Windows speech recognition error language

Windows Speech Recognition — Error: language configuration not supported

Hello everyone, I hope this is the right subforum to ask this question, I googled alot, but none of the solutions I have found work. Perhaps someone might be able to help me here. I have a Sony Vaio with a built in microphone, which works perfectly. I’m running Win 7 Home Premium x64. Now when I first started Windows Speech Recognition it guided me trough the tutorial, everything worked perfect, the mic understood everything. But after the tutorial was finished and I acutally wanted to start using the program I get the following error, and it instantly closes:

********
Speech Recognition could not start because the language configuration is not supported

The recognizer language must match the language of the user interface. Please change the recognizer language in the Speech Recognition control panel under Advanced Options
********

One thing I saw in a thread and that I tried was

Control Panel > Clock, Language, and Region > Region and Language: Changed Format to English (US)
Changed Location to United States
Changed Keyboard layout to English (US)
Changed System Locale to English (US)

The Speech Recognition Language Control Panel > Ease of Access > Speech Recognition > Advanced speech options:
Changed Language to «Microsoft Speech Recognizer 8.0 for Windows (English — US)»

I tried all this for the UK version too, but it didn’t work either. When I try the option «Train Profile» it works perfectly again. Others said that re-installing Windows solves the problem. No way, I have tons of Gigs of programs installed. Is there really no way to solve this? The laptop is clean, no viruses or spyware, I didn’t do any registry hacks, didn’t tweak anything, I only did windows updates. I appreciate any help, thanks.

Speech Recognition Error: The recogniser language must match the language of the user interface.

I had this problem myself and found a number on the web with the same issue, but none of them were able to find an answer. Writing this in order to answer my own question for the benefit of future people.

I have not used speech recognition before on this machine (Windows 10 Home 64-bit v1903). Attempting to load the Windows Speech Recognition app resulted in the following error:

Speech Recognition could not start because the language configuration is not supported.

The recogniser language must match the language of the user interface. Please change the recogniser language in the Speech Recognition control panel under Advanced Options.

[OK]

The only languages I could find in any settings anywhere were English (Australia), except for the language taskbar option which showed options for English (Australia) US Keyboard (active), English (UK) UK Keyboard, and English US.

The speech recognition language was set to English (Australia). The Speech Recognition module of the English (Australia) language pack was installed. English (Australia) was the only installed language pack, Preferred Language or display language. Region and regional format were set to Australia. Keyboard was set to English (Australia) US keyboard. I tried setting «Override for default input method» to English (Australia) or Use Language List but neither helped.

This is what fixed it for me, though there are two parts to it and I’m not sure which was the active ingredient:

  1. I installed the language packs for English (US) and English (UK) under Start Menu > [Windows] Settings > Time & Language > Language > Add a preferred language. That is, the two keyboard languages which were showing up under the Language Bar despite not being listed as installed. If this problem affects you, it may or may not be a different set of languages causing the problem.
  2. Once they finished installing, I uninstalled them by clicking on them in the same settings window and clicking Remove.
  3. Under Start Menu > [Windows] Settings > Time & Language > Speech I enabled the «Recognise non-native accents for this language» checkbox.
  4. I tried loading the Windows Speech Recognition app again and it worked this time. It continued to work setting «Recognise non-native accents for this language» back to Disabled.

Speech Recognition could not start because the language configuration is not supported.

So I’ve been trying to get Cortana to work on my Windows 10 PC. However, even after setting all languages and regions to English (US), the speech recognition software refuses to launch.

A lot of solutions said that you have to go to Control Panel -> Speech Recognition -> Advanced Settings, but the Advanced Settings link is missing. I only have Control Panel Home and Text to Speech listed.

I’ve tried running ctfmon and adding it to the registry, but that does not work.

Any ideas on how to get this mysterious Advanced Settings link visible?

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand your concern and will guide you in the right direction.

Windows Speech Recognition has been included in Windows 10 with advanced feature of Dictation into applications that weren’t supported previously with Windows 7.

Windows Speech Recognition recognizes your speech accurately and empowers users to interact with their computers by voice. It was designed for people who want to significantly limit their use of the mouse and keyboard while maintaining or increasing their overall productivity. You can dictate documents and emails in mainstream applications, use voice commands to start and switch between applications, control the operating system, and even fill out forms on the Web.

I suggest you to perform the following steps to check the result:

1. Go to Control Panel ->Speech Recognition.

2. Click Advance Speech options on the left panel.

3. Change the Language to another option.

4. Uncheck the «Review documents and mail to improve accuracy.

‘Speech Recognition Error: Speech Recognition could not start because the language configuration is not supported’

OP: Windows Speech Recognition

Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 with Windows 7. I have just set up Windows Speech Recognition and completed the setup and tutorial. I went to use it and it says:

Speech Recognition Error

Speech Recognition could not start because the language configuration is not supported.

The recognizer language must match the language of the user interface. Please change the recognizer language in the speech recognition control panel under advanced options.

I dont know what this means, I have tried changing the settings under:

Control Panel>Ease of Access>Speech Recognition>Advanced Speech Options

But nothing seems to work.

Saw this in another forum and it WORKS!

I had the same problem. Strangely i had some other symptoms. I am using Turkish Q keyboard as primary and english U.S. as secondary. As my speech recognition broke down, i saw that my office word and outlook mulfunctioned in terms of keyboard language. I was able to use Turkish Q keyboard on any application but when i open up outlook or word, language changes to english.

It used to happen on xp to.. so i enabled language bar to set it back to TR when i am using these applications. But language bar never displayed itself on taskbar or desktop. So i look for this problem and saw that you can fix this issue via regedit.

go to computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

right click the right pane and a «new string value» value name can be default, value data should be set to «ctfmon»=»CTFMON.EXE»

After that i rebooted my machine and language bar came to the taskbar. I went under the applications and change language back to TR. And there was a suprise for me. Long gone speech recognition was back at the top center of the screen. (i tried everything else that people suggested nothing worked)

I am not sure but maybe language difference between applications caused my problem. Or maybe ctfmon caused it. Try this one.

i hope this is the case for you and you can fix it too..

Speech recognition is not supported in the current language

Remember — This is a public forum so never post private information such as email or phone numbers!

  • Programs you are having problems with speech recognition
  • Error messages Speech recognition is not supported in the current language
  • Recent changes you made to your computer no
  • What you have already tried to fix the problem no

You could try changing the locale to a different one, restart, change it back to your preferred locale and see if this sorts out your problem.

Refer this article for help.

The idea behind that is to just make sure that the locale settings on your system are properly applied as it might have been messed up somewhere either by another program or could be anything else.

Alternatively you could try this step.

1. Open Control Panel then Speech Recognition Options.
2. In the upper right of the Speech Recognition Option window click Advanced Speech Options.
3. Remove the checkmark next to, ‘Allow computer to review your documents’.
4. Click Apply.

If the above does not work, go back to Speech Recognition Options and click Train Profile and see if you are able to Train. Failing that, click the New button and try creating a new User Profile with a new name. If that works, you will be able to delete your first profile.

Hope this helps.
