Save Window Position

My window position is never saved. When I click the «Open message in new window» button, the window is always opened as maximized. When I restore it, its not where it should be. How can I save the Mail window position?

I’m using Mail version 17.8241.41225.0.

Saving the window size/position when opening a message to a new window is easy. Simply follow the steps below on how to do so:

1. Open a message in a new window.
2. Press and hold the Ctrl button on your keyboard and click on the X button at upper right corner of the window to close it.
3. When you open a message in another window, the size/position of the window should be saved.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it doesn’t seem to work.

The main window position is always saved, but the message window isn’t.

Does anyone else have this problem?

If that’s the case, we suggest that you create a new User Profile to check if the issue reoccurs. To create a user profile, follow these steps:

1. Go to Settings. Click Accounts.
2. Select Family & other people.
3. Select the Add someone else to this PC tab.
4. Name the user as Test.
5. Leave the password field blank.
6. Hit Next.
7. Sign in as Test user.

I apologize for not responding sooner.

Holding down ctrl and clicking close on the message window didn’t work.

I haven’t tried creating a new user profile. If I get extra frustrated, I might go through the steps of trying to create a new user profile and setting up Mail again.

Reproducing the issue by creating a new profile would be a good idea to isolate the issue.

If the issue does not happen on the new profile, there could be some broken system components on your current profile. Let’s resolve it by repairing the system following the instructions below:

1. Open an elevated Command Prompt. Right click on Start button > select Command Prompt ( Admin ).
2. Copy and paste the command, Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth. You will get a message » The restore operation completed successfully.»
3. Restart your PC to apply changes.

Please note that this process will take time. You will notice that it’s being stuck on 20%, but it’s normal since it’s checking and configuring necessary changes on the broken components.

Windows 10 Doesn’t Save Window Position

I have upgraded to Windows 10 and after that i have a problem. Windows 10 Doesn’t Save Window Position on the desktop.

Everytime i open File Explorer or any folder shortcut, desktop position of the explorer not remember the position on the screen and will open on another position on the screen.

Problem still appear even after a clean install.

Where could be the problem? Previously in Windows 7 this problem not exist.

I have the same problem since my migration to Windows 10 on all File Explorer windows and also for the Microsoft Edge window!

However, Modern UI and Universal Apps w indows remember their positions correctly .

I have seen this «error» in all versions of Windows 10 ( since Insiders Builds to RTM).

Yes, you’re right. Moder UI and Universal Apps remember correctly their positions.

So, it’s not a singular problem. Many peoples complaints about this problem. I have found another topics.

Therefore Microsoft should be aware of this problem.

I hope a fix will come soon.

I have found an workarround until this problem will be finally fixed.

I have installed ShellFolderFix and problem resolved. Hope that soon Microsoft will release a fix for this problem.

I’ll provide you with some information I observed regarding this behavior under Windows 10.

Windows 10 actually remembers its last window position; this problem seems to be associated with some cascading behavior. The first time you run Explorer after a restart, the window always opens at center/top of your computer screen. The next time you close it and re-open it, it moves one position down/right and so on.

Edit: I just discovered another thread referring to the same issue. Users report changing the taskbar to the top as a workaround. For me, this is not an option, but for others this might help.

Why save the desktop icons
