Windows experienced an unexpected error. To install windows, restart the installation.

Trying to do a fresh install of windows 8.1 64 bit to my SSD from my USB. I’m doing this because my windows was freezing a lot. My temperatures on everything were fine. replaced my memory a couple of months ago because I believed that it was faulty. I get this message after the installation restarts: «Windows experienced an unexpected error. To install windows, restart the installation». I then tried moving to windows 10 which didn’t make any difference, although I’ve decided that I would prefer too install windows 10 now. It appears after the installation needs to continue to the boot drive rather than the SSD. what I see is the bios screen, with a small spinning windows loading icon, and then after a few seconds, the error

Things I’ve tried to fix it:

Installing the other drivers I have: windows was unstable and I kept getting blue screens, freezing up, unable to launch Far Cry 5, which was the same as before. The blue screens I got were SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION and CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED, which I had never seen previously.
Running a chkdsk on all my drives and the USB: no errors
trying just one of each ram stick rather than both: nothing
formatting the SSD to GPT: nothing
using Rufus instead of the Windows 7 media creation tool to create a bootable USB: nothing
switching to AHCI to IDE: slight difference, in AHCI, the window error would take less time to appear, but with IDE, it would take longer, and it would freeze for a few minutes before it appeared
cleaning all of the drives using diskpart: nothing

Не устанавливается win 10

Копирование файлов Windows(ok),подготовка файлов для установки(ok),установка компонентов(ok),установка обновлений(ok),завершение(перезагрузка).

Идет подготовка устройств (примерно 15%) после этого перезагружается компьютер, потом ошибка

The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click «OK» to restart the computer, and then restart the installation.

Так и было и при обновлении, и при чистой установки.

Извлеките SD-карты из карт-ридера вашего планшета, ноутбука или персонального компьютера. По возможности, отключите все внешние устройства, оставив только самые необходимые из них: мышь, клавиатуру, монитор. Если есть возможность использования Ethernet-соединения и позволяет конструкция ноутбука, отключите Wi-Fi и Bluetooth (некоторые модели это позволяют сделать при помощи специальных кнопок или сочетаний клавиш).

Компьютер неожиданно перезагрузился, или возникла непредвиденная ошибка

В некоторых случаях во время чистой установке системы, выполнении обновления предыдущей версии Windows или при установке очередного билда (версии) Windows 10 может появиться ошибка «Компьютер неожиданно перезагрузился, или возникла непредвиденная ошибка. Невозможно продолжить установку Windows». При нажатии кнопки OK, компьютер опять перезагружается, и снова появляеться окно с этой же ошибкой, и так по кругу… Что делать в таком случае, как продолжить установку Windows 10?

Данная проблема может появится после очередной перезагрузки системы в процессе одного из этапов установки (или обновления) ОС и выглядит следующим образом:

Как я уже говорил, при появлении этой ошибки не помогает ни нажатие на кнопку OK, ни повторный запуск установки системы – ошибка все равно зацикливается.

Чтобы исправить проблему нужно:

1. Прямо на экране с ошибкой нажать сочетание клавиш Shift + F10
2. В открывшемся окне командной строки нужно запустить редактор реестра, выполнив команду regedit
3. В окне редактора нужно перейти в раздел HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\Status\ChildCompletion
4. В правой панели нужно найти параметр setup.exe. Скорее всего он равен 1. Меняем его значение на 3 и сохраняем изменение.

Нужно закрыть редактор реестра и перезагрузить компьютер комадной: shutdown -r -t 0

После перезагрузки процесс установки/обновления Windows 10 должен нормально продолжиться.

Данная проблема характерна не только для Windows 10. Этот способ решения проблемы с прерванной установки системы одинаково эффективно работает и Windows 7 и Windows 8.1.

I have bought Windows 7 to upgrade from Vista Home Premium.

I am on SP1 etc and sounds like everything should be fine for the upgrade.
However, when running the install I get the following error

Windows Setup experienced an unexpected error — Error Code: 0x0

I have hunted forums etc and the suggestion is to Disable DMA. When I follow the following steps.
1. Device Manager
2. Expand IDE ATA/ATAPA contollers
3. Click on Advanced Settings tab for IDE Channel

At this stage there is nothing, simply states 2 Supported Devces. The Devices are not listed and therefore no Enable DMA checkbox.

I have seen other suggestions regarding Intel Application Accelerator and uninstalling this. However, I am unable to determine if this is installed.

Any pointers very much appreciated here.

I finally had success by upgrading my BIOS to the latest version.

Win 7 now fully installed.

Hi,
When did this occur, during the intial setup or did the setup fail and rollback to Vista?

Vista Home Premium will only in-place upgrade(migrate everything) to Windows 7 Home Premium and Ultimate. Is your new version correct?

Is this an in-place upgrade or a clean installation over Vista?

Did you run the Win 7 Upgrade Advisor? get it here.

Any reason that you have not applied Vista Service Pack 2?

Are there any problems that you are or have experienced with the Vista installation?

The win 7 upgrade advisor says all is fine.

I am upgrading using Win 7 Home Premium designed for Vista upgrade — so fine here.

No reason to go to SP2 as SP1 is what the upgrade advisor suggests.

The issue happens during the insall, when copying temp files.

I think the fix is clear elsewhere — disable DMA. My problem is I cannot from device manager as this option is not available, so assumption is that Intel Application Accelerator us handling this but can’t find it to uninstall.

Basically I need to find out how to disable DMA and then I think this will work.

This error could also occur if there are hard disk errors. But, I am hestitant to suggest running chkdsk if you are not experiencing any issues currently.

So, you would like to do an in-place upgrade?

Have you confirmed that your anti-virus software that is installed is compatible with Win 7? It may need to be upgraded. But, it could be preventing disk activity. Disable it for an in-place upgrade or uninstall it and reinstall the Win 7 version.

Are there any other disk utilities installed that would hamper disk activity?

If the Intel Application Accelerator were installed it would be listed in the programs list to uninstall. That was an XP only app, replaced with new methods by Intel.

Do you have these folders on your C:\ drive
C:\$Windows.

If you really wish, from device manager, IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller, expand, right-click channel (for the target drive or all), properties, advanced settings, uncheck «enable DMA». . I don’t recommend this without identifying the problem, but it’s your computer.

From your description, I understand that an unexpected error stating “Windows Setup experienced an unexpected error . To install Windows, restart the installation” is received when upgrading Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008.

This problem occurs because the Windows Server 2008 installation does not support the system volume as a mirrored dynamic volume.

To resolve this problem, break the software mirror before you perform the upgrade to Windows Server 2008 . To break the software mirror, follow these steps:

Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, click Computer Management, and then click Disk Management.

Right-click the system volume from which you are booting, and select Break Mirrored Volume.

For example, if the system volume is mirrored from Disk0 to Disk1, right-click the system volume on Disk0, and then select Break Mirrored Volume.

Click Yes, and then close Disk Management.

Upgrade Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008 .

After the upgrade is complete, use Disk Management to re-establish the software mirror.
