This will not help me as I have to make changes on more then 600 PC’s remotely (non-domain environment) , I can only use .bat file to deploy wallpaper change/lock (using Kaspersky security center). Enabling logon script will require changes from GUI, cannot connect to each machine to make changes using GUI.

It should take effect on all profile/users on PC and restrict them from changing wallpaper.

That’s why wanted to use below key but its not taking effect.

I don’t know about that. I think it works like this:

When a user is created their profile is created in the registry and part of that profile are the settings copied from the default values in local machine — including at least parts of the policies section if there is one. That would be default values and things.

Now that user has a profile that belongs to them and in you make changes in the current user profile they will work.

If you go back and make changes in local machine policies some of them will not affect current users who already have a profile and their own policies section in their profile (current user).

You can do this as a test to verify:

If you have already made your desired policy adjustments to local machine and they are not working for current users, make a new user and see how the policy settings look for the new user and I think they will match the local machine settings.

Same desktop image for all users

Is there away in windows 7 to set the background for all users to the same image as the administrator?

Be sure to have the wallpaper that you want to be displayed for all users saved in either one of the C:\Users\Public folders, or in the C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper system folder.

If you save the wallpaper in one of your user account’s C:\Users\(user-name) folders, then the other users will not have access permission to see it and will only see a blank wallpaper instead.

Windows wallpaper all users

Question

I´m trying to change default wallpaper to our organization style. I don´t want to use GPOs for that. Commands are run during Task Sequence, cmd or powershell.

I tried few things already;

1. REG ADD «HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System» /V Wallpaper /T REG_SZ /F /D «C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper\Windows\backgroundDefault.jpg»

— will not work because the hive is user based. Will only apply to the current user.

2. Replace img0 file with our own img0.jpg into C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper\Windows\img0.jpg

— replacement okay, but still it uses dark blue theme from somewhere.

For us, this is handled in the login script. So, we allow Windows to do whatever it wants during profile creation and then put our own wallpaper in place afterwards. This still leaves the user free to change it if they want.

You might also be able to do this via changes to the default user profile, but we haven’t tried that for desktop wallpaper.

You might also be able to do this via changes to the default user profile, but we haven’t tried that for desktop wallpaper.

Our scripts are a bit complicated, and we also generate the wallpaper programmatically (at the current screen res), but what we do is basically this:

  1. Create the jpg, and store it in the user’s profile somewhere.
  2. Set the Wallpaper key in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop to point to the full path to the file.
  3. Use the SystemParametersInfo function to set the wallpaper in the current session (Setting the registry key doesn’t affect the current session).

Our stuff is a bit specific to our environment (as it includes generating the jpg on the fly), but there are command line tools for doing the same kind of thing in a login script: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/matthew_van_eerde/archive/2012/10/10/changing-the-desktop-wallpaper-using-idesktopwallpaper.aspx

The one downside is that the user will see the default wallpaper briefly before the script replaces it.

Could you share the full solution with us, please? All the command lines etc.

It seems, that in Windows 10 this works differently as in Windows 7, because none of Winwos 7 — instructions apply to Win10.

I don´t want to use Group Policy or Preferences, I´m trying to avoid domain releations here, because the solution needs to be multiplied.

Force same wallpaper for all users in Windows 7

If you are an administrator of a Windows 7 based computer, then you can force same desktop wallpaper of your choice for all users. The users should be standard users and should not have administrator rights or they would be able to change the desktop wallpaper back. Here is how :

  1. Press the key combination Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog. Type gpedit.msc in the Run dialog and press Enter.
  2. In the Group Policy Editor, select in the left side tree view : User Configuration → Administrative Templates → Desktop → Desktop.
  3. In the right side, find a value Desktop Wallpaper. Double click on it to edit it.

In the Desktop Wallpaper settings window, select Enabled on the top-left. Type in the full name of the wallpaper file. The wallpaper file should be either JPEG or BMP file. You can select the wallpaper style from the dropdown list.

  • Then click on the OK button to save the chages

Now all the users on your computer will have the same desktop wallpaper and they will not be able to change the wallpaper or the wallpaper image file.

Windows 7 is an operating system released by Microsoft in 2009. It is the successor of Windows Vista. Whereas Vista was a critical and commercial failure to a certain extent, 7 was received more positively. It would be followed by Windows 8 in 2012.

    Wallpapers [ edit | edit source ]

For Windows 7’s wallpapers, Microsoft continued to rely on rights managed images from Getty Images and Corbis, as with previous versions. However, they also licensed images from other sources, such as SIME/4Corners Images, Photolibrary, and individual photographers’ PhotoShelters. While 7 continues the tradition of using photography, two new themes consisting of illustrations were added, to give it more personality. The illustrators were found through agency 72 and Sunny. [1] They also worked with photographer Will Austin, who assisted Microsoft with selecting six wallpapers from his stock collection, as they wanted a local Seattle flavor in 7’s themes. [2] [3]

While Vista included a set of 16:10 widescreen wallpapers, this is also the first Windows version where all of the wallpapers are 1920×1200, as widescreen displays were more widespread by 2009.

The default wallpaper is img0, created by Chuck Anderson and Erik Attkisson. Whereas XP and Vista Starter editions have unique wallpaper sets, 7 only has one wallpaper for its Starter edition, which is an edited version of its default wallpaper.

    Regional [ edit | edit source ]

Windows 7 features regional themes for 20 countries, similar to XP Starter Edition featuring 3-6 wallpapers for each country. The team behind these themes licensed images from a wide range of stock photo agencies, including Getty Images, Corbis, SIME/4Corners Images, Masterfile, age fotostock and JupiterImages (which was acquired by Getty during 7’s development). Jennifer Shepherd also hosted a worldwide photo contest where Microsoft employees worldwide were able to submit photos that represent their country. Employees of each country voted on the best wallpapers for their theme, including both stock photos and winning images from the contest. [4]

As well as built-in themes for each of the 20 countries, the team also produced downloadable themes of the same countries that were available from Microsoft’s site after 7 was released. The team produced a total of 40 themes, two for each country. 20 of these are included in 7, while the other 20 were available for download as soon as 7 was released. From 7 onwards, themes have the wallpapers set as a slideshow, while XP-era themes had one default wallpaper often with a few extra options.

Right now this page will only list the built-in ones, but it is possible that the downloadable ones will be included in the future.
