Windows SDK v7.1 won’t install on i7-3840QM Win 7 Pro 64bit
After installing .Net Framework 4 version 4.0.30319 I’ve been trying to install Windows SDK v7.1. I’ve tried installing from the Microsoft web interface multiple times as well as by downloading and burning 3 different CD’s from ISO images. I’ve also tried a clean boot and install through the web interface but had identical results. The first difference I see when comparing with a successful install I did on an i7-2500k processor is on line 11 of the SDKSetup_7.0.6918.0.log file. Lines 10-12 of the i7-2500k log file (successfully installed) read:
Config_Products_DetermineProductState_Begin: Product: Microsoft Windows SDK for Windows 7
Config_Products_DetermineMSIFeatureState_Begin: MSI Feature: WinSDK.1631
Config_Products_DetermineMSIFeatureState: MSI Feature: WinSDK.1631; Installed: Local; Request: Unknown;
and the log from this failed install on an i7-3840QM reads (differences underlined):
Config_Products_DetermineProductState_Begin: Product: Microsoft Windows SDK for Windows 7
Config_Products_DetermineProductState: Product: Microsoft Windows SDK for Windows 7; Installed: Unknown;
Windows Installer reported no registered source locations for the WinSDKproduct.
The final error message in the log is not very helpful since the file was not installed:
Windows SDK Setup (failed): Installation of the «Microsoft Windows SDK for Windows 7» product has reported the following error:
Please refer to Samples\Setup\HTML\ConfigDetails.htm document for further information.
The log file when installing from the GRMSDKX_EN_DVD.iso is essentially identical to the one generated by the web interface.
The log file when installing from either GRMSDK_EN_DVD.iso or GRMSDKIAI_EN_DVD.iso aborts quickly with the message:
Setup could not find the file WinSDK_amd64\WinSDK_amd64.msi at any of the specified source locations
I’m stumped. Is it just me or are others having problems installing on the new Ivy Bridge chips?

cannot install windows SDK for windows 8.1
I’d like to install the windows SDK (also downloaded from microsoft official website, as «sdksetup.exe») but failed.
When I double click the setup file, a blue figure flashes in the middle of my screen and then disappears and nothing happens.
I have also tried installing with administrator mode, same result.
Thanks for your help.

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.
As per the description, I understand that you are unable to install Windows SDK (Software Development Kit) on your Windows 8.1.
This issue might have occurred due to some third party application conflicts.
I need some information.
- Do you get any error code or error message?
- Have you made any changes to your computer prior to this issue?
- Is there any third party Antivirus Security Software installed on your Computer?
Try the methods.
Method 1:
I suggest you to perform clean boot and try installing the application, using this Microsoft Article because may be a third party application is causing this issue.
NOTE: A clean boot is performed to start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program in Windows. You may also troubleshoot or determine what conflict is causing the problem by performing a clean boot. You must log on to the computer as an administrator to be able to perform a clean boot. Your computer may temporarily lose some functionality when you perform a clean boot. When you start the computer normally, the functionality returns. However, you may receive the original error message, or experience the original behavior if the problem still exists. If the computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may prevent you from following these steps.
Once you perform clean boot do refer to the section “How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting” to boot the computer in normal mode.
Method 2:
I suggest you to refer to the Microsoft Help Article and Downloading the Windows SDK (Software Development Kit) and check if it helps.
You may also refer to the Microsoft Help Article mentioned above for any queries.
Hope this helps. Please let us know the results. We will be happy to assist you further.
Cannot Install Windows SDK
If you are running 64-bit Windows 7 and always update your system using Windows Update, you might encounter the problem as below.
Windows SDK installation failed on Windows 7 and shows the error below.
Windows SDK installation failed on Windows 7 without showing a sign of error.
It may also happen that the SDK installation runs through with a «success» message at the end — but nothing was actually installed. The only way to really find out whether the SDK was installed is to check the respective directory. C:Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.1 or C:Files (x86)SDKs\Windows\v7.1 . If the subdirectory «v7.1» was created and has some content, the SDK was installed. The solution for this problem is the same as for the issue with the error message: Uninstall Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable. (see below)
Resolution: Uninstall Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable installations prior Windows SDK installation
Before the installation, I had the following Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable installations. Note that the x64 version is updated.
Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x64 Redistributable — 10.0.40219 Microsoft Corporation 15.2 MB 10.0.40219
Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86 Redistributable — 10.0.30319 Microsoft Corporation 11.0 MB 10.0.30319
After a read at a post at MSDN Forums, I decided to remove and uninstall both of these redistributable installations.
[Edit:] There is now a description and solution available in the Microsoft Knowledge Base
Thereafter, I was able to install the Windows SDK 7.1 (web installer or ISO installers) completely.
After the installation, I had the following Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable installations. Notice the versions are different.
Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x64 Redistributable — 10.0.30319 Microsoft Corporation 12.1 MB 10.0.30319
Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86 Redistributable — 10.0.30319 Microsoft Corporation 1.29 MB 10.0.30319
Thus, removing the newer Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable installations will fix this problem.
The same problem can occur on Windows XP SP3. I used Start->Settings->Control Panel->Add or Remove Programs to uninstall:
Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86 Redistributable — 10.0.40219
I then re-installed Windows SDK 7.1, this time it completed successfully. Add or Remove Programs now shows:
Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86 Redistributable — 10.0.30319
Windows sdk cannot install

Question
I am not able to install Windows 10 SDK (14393) . I have tried several times the last three days from different desktops on different networks, so i am pretty sure that the problem is not related to poor network connections. I have tried installation through visual studion 2015 and visual studio 2017. And also by sdksetup, where i tried both installation and only downloading (to different locations).
The log indicate a problem with a specific file/cab:

Answers
Thanks — however this did not help in my case, same SDK download/integrity failure errors were observed after I had uninstalled all versions of Windows SDKs from my machine, and exactly the same errors were seen when I tried installing standalone SDK on clean Windows installation, it does not look to be related to VS 2017 RC or to existing installations of Windows SDK.
However I found a workaround that solved my problem — I created Azure VM with region Japan East, and tried downloading SDK for offline installation, and that succeeded. I then copied over installation files from VM to my machine and successfully installed SDK. It seems to be something geographically-related, e.g. could be something with Microsoft download servers configured for region of Denmark, or something with Danish internet gateways.

Thank you for posting in MSDN forum.
For this issue, Let’s see the following error message:
>>Error 0x80091007: Hash mismatch for path: C:\Users\npg\AppData\Local\Temp\
The Hash mismatch means that the Win 10 SDK packages is not complete, some packages are missing or corrupted.
Firstly, please temporarily disable all the AV software and firewall during the setup process.
Then you may try the /layout option for the tools offline installation. It allows you to download the full set of files, please try the following steps:
1. Download from SDKSETUP .exe web installer from Windows 10 SDK
2. Run the following command at a command prompt: SDKSETUP.EXE /layout. After you run the command, you should be prompted for the download location. Enter the location, and then choose Download.
3. This command downloads all the packages for the installation. see as below:
4.When the package download is successful, you should see a Visual Studio screen that says Setup Successful as below:
5. In the file location that you specified, find the executable file and the package folder. This is everything you need to copy to a shared location or install media.
You can now run the installation from the file location or the install media.
If the error still persists after doing the above, please feel free to let me know, I will help you to analyze more.

Hi, Thanks for reply
I have already tried running sdksetup.exe with the layout option, and this also fails. I just repeated the setup as you described with my AV and firewall turned off. Unfortunately, the result is the same. The setup fails when downloading the package (payA059C4F9394E47AFD81C08AB201AB7C4) in Windows Software Development kit, after 10 retries.
Currently, the Windows 10 SDK (10.0.14393.0) does not install successfully on Windows 7.
You can install successfully on Windows 8.1 or Windows 10. Visual C++ projects that depend on an earlier Windows SDK,
such as Windows 10 SDK (10.0.10586.0) or the Windows 8.1 SDK can still be built.
From Programs and Features, select Windows Software Development Kit and click Change, or download and run the Windows 10 SDK (14393) installer.
In the Windows SDK installer, select the «Windows Software Development Kit» and «.NET Framework SDK» features.
Run Visual Studio Installer, click Modify, and then click Install. You do not need to change any feature selections.
In this situation, I need to check the logs to see what blocking this SDK downloading. please use http://aka.ms/vscollect to gather the installation logs. After using it, you will find vslogs.zip from %temp% folder. upload the file to https://onedrive.live.com/ and share the link here.

I am installing on windows 10, so that should not be the problem.

Would you mind going to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update to check if you have installed all the patches? As we know, the prerequisite of installing VS and SDK well is to ensure the Windows update and patches up.

This error indicates that the Windows SDK or Windows Emulator setup invoked by Visual Studio setup has lost internet connectivity and cannot download necessary files. But you have mentioned that tried different desktop and it couldn’t be a network problem.
In this situation, I suggest you could use ISO which matches your VS 2015 (VS 2017 RC doesn’t have ISO image currently), to repair your VS first, then go to Program & Features, select Visual Studio 2015, and select Change. Click Modify, then select the features «Universal Windows App Development Tools» and/or «Emulators for Windows Mobile», and click Update.
