Free Spider Solitaire for Windows
An addictive time-killer
Spider Solitaire brings Solitaire to modern computers with a few special customizations that take it a step further. It does this while maintaining the original feel of the game.
Sit back, relax, and play solitaire
Free Spider Solitaire brings the classic game to PC with graphics that are easy on the eyes.
Free Spider Solitaire brings a simple concept to PC. The card game, which you play alone, is made much more engaging and easy to play on this platform. There’s no need to bust out two decks and deal out the cards yourself because the computer does that work for you. You’re left to think about strategies and relax while playing.
This title comes with a few additional features left out of similar programs. There are ways to customize your decks and the background you play on. Also, you can purchase in-app content.
The visuals are very crisp in all their 2D glory. Because of the simplicity of the game, it can maintain a clear and understandable interface, and this program maintains a sleek look to it while including fun visuals in every match. It’s a great time killer that comes with a leaderboard. Sure, you’re likely the only one playing on your computer, but it’s one reason people end up addicted to this game. You find yourself striving to beat your previous high score.
The application does have a few problems. Some purchases feel a bit forced. Also, in the long run, it can get quite repetitive. The lack of unique features for the game itself can make it feel a bit mundane. Finally, in the end, it’s all about luck, but as the saying goes, play the hand you’re dealt.
Where can you run this program?
This game runs on Windows XP and later.
Is there a better alternative?
No. This title has everything you need to enjoy playing a round of Solitaire or two.
Our take
This program is another simple iteration of the card game. It’s a great choice for killing some free time.
Should you download it?
Yes. If you’re looking for a game that will kill some time, and doesn’t require an internet connection, this is the title for you.

Spider Solitaire is an age-old game that you can now play on your computer. While it’s easy to learn on the computer, it lacks the feeling of using actual cards.
Classic card game
Spider Solitaire is one of the most common games on Windows computers, as it is one of the oldest ones available to play. The game is easy to learn, yet tricky to master, thanks to simple rules and gameplay. As with many forms of solitaire, you have to build pillars of cards in the right order to complete the suit.
Train your brain
Spider Solitaire is a logic-based game, requiring you to move and rearrange stacks of cards in an attempt to clear the table as fast as possible. There is a timer available to track how long a round lasts. You can also view moves made and your score.
Unlike other logic games such as Minesweeper or Chess, there is little strategy or luck involved when playing. Matching numbers in ascending order as you attempt to complete a suit is a better way to start training your mind.
Rules
Spider Solitaire is called as such because of the eight piles of cards, similar to the legs of a spider, instead of the standard seven. Move cards from one column to another as you create a collection of any suit in ascending order, from ace to king before you can clear it from the table. Once you remove the top face-up card from a column, the one below it will flip over. This reveals a new card that you can move around or move other numbers to.
Customisation
While playing Spider Solitaire, you don’t have to stare at the same background or card backs all the time. You can set these to different colours. The game is straightforward to play but will require practice to master. This makes it a great way to start training your brain to follow basic logic by moving the cards around as you clear the table.
Spider Solitaire Free for Windows
Softonic review
Download Spider Solitaire from the web
The classic Spider Solitaire game that wasted so many hours of my life has been absent form recent Windows builds. Fortunately, the Windows 10 App Store has come to the rescue, offering numerous apps to fill the gap — and that is exactly what Spider Solitaire Free provides.
Online Solitaire
First up, a little myth busting, Spider Solitaire Free is not completely free. You can play it without paying, but there is a $2.49 Deluxe upgrade if you don’t want ads. Not necessary, but reasonable if you enjoy the free version and play a lot.
The basics are the same as the Windows classic. Your goal is (theoretically) simple: complete runs of card suits. Once a suit is complete, it is neatly placed at the bottom of the screen. Depending on the difficulty you pick, you must handle one, two, or four suits — and despite how easy it sounds, it gets difficult quickly.
The rules of Spider Solitaire Free have you starting with ten stacks of cards. Four of these stacks have six cards with the bottom one turned face up, while the other six contain five with one face up. You also get 50 cards to deal out in 10s (one on to each stack) whenever you get stuck.
Tap and drag
You must order these cards from King to Ace. It is possible to place a card of any suit on top of another as long as it is one number lower (so 8s on 9s, 3s on 4s). However, you cannot move piles of cards with mixed suits. This can make the game tricky as you juggle the various cards, trying to order them and make space.
Depending on the device you are playing on, you can either click or tap and drag cards around the table to place them. This works well, but unfortunately the display does not keep things as simple. Overly large cards regularly make it hard to see cards in the stack, this makes planning moves an unnecessary struggle.
Add to this more ads that are necessary, and Spider Solitaire Free feels like it is trying to sabotage itself.
Should be better
If you need a game of Spider Solitaire then Spider Solitaire Free should fill the gap. But it is a flawed version of great solitaire game, and that shouldn’t happen in 2016.
