Option 1: If you go to Computer Management, and then to the list of Services, and find VMware Authorization Service, is it listed as stopped? If so you might need to start it

Option 2: Try logging into the Host as a Local Administrator when first installing Workstation, rather than logging in with a Domain ID

Option 3: The issue may be caused also by your security program such an anti-virus or a Windows Firewall /Defender which might have conflicting settings as to not to perform certain tasks. I suggest that you temporary disable the anti-virus and firewall and check the result again. You would need to turn on the security programs again which you had disabled

Option 4: The problem might be linked to a local or domain group policy. Make sure that the local account is set as «local user __vmware_user__» in the local administrators group and is granted the permissions of «Log on locally» and «Log on as a service».

Both settings can be found in the «*Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignments*» branch of either the local or domain group policy.

«The Security Center service can’t be started» error message in Windows 7 or in Windows Vista

Symptoms

You receive the following error message in Windows 7 or in Windows Vista.

The Security Center service can’t be started.

Cause

This issue can occur for the following reasons:

Security Center is not configured to start correctly.

The «log on user» for Security Center is configured incorrectly.

A malware infection is preventing the service from starting or is disabling the service after it has started.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods in the order listed:

Method 1: Make sure that Security Center is configured correctly

Press Win + R keyboard shortcut, type services.msc, and then press ENTER.

If you are prompted for confirmation, click Yes.

Double-click Security Center.

Click the General tab, select Automatic (delayed start) from the Startup type list, click Start, and then click OK.

Now check whether Security Center can be started. If not, start the Remote Procedure Call(RPC) and Windows Management Instrumentation services by using the steps provided above.

Method 2: Start computer in safe mode

Restart your computer, press F8 before the Windows logo appears.

I understand that your laptop keeps getting blue screen with an error message System Service error.

As per the DMP files that you have posted, the error code is 0x0000003b.

It is usually a graphic’s driver (display adapter/video driver), other possibilities include
but are not limited to antivirus/antispyware/security programs and even memory (mapping).

This error has been linked to excessive paged pool usage and may occur due to user-mode graphics drivers crossing over and passing bad data to the kernel code.

So I would suggest you to update graphics/ display adapters from the device drivers.

Method 1: Update the Display Adapters drives from Device Manager:

a) Press Windows Key + R, type devmgmt.msc.

b) Expand the Display Adapters.

c) Click on properties, click on Driver tab.

d) Click Update Drivers button.

e) Click on OK button.

If method 1 fails to work,

Uninstall drivers and reinstall from the manufacturer’s website.

If the drivers are not available for Windows 8, install it in Windows 7 compatibility mode, follow the steps given to install in Compatibility Mode.

Method 2: Install the drivers in Compatibility mode.

Install the display/graphics drivers from the manufacturer’s website. If Windows 8 drivers are not available, you can install Windows 7 drivers in compatibility mode. Follow these steps:

Note: Download the latest drivers from the Manufacturer’s website and save it on to the Desktop.

a) Press the ‘Windows + W’ key on the keyboard.

b) Type compatibility in the search box and then press enter.

c) Click “Run programs made for previous versions of Windows” option from the list appeared in the left side.

d) Select the drivers and install.

how to display startup error message in windows service?

So I wanted to create a windows service that runs a few commands in a batch file.

However, while I assume I can redirect stdout from the subprocess and read out an error message, I can’t seem to find out how I would get that to display to the screen.

when starting a windows service, it gives errors when the service fails to start, so ideally I would like to just use the interface that pops up the other service errors rather than popping up some window of my own or writing a log file.

I used this to get started but it doesn’t seem to have anything on error processing.

He just outputs to a debugger. I can definitely do that, but ideally the person starting the service would want to know if there was an error starting.

Yes, you can redirect the STDOUT of the spawned process. MSDN has an article on that topic:

You can use ReportEvent() , EventWrite() , or TraceEvent() to write log messages to the System Event Log (which is located within Windows’ Control Panel), depending on which logging API you decide to use. Refer to MSDN for more details:

A service is a background task, it should not display its own UIs. Use the system Event Viewer to view log messages. The popup the user sees if the service fails to start is not displayed by the service itself, but by the Service Control Manager.

Starting with Windows Vista, services do not run in the same desktop session as logged in users (Session 0 Isolation), so they cannot display their own UI anymore. If your service must display a popup message, it can use WTSSendMessage() for that. For more complex UIs, it is best to implement that as a separate non-service GUI app that runs in the user’s session, and then the service can launch/communicate with that app as needed.
