customer’s choosing):
net user test/add
net localgroup Administrators test /add - This will give you a test user to try, which will confirm if the issue is user or system-specific.
If you see the black screen or have a flickering screen before sign-in :
- Try connecting to different video outputs on the PC. Sometimes a change in driver can cause the video to be sent:
- To a different Adapter: from integrated graphics to a discrete card or vice versa.
- To a different output: from HDMI to DVI, DisplayPort to VGA, or any other combination.
- Try to boot into Safe Mode with Networking or Enable low-resolution video.
- Advanced boot options, Safe Mode with Networking, or Low Resolution Video
- Check Device Manager and look for Display Adapters
- If you see 2 items under Display Adapters, disable to integrated video card (e.g. Intel HD 4000 or AMD Radeon HD 4200) and restart. (try vice versa if it does not work)
- If you see 1 item under Display Adapters, rollback the driver or uninstall the display adapter in Device Manager, and enable the option to delete driver software.
Check the PC or display adapter manufacturer’s site for an updated driver.

Ok, I have two issues with my computer but they go hand in hand, sort of.
The first one is the BIOS boot up screen that usually leads me to Windows. A few months ago, this vanished. I don’t know if it was due to a version of Windows 7 i installed or something but whenever I turned on the PC, the screen would appear blank for a few minutes then go straight to the Windows welcome screen. I thought it was weird, but I didn’t see a problem since it went to Windows so I disregarded it, which looking back is kind of dumb but I didn’t want to risk doing something to the computer in the process.
So a few weeks ago I was trying to partition the hard drive so I can install the Windows 8 preview on it, rebooted the computer and. nothing. It wouldn’t take me to Windows to there’s clearly a problem with the hard drive. I could always get a new one, but there’s still the problem of the vanishing BIOS screen. I googled some troubleshooting tips, and the only thing I could find was maybe the computer was too dusty inside, so I cleaned it out but still got the same results. If anyone has any suggestions for me, please let me know.

I have seen the no Bios screen effect in a computer with two active video cards. I’ll call them A & B
Where a is the first card in the BIOS but B is the primary video card in windows. Sometimes two seperate video cards and sometimes a video card and built-in video.

BIOS screens at boot. are typically controlled within the BIOS settings. Whether a user wants to see such or not is her/his option.
I elect not to see mine.
Even if you are perfect. your computer and your data are NOT. Use a 3d-party backup program .

i do have two video cards on this computer. how can i get it so the BIOS screen will come back on, do i remove one of them?
also I never set it so I could not see the BIOS screen, this happened on its own. Plus I can’t even get to any screen to toggle that option as everything is black.
#5 rotor123
have you tried hooking up to the other card?

It’s not that then, did you try Louis’s suggestion?
As is often the case with computers there is more than one cause for every problem.

During boot try hitting the first key listed.
If that doesn’t work keep rebooting and try the others one at a time.
If you need more help regarding what to look for in BIOS please post your systems motherboard manufacturer/model number.
#10 Burney
Do you have multiple output connectors on your video cards? DVI, VGA, HDMI. If so I would only have one monitor plugged in and switch its connector to see which one is set to the default by your bios. You may want to reboot after each switch.
Also, Is the screan black and you hear the Windows sounds when it boots up? Or is windows just fried and you hear nothing?
I guess the better question is what sounds does your computer make when you boot it?

Assuming that you’re using a computer that isn’t pre-built by a company like Dell or HP, the delete key is generally what you should be furiously pounding immediately after hitting the power to bring up a setting screen for the BIOS. And I do mean furiously; mash that sucker at least four times a second or you might miss the very brief window for reaching the BIOS settings. Once you’re in, you should then be able to flip the BIOS screen setting to on.
If you are using a pre-built computer, the key for getting into the settings can vary wildly. Escape, F1, F2, F10, F11, F12 are all examples that I’ve seen before.

motherboard is a Nforce 680i sli.
The computer i am using is an Alienware model from several years ago, i have tried pressing all the buttons listed here to get into the BIOS screen but to no avail.
The only thing I hear when booting it up is the motherboard’s beep when i first turn on the computer. Windows normally loads after a minute or so, but with my hard drive busted there’s nothing after the beep.

Have you tried resetting the BIOS to defaults?
Here is how to find the the easy way.
Go to Google, Type into the search box alienware (Your Model name) service manual. Look for a result like this
support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/M15x/en/index.html
This is the result for a Alienware® M15x
Notice how the real Dell site starts support.dell.com. Locate the BIOS clear Jumper and try resetting it back to defaults.
See if that helps. There may also be links to a user manual if you need one.
Good Luck
Roger

I’ve got a 680i LT here and there is a clear CMOS jumper on the edge of the board near the round battery.
Turn off the power supply and unplug it.
Connect pins 1 and 2 with a jumper cap.
Count to 10
Put the jumper cap back the way it was.
Plug it in and turn it on and see if you get your BIOS back.
If that does not work, try stripping it to bare bones.
Remove the extra video card.
Remove any other extra devices and cards.
The least you can have connected is video, memory, cpu and a keyboard.
