папка виндовс олд нужна только для отката виндовс и хранения всяких файлов в «моих документах» и прочее. Просто посмотрите нет ли среди файлов нужных Вам (фото, видео, музыка и т.п.) скопируйте из папки и стирайте смело

That folder is a pain in the neck. There is a way to easily get rid of what’s in side it. Actually deleting the folder may require you to boot from a cd or other OS to gain access to the drive from outside of windows. The folder is protected because it’s a system folder that Windows created. Just like you can’t delete the Windows folder.

If you right click on your C drive in the file explorer and click properties from the menu.

Then click on Disk Cleanup.

After Disk Cleanup opens click on «Clean up System Files» located near the bottom of the Disk clean up window

Wait for it to scan.

From the options make sure «Previous Windows Installations» is checked.

Then click delete files

Only do this if you are sure you are not going back to your old windows version.

This will get rid of the contents of the Windows.old folder to free up space. The folder will still be there but it will be empty after.

I got tired of fussing with it and just used Disk Cleanup on mine

If you are adventurous you can try using an elevated Command prompt.

Step 1: Open elevated Command Prompt. To do so, type CMD in taskbar search box or Start search box and then simultaneously press Ctrl+Shift+Enter keys to open Command Prompt as administrator. Click Yes button when you see the UAC dialog.

Step 2: In the Command Prompt, paste the following command and then press Enter key to delete Windows.old folder.

RD /S /Q %SystemDrive%\windows.old

Or to take ownership of a folder if that won’t work.

In the elevated command prompt, type the command you want below, press Enter.
NOTE: Substitute full path of folder or drive with the full path of the folder or drive letter that you want to take ownership of within quotes.

(To grant currently logged on user ownership of)

takeown /F » full path of folder or drive » /R /D Y

(To grant administrators group ownership of)

takeown /F » full path of folder or drive » /A /R /D Y

How exactly are you trying to do this? Since you mention UAC, are you attempting to do this from within Windows?

Please try to explain your scenario of how you’re trying to move the files.

Alright so I’m fixing up my old computer after a Windows 7 SP1 install failed on him and made his computer unable to boot. When trying to move the windows.old files through

I consistently get Access is Denied errors. UAC is off and I have tried other policy and registry editing to get it to go away. Any help/info would be appreciated.

Also, is there a better way to recover the windows.old files and put them into the curent windows files? I did a updated installation on it, and have the Windows.old Files just sitting there, waiting to be implemented.

Again, thanks ahead of time, and any responses are appreciated.

Windows.old files are from a previous installation. Did you do a clean
installation and are you trying to move installed programs from one
installation to another?

If so, you can not do this. Beside the program files themselves,
almost all programs have many needed entries and references to them,
in the registry and elsewhere; if you just copy the program files, you
will not have any of those entries and references. Your programs need
to be reinstalled into the new installation from their original media.

So, I just had to install Win. 7 Ult. 64 bit again, complicated. (Male ware) Luckily, I don’t care, lol about ANYTHING on my computer unless gamesaves. (I got ’em all.) I have a Windows (current) Windows.old (01/01/2012) and Windows.old000 (07/01/2012, yesterday) Which is named 000 because there is already a .old. (Happened before. ) So how can I just, BAM! delete them both?

I get a «Folder Access denied» in the context window, and «You need permission to perform this action.»

Real quick, IDK if this will help, but I remember something in the command prompt to set privileges, idk if it’s relevant.

How do I remove the Windows.old folder?
If you install Windows 7 by performing a custom installation and don’t format the partition during the installation process, files that were used in your previous version of Windows are stored in the Windows.old folder. The type of files in this folder depends on your computer. After you’ve used Windows 7 for a while—for example, one or two weeks—and you’re confident that your files and settings are back to where you want them to be, you can safely reclaim disk space by using Disk Cleanup to delete the Windows.old folder.

Before you use Disk Cleanup, make sure that all of your files and settings are in Windows 7 where you expect them to be. Deleting the Windows.old folder can’t be undone.

Open Disk Cleanup by clicking the Start button . In the search box, type Disk Cleanup, and then, in the list of results, click Disk Cleanup.

If you’re prompted to choose a drive, click the drive you just installed Windows on, and then click OK.

In the Disk Cleanup dialog box, on the Disk Cleanup tab, click Clean up system files.

If you’re again prompted to choose a drive, click the drive you just installed Windows on, and then click OK.

Select the Previous Windows installation(s) check box, and any other check boxes for the files you want to delete, and then click OK.

In the message that appears, click Delete Files.
