Putting your system in Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue.

Please provide the KB article of the update that fails to install.

i want to try this update to be install but unfortunately it didnt install , why it didnt install ?

To anyone interested on how I fixed this:

I read up on what update KB3024777 was and I read that it removes the a previous update named KB3004394. So I uninstalled KB3004394 and it allowed me to to successfully install KB3024777.

that is not the problem the windows updates are not corrupted it has to do with Windows XP I had one that sent me to this article

To install this update, you must have Windows Installer 3.1 or a later version installed on the computer.

So is that what we need to do install this when it says this

It seems that you receive error 80070005 during windows updates.
This error code 80070005 usually means that you do not have enough permission to install updates. Access can be denied if you are logged on to the computer as a standard user and this account does not have the proper permissions to install updates.

1. Which update are you trying to install?
2. Do you receive any error message?
3. Did you make any changes on the computer prior to the issue?

«Windows Update Encountered an Unknown Error» How can I get Windows updates to install?

My computer has not been updated for more than a month. When I run Windows Update, it shows that 16 updates, including those related to security and function, are ready to install. I tell it to go ahead and do so, and it simply tells me the updates were not installed with a worthless error message: «Windows Update Encountered an Unknown Error»

I ran MicrosoftFixit.wu.LB.25268956865207935.1.1.Run.exe and it returned the message, «Repair Windows Update Components: Not Fixed» (another highly useful and informative Microsoft error message). Microsoft FixIt «Explore Additional Solutions» is an equally worthless Web page with no specific information whatsoever—only useless generalities.

I downloaded Windows6.1-KB947821-v22-x64.msu and ran that, and then restarted my computer, but that did not fix the problem either.

Here are some notes that may help resolve problems encountered when installing Windows Updates.

The process of installing updates comprises downloading, installing and configuring the operating system to use the new updates. Some updates require the computer to be restarted and when this occurs configuring occurs as the system is shut down and is completed when the computer is restarted. It is important not to interrupt the configuration process as configuration involves making changes to the registry. If interrupted, the result can be a computer that will not boot.

A lot of problems arise from setting Windows Update to automatically update. You may prefer to change this setting. Select Start, All Programs, Windows Update, Change Settings. Under Important Updates is a box showing the current setting. Click on the Arrow down to the right and change the selection to “Check for Updates but let me choose whether to download and install them” and click on OK.

If you encounter problems updating or you are not using the Automatic Update you should manually update by selecting Start, All Programs, Windows Update, Check for Updates. Check the boxes before the updates you want to install, click on Install and click again on Install in the next window and the process of installing starts. You should let the process proceed without interruption. Multi-tasking at the time updating is in progress is unwise. The progress window will tell you what is going on. You need to be patient.

If you have a number of updates to install break the task of updating into two or more tasks. If you have been having problems with Windows Update run Disk CleanUp (or better still cCleaner) and Disk Defragmenter ( or better still Defraggler) before installing any large download.

If the measures above fail to resolve your problem select Start, All Programs, Windows Update, View Update History and post the Failure Code and Update reference number to the Windows Update Forum at Microsoft Answers.

Windows Update Encountered Unknown Error-Code#80070658

When running the WINDOWS UPDATES, the process stops and the following message appears.

I cannot find any answer for the this error code number.

Unable to install updates in Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2

Note These files are not at risk of infection. If you scan these files, serious performance problems may occur because some files may be locked. If a specific set of files is identified by name, exclude only those files instead of the whole folder. Sometimes, the whole folder must be excluded. Do not exclude any of these items based on the file name extension. For example, do not exclude all files that have a .dit extension. Microsoft has no control over other files that may use the same extensions as these files.

Important: While performing chkdsk on the hard drive if any bad sectors are found on the hard drive when chkdsk tries to repair that sector, the data available on that might be lost.
