Windows 7 Suddenly Shutdown Reason Code: 0x500ff

The process C:\\Windows\system32\winlogon.exe(ComputerName) has initiated the power off of computer (ComputerName) on behalf of user (ComputerName)\(UserName) for the following reason. No title for this reason could be found

Reason Code: 0x500ff

Shutdown Type: power off

I encounter this issue a month ago and its to hard to find the proper solution about this issue. Its takes a lot of time for me to be able to solve this issue, I’ve searched any possible solutions but I find nothing. The only way solution that comes to my mind is to disabled the shut down button. From the time that I did that the issue will not occur one week ago until now. Any suggestion or comment that can help will be appreciated.

I have the same issue. Same text in my event logs (except my own PC name of course).

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate.

I had Ark Survival Evolved open with my character waiting for something to spawn on a public official server, I was in an audio call in Discord with a friend, I was watching a Twitch stream via Firefox, I had three tabs open to Terraria’s Wiki, and was actively playing Terraria.

Then suddenly a white window flashes in front of my face for a half second, and then every program’s window started to close. then I see the message about Windows is trying to shut down, and shows me a list of programs waiting to close.

Current action I was doing was scrolling via mouse wheel in Terraria

For a while I thought it was AVG initiating these shut downs in the past, so I had uninstalled AVG a while ago, and am using Avast now. Seems it wasnt AVG since my PC has done this again today.

But there is no solution listed there.

This was VERY inconvenient for me, especially with all that I had open at the time. It caused my game character to log out in an unsafe place, I missed out on what a Twitch streamer was saying (which I wanted to hear), and interrupted an audio call I had going with a friend. I multitask, and for my tasks to be interrupted like that, left me feeling VERY frustrated. I want this FIXED!

I have Windows Updates disabled, so that shouldn’t be it.

This is the event log. I dont understand what I am reading here, cause I’m pretty illiterate when it comes to this stuff, I had to have a friend help me locate this text:

I ran tests on the battery and everything seemed fine — I did upgrade the bios though — as dell said it «reported better» — I am still in a wait and see, although the battery does seem like a good answer..

It seems like nobody can figure this out — so I’ll lend a possible explanation: When someone shuts down my Windows server by pressing the hardware power button on the physical machine, this is the event I get in the log, exactly as described as above.

Of course power management is configured to shut my machine down in the event of the power button being pressed, so a possible workaround would be to configure the system to «Do Nothing» in response to the power button. If nobody is tapping the button on your hardware, I’d wonder if there could possibly be an intermittent short or even a big enough spike in EM interference for the motherboard to think someone pressed the button. Try telling the server to ignore the power button and see what happens.
