Computer Shuts Down During Full Virus Scan

My computer was working fine up until about 2-3 months ago when it started freezing while I was playing Civilization 5. I figured it was just a mod conflict and decided to try playing a different game just to be sure. CKII also froze occasionally but worked most of the time. When I uninstalled Civ, everything worked fine again. I decided to re-install it last week and see if it would work without mods. It still crashed so I though it might be a virus. During every full system scan I ran, Windows Defender turned the computer off. It was like someone flipped a switch and turned off the power. When I rebooted, everything seemed to work fine but my internet was always a little off. I had to remove my wireless adapter and reinsert it to get my computer to connect to the internet. I was thinking it might be an overheating problem so I played Rome II for a bit (no turning off) until I fought a battle at which point it turned off. It seemed as though overheating due to dust might be a problem so I opened up my desktop and vacuumed out most of the dust and used compressed air to get the rest (there wasn’t much to get). I loaded Civ again and within 15 minutes it turned off.

At this point I thought it was just a really bad virus, so I downloaded Malewarebytes as suggested on one of these forums and ran it. It found no errors, but every time I ran a full system scan in Windows Defender, my computer still turned off. I installed Norton and my computer crashed while trying to install it. When I booted up my computer again Norton thought it might be a virus and suggested their Power Eraser utility. Power Eraser found nothing and running a full system scan through Norton also made my computer turn off. Due to some longstanding problems with Windows 7 since I downgraded from Windows 8 (Moving from the password screen to my desktop during the bootup took over 30 seconds) I decided to re-install Windows 7 from scratch. Everything went well, all drivers were brought up to date and I installed Norton. I made sure there were no other security programs installed and ran a full system scan. The computer turned off. Every time it crashed while scanning Windows/SoftwareDistribution/Download so I scanned for corrupted files with windows command prompt. Nothing came up.

So I began thinking it was a hardware problem and ran chkdsk with the command prompt. It showed no errors and Norton still turned off my computer. I redownloaded Steam and installed some games to check whether they caused some problems. I also ran chkdsk but this time also had it «Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors». I ran a full system scan and for the first time it made it all the way through. I thought I had solved the problem but the next day I decided to run a full system scan to check and sure enough, my computer froze. The next time I ran it, my computer turned off again. I scanned for corrupted files, ran chkdsk, even installed superantispyware on a flash drive from a different computer as suggested in another post. I ran it on the problem computer, but it only found cookies (which I still let it handle). Norton still crashed during a full scan. I decided to see if Civilization would run on the new install, and it too made the computer shut off. I have no clue whether this is a hardware or software problem. I am out of ideas of how to fix this, can anybody help?
