Can’t create new folder in windows 10
When right clicking on the desktop or inside a folder the option to create a new folder does not appear, also, when clicking on the «new folder» button on the file explorer or pressing «ctrl + shift + n» does nothing.
I’ve already tried both methods stated in the question «Windows 10 Can’t create a new folder in File Explorer and Can’t right click on desktop»and it had no results.
Please try these methods and see if they help you:
Method 1: Run System File Checker (SFC) scan:
1. Search for ‘command prompt’ using Cortana or Windows Search.
2. From results, right click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
3. Type sfc /scannow command and press Enter key.
4. Let the command complete and then reboot the machine.
Method 2: Reset File Explorer (explorer.exe) process:
1. Press Windows Key + R and type SYSDM.CPL in Run. Click OK or press Enter key.
2. In System Properties window, switch to Advanced tab, click Settings under Performance.
3. Next, in Performance Options, under Processor scheduling, make sure that Adjust for best performance of: is set to Programs.
4. Then in the same window, under Virtual memory, click Settings button.
5. On Virtual Memory page, make sure Automatically manage paging file sizes for all drives option is checked. Click OK, then Apply, OK on rest of windows.
6. Reboot the machine and see if issue is resolved now.

Folders open in new window despite folder option says: open in the same window)
i use windows 7 ultimate x86.
there this problem appeared suddenly.
When i doubleclick on a folder in an explorer windows, it does not open in the same window as it did before,
but it opens a new window.
when i click through a directory tree i suddenly have 7 or 8 open windows, which i dont want.
i want the old behaviour back (every folder is opened in the same window) !
now i know that under folder options there is such an option : «open in the same window» or «open in a new
the strange thing : it still stands on «open in the same window».
i assume any program changed this behaviour, only i dont know which and when and how.
when i change this option from «open in same window» to «open in new window», it has no effect !

no, it wasn’t what you all suggested.
Instead, i found the solution now, and please remeber it, because i suppose you will see it again !
I had, beside the «folders open in new windows when doubleclicked despite folder options say same window» problem, two others, one was that Internet Explorer wouldnt start at all anymore (which wasnt too bad for me since i use Firefox as browser anyway) and then the printer folder in control panel would not contain anything, it was an empty folder, just a blank folder (though i had printers installed).
All three problems were connected, and the solution was simple, but hard to find (for me).
I found it here :
the solution is to create the follwing .cmd file and execute it, after execution imnmediately reboot !
:: 32 bit and 64 bit

after execution and immediate reboot, all problems are gone, everything is ok again.
please note the different path under windows 7 x64 (ProgramFilesx86), therefor the x64 part.
You must use regsvr32 to re-register the two proxy DLLs (actxprxy.dll and ieprxy.dll), thenreboot
You can use the upper batch file (.cmd file) to do this.
You must run this batch file with administrative privileges (right click on the file and chooseRun as administrato r)

I’m not sure of the exact details, but this is what I think I’ve found. Perhaps someone at Microsoft would correct or elaborate on this.
Previously, actxprxy.dll (ActiveX Interface Marshaling Library) was used as the proxy for a multitude of system interfaces, such as IShellFolder and IServiceProvider.
In Windows 7 (and probably Vista also), the GUID of this library has changed from to
Secondly, there is also a new Proxy/Stub provider found in ieproxy.dll of Internet Explorer (IE ActiveX Interface Marshaling Library). Some interfaces that previously used actxprxy.dll are now registered to use ieproxy.dll.
Now various problematic software (such as Vault 3.x) will try to register against actxproxy using the old GUID, and for interfaces now proxied by ieproxy.dll.

It helped me a lot, because noone could really help me, not even here, and i received partially weird
hints of which none helped at all.
only the above batch file helped it.
this will re-appear, so keep that batch file, you will need it from time to time.
Is there a shortcut to open folders up in a new window?
With directories you can right click -> Open in new window , however I would like to know whether there is an easier shortcut, because this is an action that I perform all the time.

Hold down Ctrl and double click the file/folder to open in a new window.
You can also hold Ctrl and hit Enter on a highlighted folder to accomplish the same thing (In case you like to browse with your keyboard)

in shortcut properties, the type target is ‘Folder’, and this open in same window, to change behavior put parameter and path in field ‘Target’:

this change target type to application located to explorer then explorer.exe get’s parameter N to open your custom path to folder in new window.

You can change the settings for Windows Explorer so that it always opens folders in a new window. To do this, start by going into the View tab and then click Options:
When you click on Options, a «Folder Options» window will open. You can then click «Open each folder in its own window» and then click OK or Apply to save the settings:
Once you’ve done this, every time you double-click on a folder it will open in a new window. You can always change this setting back by doing the same thing and selecting «Open each folder in the same window».
A new window opens every time I open a folder in a particular library in File Explorer
One day I was using Adobe Photoshop CC and then I exported a file I had made as a PNG. Normally, when you export a file as a PNG in Photoshop, it opens a new window where the picture was saved, and it also pins that folder to the navigation pane in File Explorer for some reason.
Normally, I would just close the window and my folders would still be working fine. Until every time I opened a folder in Pictures, the same thing would happen. Every time I opened a folder in my Pictures folder, it would open a new window.
Also, notice that the Pictures folder would get pinned to the navigation pane every time I open a folder.
Now, every time I open a folder in Pictures, it opens as a new window. I have «Open each folder in the same window» option turned on and the problem still persists.
This problem only persists in the Pictures folder, the place where I save my Photoshop PNGs. Folders in Documents, Music, and Videos open in the same window and work and open just fine.
TL;DR Every time I open a folder in Pictures, it opens a new window. Folders in Documents, Music, and Videos open in the same window. I think Photoshop is to blame for this.
Note:
I just did a clean install of Windows 10. I ran scans with Bitdefender, Malwarebytes, and Windows Defender and they have found no malware. This problem also happened to me when I was using Windows 8.1.

This issue might occur, when some of the system files got corrupted.
I would suggest you to try perform System File Checker (sfc) scan and check if it helps.
System File Checker is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files.

Open Each Folder In New Window In Windows 10
You can configure File Explorer to open each folder in a new window. This can be done without using third party tools. Today, we will see how you can do it.
In older Windows versions such as Windows 95, Explorer was configured to open each folder in its own window. If you used Windows 95, you might remember this. Starting with Windows 98, and in all subsequent Windows versions, all folders you browse with File Explorer are opened in the same window. It is possible to change this behavior and make File Explorer open each folder in a new window. Let’s see how it can be done.
To open each folder in a new window in Windows 10, do the following.
- Open File Explorer.
- In the Ribbon user interface of Explorer, click File -> Change folder and search options.
If you have disabled the Ribbon using a tool like Winaero Ribbon Disabler, press F10 -> click Tools menu — Folder Options.
This will change the behavior of File Explorer permanently. To restore the default behavior later, enable the option «Open each folder in the same window» on the General tab of the File Explorer options dialog window.
It is worth mentioning that you can open any desired folder in a new window without changing the general options of File Explorer. There are two ways to do it.
First of all, you can use the Ribbon user interface.
- Select the desired folder in the File Explorer file list. You can enable check boxes in File Explorer.
- In the Ribbon, go to the Home tab.
- On the keyboard, press and hold the Ctrl key. Now, click the «Open» command in the «Open» group of the Ribbon. See the following screenshot:The selected folder will be opened in a new window.

Not to sound ungrateful but this is common knowledge.
One of my biggest pet peeves is that even though you can open in a separate window it refuses to remember it’s size and position.
There was a huge bug in Windows XP that had a problem with bagsMRU and so instead of fixing it Microsoft went to using one size and position for every folder you open.
Some genius created ShelFolderFix for windows 7 but it was never updated and you can’t get the source or contact the author.
What we need is a modern equivalent or a registry edit to activate that feature.
Believe me I have researched this and thousands of complaints went to Microsoft and one person finally addressed it in Microsoft Forums who said, no one ever complained about the change up so we never addressed it.
I was hoping someone from at Classic Shell would incorporate it along with a ribbon disable into one package but my request for that was ignored as well.
Even this (in my opinion) horrible option, doesn’t make it possible to open ‘file location folders’ in a new window when doing a search.
Ctrl/shift -rightclick doesn’t work, and this neither. Quite annoying when searching for 1000’s of results over 100’s of network folders.
Writing down the path by hand seems to be the only option in this *perfected* windows 10
