Version 6d

  • That weird small grey triangle (part of the smoke effect mesh) that appears when you smoke is now GONE!

Craft your own cigarettes/cigarillos/cigars out of loose Tobacco. Recipes added to craft and breakdown smoke-related items.

Addiction system reworked. Smokeables now «hijack» Coyote Tobacco to properly trigger addiction. An unfortunate but necessary workaround to get smokeables working correctly.

Coyote Tobacco Chew changed to Tobacco. Using Tobacco applies a buff of ONLY AGL +1 for 120 seconds (down from 240 seconds, and no more perception or sleep effects).

Due to the reworked addiction system, special smokeable effects (such as Luck, Strength, Intelligence, Charisma, etc.) now have their own individual effects that show on the Pip-Boy effects screen.

Opening cigarette packs, cartons now adds an empty version of each object directly to your inventory instead of dumping it on the ground.

Furthermore, like the empty packs and cartons, when you’ve finished smoking, the appropriate butt (cigarette butts, cigarillo butts, cigar butts) will be added directly to your inventory instead of dumping it on the ground.

Coyote Tobacco Withdrawal renamed to Nicotine Withdrawal. Withdrawal effects have been tweaked again (AGL -1, CHR -1, PER -1, END -1). Somewhat significant debuffs to balance it with the abundance of smokeables you can find in-game.

Tweaked miscellaneous cigarettes/packs/cartons conversion script that would cause crashing when buying multiples of those items from vendors (caused by the RemoveMe function within the Begin OnAdd script).

Added Nicotine Effect that lasts for 360 seconds in total — will give you a brief amount of time before Nicotine Withdrawal kicks in.

Cigarettes/packs found in packs/cartons are reduced from 1-4 to 1-3.

Vendor item list modifications removed.

Version 5c

  • Added recipes for breaking down any smoking item to Tobbaco (Loose) misc. item, which can be used to craft other smoking items.
  • Cigarettes and Lucky Cigarettes have a new PER +1 effect to bring them up to par with Cigars and Cigarillos.

Version 5b

  • Now cigarettes/cigars/cigarillos all have a delay between the time the item is burned out and when the actual nicotine effects wear off.
  • Thanks to Munkki378 for the tip to resolve this issue!
  • Nicotine remains for 480 seconds overall.
  • Skill boosts only occur for the first 240 seconds of smoking (same as all other vanilla chems).
  • At 240 seconds, your smoking item will burn out and you will be left with a blank Nicotine effect in your STATS to simulate nicotine in the bloodstream.
  • At any point after your smoking item burns out, you are free to light up any other smoking item (even with the the blank Nicotine effect in place).
  • Addiction fix and rebalancing. To account for the abundance of smoking items you can obtain throughout the game, I’ve increased the penalties for Nicotine Addiction.
  • Nicotine Addiction: AGL -2, CHR -2, PER -1

Version 5

  • Fixed issue with Blade bug fix patch that would allow you to freely take on Luck/Strength/Intelligence effects by smoking a Lucky/Cigarillo/Cigar while already smoking.

Version 4e

  • Now includes disappearing addiction fix by Blade1634.
  • The reason for the disappearing addiction in previous versions was due to the following.
  • To my understanding, the game isn’t designed to have a single addiction triggered/alleviated by more than 1 item.
  • For instance, if you got Nicotine Addiction due to smoking cigarettes, trying to use Cigar (despite it also using the same addiction) would cause the game to glitch and make the addiction disappear.
  • To fix this, all smoking items use the same base effect, and special stats such as LCK, INT, and STR are separated.

Version 4d

  • Re-added in the meshes and textures that I forgot with 4c. This version is meant to fix the addiction issues with previous issues by simply leaving the vanilla addiction effect untouched.

Version 4c

  • Modified addiction entries. Hopefully fixes the invisible addiction effects.

Version 4b

  • Added sounds into archive because I forgot to add them for v4.

Version 4

  • Tidied up various IDs and renamed numerous files, rearranged file and folder structure for clearer identification.
  • Fixed message for lucky cigarette retrieval.
  • Updated empty cigarette pack icon.
  • Added cigars and cigarillos.
  • Modified cigar and cigarillo textures to possess proper glow, etc.
  • Updated cigarette butt world model’s texture to have proper stain on the back of the filter.
  • Added new usable cigarettes (and the packs and cartons), cigars, and cigarillos to various leveled item lists. You now have a chance to find various smokes in loot and from various vendors (including some casinos).
  • Fixed normal maps for all models.

Version 3e

  • Changed cigarette boosts. Regular cigarettes give you +1 to CHR and AGL.
  • New lucky cigarette behaviour. When you get a «lucky» from a cigarette pack, you will actually recieve a new type of cigarette named ‘Cigarette (Lucky)’.
  • Lucky cigarettes have a new icon and give you +1 to LCK in addition to the regular cigarette effects.

Version 3d

  • Rewritten scripts for the amount of cigarettes you can find in a pack or carton.
  • The higher your luck, the more likely you’ll find 2-4 cigarettes/packs in a pack/carton. Otherwise, with lower luck, you’ll typically get 1-2 cigarettes/packs, but still have a chance to get more on a lucky ‘roll’.
  • Modified lucky cigarette/pack script as well. Now you have a higher chance of getting a ‘lucky’.
  • New models and icons for cigarette butts, empty cigarette packs and cartons.
  • Modified misc. and converted aid cigarette entry’s world model to show up as an unused cigarette.

Version 3c

  • Just some fun and minor tweaks.
  • Opening cartons and packs of cigarettes now drop an empty carton/pack at your feet.
  • When you’re finished smoking, you will drop a cigarette butt (with a new model and texture by me) at your feet.
  • Toned down effects to be more in line with vanilla chems. Smoking gives you CHR +1 and LCK +1. Addiction causes END -1, PER -1 and CHR -1.
  • «Tobacco Addiction» changed to «Nicotine Addiction».
  • Cleaner, redrawn icons by yours truly.

Version 3b

  • Removed additional unneeded Courier’s Stash master dependency.
  • Fixed loose cigarette, pack, and carton barter values. Respectively, they’re worth 1, 10, and 50 caps.

Version 3

  • Changed names of cartons and packs to be more organized. The names of the items are as follows: Cigarette, Cigarette Pack, and Cigarette Carton.
  • Completely rewrote deterioration script. Now cigarette burning relies entirely on timescale. Cigarettes continue to ‘burn’ throughout sleeping, waiting, and fast travelling.
  • NOTE: You won’t see the condition of the lit cigarette decrease anymore, but when the effects of the tobacco ends, the cigarette will be gone as well.

Version 2c

  • Cigarettes now last for 3 minutes (up from 2 minutes in v2). Tobacco effects still last for 4 minutes (240 seconds, the same as any other regular chem in the game).
  • Rewritten script and behaviour for ‘lucky’ cigarette/pack retrieval. It is now determined entirely by your Luck points.
  • For reference, a character with 10 points in Luck will get a 35% chance of getting an extra cigarette/pack in their packs/cartons.

Version 2b

  • Tweaked cigarette sizzle sound. New cigarette put out sound.
  • Tweaked scripts again. Now when you light up a cigarette, you can go to your APPAREL inventory and see the lit Cigarette immediately without having to put down and re-raise your Pip-Boy.
  • Cartons and packs of cigarettes now randomly give between 1 to 4 packs/cigarettes respectively.
  • There is a 10% chance of finding a ‘lucky’ extra pack/cigarette when you unpack a carton/pack. This chance is increased by 1% for every Luck point your character has.

Version 2

  • Tweaked and added new scripts. Addiction actually works properly now.
  • Loose cigarettes found in the Mojave should turn into usable Cigarettes.
  • You can no longer ingest multiple cigarettes. Attempting to use another cigarette while you’re already smoking one will give you a message that says «You’re already smoking a cigarette,» and will not subtract a cigarette from your inventory.
  • Because of the way Tobacco effects work now, when it wears off, you will see the default chem wear-off effects (with the short funky visual and audio effect).

New Vegas Script Extender is required to start your smoking addiction.

Light Up and Smoke Those Cigarettes is also available for Fallout 3.

Ever wished you could actually smoke the contents of those Cartons of Cigarettes or Packs of Cigarettes in the Mojave Wasteland? Now you can!

Cigarette cartons and packs are now located in the AID section of your Pip-Boy . Open them up (with a simple click) and see how many smokes are inside.

Smoking is now as easy as using any other AID item in your inventory. There are no cumbersome items or menus to fiddle with. To smoke, click a cigarette, cigarillo, or cigar to light it up and enjoy.

Cigars and cigarillos can be found at vendors or while scavenging. Alternatively, use a workbench to craft cigarettes, cigarillos, or cigars yourself with loose Tobacco.

There are also new custom sound effects for opening/unwrapping cartons/packs, sizzling, burning out, and a satisfying flick of the lighter, to make every step of the smoking process enjoyable.

Unpacking your cigarettes

Not all cartons or packs found are pristine. The number of cigarettes within packs, and the packs within cartons, is based on your Luck stat. The higher your luck, the more likely you’ll find 2-3 cigarettes/packs in a pack/carton. With lower luck, you’ll typically get 1-2 cigarettes/packs, but you still have a chance to find more on a lucky ‘roll’ (more details below).

When you open a carton or pack, an empty carton/pack (with a brand new model!) is added to your inventory (0 weight).

Your lucky cigarette

You also have a chance of finding an extra pack when you unpack a carton, or a «lucky cigarette» when you open a pack. This chance is also determined by your Luck points.

Smoking a lucky cigarette will give you +1 to Luck, in addition to regular cigarette effects. Save it for last!

Visible smoking

Starting to smoke a cigarette, cigar, or cigarillo, will automatically add and equip a visible lit version of that smoke on your character. You can only smoke one item at a time.

Smoking stats bonuses/effects

While smoking, Tobacco effects will appear in the STATS section of your Pip-Boy.

Cigarettes: CHR +1, AGL +1
Lucky Cigarettes: CHR +1, AGL +1, LCK +1
Cigars: CHR +1, AGL +1, INT +1
Cigarillos: CHR +1, AGL +1, STR +1

These effects will remain for 120 seconds.

Lit cigarettes/cigarillos/cigars will burn out at 120 seconds.

From the time you begin smoking, a Nicotine Effect will remain in your system for 360 seconds, giving you a brief window of time between the buffs ending and the time you will experience Nicotine Withdrawal effects (if you are addicted).

At any point after your smoking item burns out, you are free to light up any other smoking item.

When your smoke has burned out, a burn-out sound effect will play, and a message will appear to notify you that you are finished smoking. Also, an appropriate smoke butt is added to your inventory (0 weight).

Addiction

There is a chance of addiction when smoking. This addiction modifies the already existing «Coyote Tobacco Addiction» and changes it to «Nicotine Addiction».

To account for the abundance of smoking items you can obtain throughout the game, the penalties for Nicotine Addiction are more severe than in the Vanilla game.

Nicotine Addiction: AGL -1, CHR -1, END -1, PER -1

Curing this addiction is already covered by the vanilla addiction removal scripts. So, to alleviate your Nicotine Addiction, simply visit a doctor, use Fixer for a temporary fix, or perhaps just. light another one up.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

Shorter Chem Wear-Off Effects is highly recommended if you’re a chain smoker because of this mod.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

Why do my cigarettes still show up in the miscellaneous section of my Pip-Boy? / I can’t use cigarettes.

Typically, if you ever find cigarettes/packs/cartons in the Miscellaneous section of your inventory, it means another mod is overriding this one. Move the mod down to the bottom of your load order.

My cigarettes/cigars/cigarillos are not positioned correctly in my character’s mouth.

The cigarette/cigar/cigarillo can appear misaligned on certain player models. There’s unfortunately no way to account for all character models when concerning smoking item positioning as it is linked to a bone on the character model. Depending on how you modified your characters face, smokes can appear misaligned.

For cigars, due to their large size, they will pretty much never look ‘right’ when they’re placed in your mouth. This is an unavoidable issue.

However, as for cigarettes and cigarillos, modifying their position is an easy fix that you can do yourself. View the instructions below:
